    P-Line Floroclear is a solid budget friendly line. I’ve used it for years and I have a lot of confidence in it. I’ve also learned that it is equally important to tie good knots and retie your lures every so often because of abrasion. Tight lines y’all!!!

    • @vansaukam799
      @vansaukam799 Рік тому +2

      Also, try Izorline XXX and Gamma Polyflex in like diameters, same as Sufix Elite. These lines will compare well with Floroclear price and performance wise, and offer some other advantages.

    • @tagg946
      @tagg946 Рік тому +3

      I use it for heavier line, like 17-20lb+, but it’s abrasion resistance is terrible with lighter line sizes compared to other brands like sunline and seagar. I would strongly suggest not using any light line that they make. It will shred on wood and your connection knots will fail quicker. Seagar and sunline can fish through wood all day without a scratch, but I’ve frayed p-line just sinching a uni knot down….

    • @vansaukam799

      @@tagg946 - yep, for me Floroclear is for trout and panfish in open water areas. PLine CXX while not a fluoro, is as tough and strong as any line out there, aside some fluoro having a tougher/harder outer shell and resisting abrasion better.

    As a bank angler, I’ll spend the money on lines I’m using for pitching or short casts. I use a backing and then will put on the premium line because even if I snag, break off I barley have any line out so the premium line will last longer. Now when it comes to long casts or treble baits I’ll go to a budget line because snags from the bank are tougher to get back. So I’ll go through line quicker and will be changing lines up a lot sooner than my pitching rod.

    Berkley fluoroshield is a great co polymer. At the beginning of the year I caught a 16lbs Buffalo on 12lbs line. When I got it in I checked the line and it was nicked so bad. It was nicked in 7 different places, and It still held up to a big heavy powerful fish like a Buffalo.

    These are great. I especially love the line ones. My hookup to land ratio has improved watching you guys, due to line only no other equipment changes.
    The one line you mentioned I have had a bad experience with is Maxcuratro. It would break considerably more than regular PowerPro or KastPro.
    Maxcuratro reminded me of Spider Wire with breakage issues. BTW, SpiderWire was the first braid I tried, and last time for Spider Wire. I'm not sure why, but I don't have that problem with regular PowerPro, KastPro, or Seagar Smack Down braided lines. I re-tie religiously, too. I use the Palomar or San Diego Jam knot depending on Lure.
    I'm currently using Seagar Smack Down Hi-Vis Braid, KastKing Kastpro braid, Seagar Inviz-X FC, Daiwa Samaria FC, and Berkley Big Game Mono. I try to support my local tackle shop that does reel service & repair. He keeps the bulk spools.
    Thanks again for these tips 🍺🎣

    One of the most underrated braided lines is P-Line TCB braid. It has a teflon coating for additional abrasion resistance, it barely loses any color, and it is hydrophobic, meaning it does not absorb water making it great for ice fishing too. I used it almost exclusively last season and had 0 breaks.

    This year, I purchased a Kastking Zephyr BFS baitcaster to throw some smaller lures ( small bass in Northern Illinois, so, small lures) and I paired it with a co-polymer 6 lb test line. Now, I cant totally blame the line, but, the reel was letting any loops on the spool get between the spool and inner side plate, and damaging it to the point where it broke a few times ( I returned the reel) but, the line seemed to have less stretch than the same weight mono and held a knot well, so I can't criticize it too much. I went back to throwing the same lures on a 1000 series spinning reel with 8 to 10 lb braid ( I use a few different brands) but I wish the BFS reel was designed better. I do use a lot of braid to fluoro for bottom baits, and I appreciate the lack of stretch in both of them.

      Daiwa J-braid 8x 20-50lbs straight braid no leaders for baitcasters.
      Works fine for me in all environments from clear creeks/rivers/lakes to black water.
      With all braid you just have to put up with line twisting around the tip of your rod constantly, inline swivels help but I hate having to use extra gear.
      Lately I started using non swivel snap clips for faster lure changes without having to retie constantly, loving it so far!
      I only use 4 poles.

      Two piece 6.6' medium fast 2500 Daiwa LT reel/rod combo, 20lb 8x J-braid
      I use these 2 rods when wading in rivers and creeks, with the 2 piece strapped to my backpack most of the time.

      7' medium heavy fast baitcaster abu garcia promax/vengeance rod combo, 20lb 8x J-braid
      7 medium heavy bass proshops rod with Daiwa ct100, 30lb 8x J-Braid

    • @Michdave700
      @Michdave700 Рік тому +1

      It’s so variable by reel. I use a line counter on the main line to home in on how much backing will give me the main line length to fill the spool to the level I want while also providing the casting distance plus a margin. Start with a lot of backing, tie on the main line, load the spool to the level you want and check the yardage of main line you just put on, without cutting the new main line. If you didn’t add the yardage you want, wind the main line back onto its spool by whatever method you have, and remove more backing. It’s a PIA, but once you’re set up on that reel you can really economize on how many loads you get out of each spool. But I’d love to know a better way to dial it in, especially with loading braid over mono backing!

      Alot of the guys fishing the great barrier reef won't use floro, mono works better for shock leader. I’d rather they have the 20 percent off around Thanksgiving and then do the 12 days of Christmas sale. I feel like I was able to get more stuff on sale the old way. With this new sale if I have a lot of bills to pay a certain week, I just miss the sale for that week. I’ve already missed one and I might have to miss the fishing line sale this week too.

      You also miss out on free shipping with this new sale because you don’t need $50 worth of one item. I need new line but by the time I pay shipping, I might as well buy in a local shop.

    What is the different between fluorocarbon line and fluorocarbon shock leader? For the price point, I’ve seen that fluorocarbon line is much cheaper than the fluorocarbon shock leader. Thanks

    Probably a stupid question, but if I am running braid and have a heavy/extra fast rod and use mono as a leader,-would that in essence slow it down closer to a fast action since mono stretches?

    I want to pick up fishing again. I noticed a lot has changed since the 90 with lines.... I want to respool my old reels with new lines, but line specs are so different now.... let's take an example... reel speced for 0.3mm 180m 8lb to 0.4mm 100m 15lbs , but if I look at braided line 0.3mm, braided line is alike a 22kg line nowadays, and even a 0.14 line is still something like 6.8kg but I guess you would need like 300+ meters of the stuff to fill a spool.... I am so confused.

    Good base class...while I know it's not really possible to list all of the available brands/models within their lineup - you are missing mono/copolymer lines from major players like PLine,Yozuri, Sunline, Gamma...
    Braid whether fused, extruded, multi-strand, is endless. Specialty lines from YGK and Daiwa Samurai are missing from your list. Lesser known lines like Tuf-line, Phenix Rods, PLine, Spro, are also very good lines.
    Fluoro is the same, there is Daiwa's new fluoro, Yozuri's T7, Gamma, Tatsu, PLine, Trilene...
    In the end, can't cover it all, but it would be good to see more than just PP, Sunline, Sufix, Maxima on the list.
    BTW... thanks for "flashing" da Daiwa Steez CT. ;-)
    Excellent base class on lines, thanks Tim!

    What are your thoughts on the P5 Mark 56?

  • @syncobandsma2682
    @syncobandsma2682 2 місяці тому

    Tim, there're few things that you're saying that are not true. And I bet you haven't tested them yourself 😊.
    Firstly, fluorocarbon is also a monofilament.
    Also, nylon doesn't float, it sinks but just not as quick as fluorocarbon.
    Nylon is just as invisible/visible under water as fluorocarbon. It has to do with the surface of the material that makes it visible (round and shiny)
    Nylon is superior in abrasion resistant to fluorocarbon.
    Nylon keeps it's knot strength after being under stress (fighting a fish, stuck at the bottom), where fluorocarbon can lose up to 20% .
    Fluorocarbon leader line and regular fluorocarbon are exactly the same, just far more expensive.
    Btw, I love your channel 😉

    Does 20lb braid bind into itself on a bait caster?

    • @Internutt2023
      @Internutt2023 Рік тому

      I use 20 and 30LB braid, even 50 on one Shimano for my umbrella rig, on a few baitcasters, mostly for larger jigs, and I only have one reel with braid that seems to bind the line on a cast, so I will blame the reel more than the line. One good thing is, unlike mono, the braid usually doesn't snap when that happens.

  • @lightningmusky5286
    @lightningmusky5286 Рік тому

    Mostly fish straight fluoro and second braid. Connection knots are just another place of potential failure. Can’t stand power pro , had 50 lb snap way too often. Lots of better braids out there

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  Рік тому +1

      That would depend entirely on the specific lines in question. They can be formulated many different ways. For example, we use stretchy fluorocarbon as leader material but would not use it as a mainline, except for select crankbait applications.

    I use big game for everything and I stopped breaking fish off and I feel the bites fine. 15 lb-20 lb for heavy cover. 12 for moving stuff. 8 for finesse or Jerkbaits. Fluorocarbon is also horrible for the environment.
    I change my line out a lot regardless of what line I'm using. I save piles of cash for fancy baits and rods and reels by not using fluorocarbon.
    Learning to detect bites is a skill and line type has always had very little to do with it. 😎😎😎
