After 10 Phals, I picked up my 1st Cambria. Funnily enough, the smooth colour without spots was precisely the reason it stood out to me. Lots of brown-orange flowers on a tall branched spike, it looks like a tree in late autumn.

It doesn't bother me if an orchid has a special or not special name. I love learning about them and enjoying their beauty and habits! I like learning about the names too but I don't mind having noids and cambrias. Their flowers are still beautiful ❤️

@@Grow_Up_Man55 also, if you lose a noid it can be impossible to replace so in a way, they are more special. I have lost some old noids that I am sure I will never find again. Nice to have a proper, recognised name and everything but also nice to find a beautiful noid.

@@juliashearer7842 True - and many older hybrids are no longer being produced - so their exact parentage has been lost forever so they can be quite rare.

Good job covering the Cambria orchids. I'm not a snob and I like them. I don't do well with phals though, my house goes much above and below the range you mentioned and they don't like it (I have 3). I have found that the bush type of fuchsia are much hardier. I have a standard banana (I just gave away the baby it produced this week) but I much prefer the color and shape of yours.

Thanks Bonnie. I'm with you on phals - they're really 'easy' if you have a reliable temperature range which most UK households do, which is why they're so popular over here. My greenhouse fluctuates too much and although they do OK, they don't really thrive. The Ensete is great isn't it - just a shame I had to chop off all those lovely leaves!

Hi Geoff! Enjoyed your video. I think the Cambrias are beautiful! I love the patterns and spots! They are very interesting to look at. They are not common where I am. The phal is the only thing I could call common or even available locally. Yours is very beautiful and seems to be a good grower for you! Your Sharry Baby is looking quite lovely! There greenhouse is looking quite lush as well.
I hope all is well with you and your family! Take care!😊

Glad you enjoyed it Beverly (that's your name isn't it?!). It's nice to have something that isn't too temperamental for once. 😀

"what the heck is a Cambria orchid"
that's easy. It is a made up trade name to market any Oncidium/intergeneric because labeling what they really are is suuuuper hard. The first intergeneric created by Vuylsteke was actually called Vuylstekeara Cambria Plush and, for whatever reason, that Cambria name got adopted by commercial growers. Yours is, if I'm not mistaken, Peggy Ruth Carpenter
So, Sweet Fragrance doesn't have a strong chocolate fragrance. It does have a strong fragrance but I think you'll find it smells more like sweet vanilla than chocolate.
Drench the Brugs with a mix of a systemic insecticide and epsom salts, that should help keep the bugs away. You could also spray it weekly with insecticidal soap _or_ a mix of 30 ml mineral oil into 1 l water with 2 drops of dish soap.

It certainly looks like Peggy Ruth Carpenter. I see that orchid is also labelled as 'Beallara'. I have a Beallara - which I think I've also seen labelled as Alicera if I'm not mistaken. I tried systemics on Brugmansia and although it killed off the mites it's one of those plants that reacts badly to systemics - so all the leaves curled up and it looked very sickly following on from that. I'll have to give the soap a go - and I've always got the neem oil to fall back on.

@@Grow_Up_Man55 Yes, Beallara was the old name before reclassification, it is now Aliceara but, believe me, nobody sells it as Aliceara it is still Beallara and probably always will be. Only matters if you've got a really nice plant and want to enter it in a show.

Ive got 2 spikes on Oncidium Aka Baby Raspberry Chocolate. Thats a cross between Oncid. Jimbo x Oncid Sharry Baby. Can't wait to see the blooms and find out just how fragrant it is. It will be a while yet as the spikes have quite a bit of growing to do if the photos I've seen are representative of how tall the spikes get.
