I love that you said some orchids have different personalities than others! I am a beginner to orchid collecting (only 6 plants in 4 types), but after a move a few years ago almost killed all my phals (RIP mini), I have noticed they are totally exhibiting different behavior as they recover. One is so distinctive she gave herself a name- Gemini of the split air root. I think I'll cry if that root ever gets broken. I came to this video for info on caring for my new clearance rack Beallara/Aliceara Tropic Lily 'Hilo Space Ship.' Your videos are the best- thanks for making orchid collecting an understandable hobby for me! Books were fairly useless, but I get it now.
Hello, I adore your content and I’m sure my orchids do, too as a result. I was thinking something you could do for a video series is show all the orchids that bloom a certain color. And go through the rainbow? I am on the hunt for a true RED orchid and I’ve seen a couple in your videos. But would love to to see all the orchids that bloom similar colors.
I bought a Marfitch 'Howard's Dream' that somebody had given up on. I'm growing it in leca, wet, with Cattleya light levels. It grows like a weed and is spiking after just one year of growth. The previous owner hadn't had a spike in five growth cycles.
One reason I love orchids is that they seem like the most animalistic of all the flowering plants except the carnivorous plants, of course. They really do seem to have personalities!
I have a no name one that I picked up at the grocery store 3 years ago and it hasn't bloomed again for me but it has grown out of 2 pots and needs a new one again. It's been so long I can't remember what it looks like other than it was in autumn colours.
Lovely Aliceara’s! I don’t have one as they are rare in my country, but I do love them! Well, I have a Bratonia which counts really as it’s Brassia x Miltonia, right!? I’ve used seaweed once every 4-6 weeks for a year now and have had no deformity issues in any of my blooms. I use a TDS meter and don’t give more than 50ppm. I thought it seemed to be helping root growth, but it’s hard to tell. But it doesn’t appear to have done any harm at least... And I think the Marden Fitch might be a less vigorous grower, particularly in warm climates, because it has quite a dose of Odontoglossum in it.
It has a lot of cool-cold growing Odontoglossum in it - they are known to be more fussy than standard Oncidiums. More like Miltoniopsis in care needs than Miltonias or Brassias.
Hi Danny. Your Aliceara is a vigorous grower. Perhaps mixture with bark and high ratio of moss and microfiber to soak off the bottom of liner ? See a new thumbnail for your BD? Happy and hope you party and party and party 🎉 🥳
Well I've now got a bunch of new Alicearas on my wishlist, thanks XD I recently 'lost' (still technically have it, but it's not looking good) my Miltonia Sunset to orange rot, the rhizome turned bright orange and the pseudobulbs went bad pretty quickly. I'm pretty sad about it, it was such a pretty plant, but idk if I'll get another one.
My Aliceara Sunday Best is growing nicely for me, it matured 3 new pseudobulbs since I bought it in February. But no flower spikes! If it’s already started more new growths, does that mean I won’t get flower spikes from the mature pseudobulbs?
hi hope you can reply to my comment, i bought an orchid at the market in very very cheap amount it was wrapped in coconut shell hanging and looks dehydrated so i bought it, but i really dont know if that was like the other orchid that attached to trees because it has a rounded body and the leaves look like cataleya orchid so i was very confused
I have never had an Alicera bloom in 3 years. I have tried several. I grow intermediate. What is your secret for blooms? I agree Howard’s Dream is quite finicky. It’s my oldest. Even my Miltoniopsis orchids bloom but not these. I also struggle with Brassias.
I have them under stronger grow lights starting 3 months ago. I’ll wait to see how they do by next Spring. Thanks for all the help! Some of them are in leca and the roots seem to stunt at the dry top layer. I’m going to try to keep them wetter i.e. keep a fuller reservoir.
“Some are really vigorous, and some really hate my face.” 😂 The Best.
Oh dear... I've fallen in love with the Hilo Gold...

Brilliant idea to talk about these hybrids, Danni. Love them! Maybe you can do the same for other hybrids, please. Thank you!
Beautiful orchids Danny 😘😘
What a gorgeous collection 😭😍 really beautiful.
That Patricia Mcally one or whatever, is soooooooooo beautiful! Those flowers!
They are splendid! And they are so positive in nature!
What a nice collection
They are beautiful. Just an FYI, it is Hilo, like the pronunciation of the city on the big island of Hawaii. "He-lo"

When I saw Diana Dunn Gothic on your channel I knew I must get it. I finally found it at Wichmann. Thank you ☺

Really beautiful. I need to have some.
I’ve got a very vigorous growing Howard’s Dream with huge flower spike!
Love Oncidiums they grow like weeds where I live in Queensland Australia

I have a Marfitch Howard's Dream. I'm so glad that maybe it's not me why it grows so slowly!
Same for me, not a vigorous grower at all!
It has a lot of cool-cold growing Odontoglossum in it - they are known to be more fussy than standard Oncidiums. More like Miltoniopsis in care needs than Miltonias or Brassias.
EricaKhatwah thank you!
Orchid Garden you’re welcome!
@@duma227 That's helpful! I will read up and adjust accordingly.

Peter Komp is actually a Miltonidium because one of the parents is Oncidium schroederianum

My Howard’s dream has been struggling, I keep hoping it’ll have a new growth but no luck so far
God I hate when my orchids hate my face! Lol
Aliceara Marfitch, I have a love and hate for this orchids, every year I buy it to celebrate 🎉 my hobby for orchids but I can’t see get it😭
I think the Miltonia at the end of the video is a hybrid Honolulu x binotii. I have a very similar one
I have a beallara marfitch it's super finicky it's the only beallara I had issues with
My Phalaenopsis is growing with all the root hanging over what I should I do

You had a Masai Red. You don’t have it anymore?
I have never had an Alicera bloom in 3 years. I have tried several. I grow intermediate. What is your secret for blooms? I agree Howard’s Dream is quite finicky. It’s my oldest. Even my Miltoniopsis orchids bloom but not these. I also struggle with Brassias.
I had to add a bright grow light on mine. Then they started blooming
They need more light than the usual Oncidium hybrids. Increase the light.Good luck!
Thanks!

I've had inflorescence deformities when using seaweed extract in watering, but I haven't had any issues yet while using it as a spray :)
Why do you call some orchids as " She " and some as "He"? What is the criteria? Genuine question
Hi, just latin language 😂 in my language nouns have genders, I'm too used to it 😉
@@MissOrchidGirl wow Thanks a lot for the reply
I do the same thing. I’m native English speaker, and I think I just “assign” the pronouns to my plants randomly in the moment I’m talking about them.
