How to Sing in MIX VOICE by Controlling Your Nose Hole
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Hi everyone!
Controlling your nasal port by raising and lowering the soft palate is a really good way to learn how to sing in a more thinned out coordination (the vocal folds are stretched more than they could be), or what some people call a "mix".
I think nasality is just a piece of the puzzle, and a good training device for mix voice because it will prevent singers from belting or "pulling up" there lower voice (ei. chest dragging).
Nasality is certainly not required, but a good tool to have at your disposal.

You're like them humble youtubers who reveal all the secrets and doesn't care about money. Love you man!
Aw, that's nice I really hope more and more people subscribe to you bro.
I've tried that thing where you raise your soft palate and lower it, can you still get head resonance even with the soft palate raised? (no nasal resonance) Because I don't want my voice to sound too nasal but not to muddy either, if you get what I mean.
A few weaks ago something helped me to access flageolet tension in my mixed voice and that was by pinching my nose and I tried to sing without the sound coming from my nose but out of the mouth, it really helped me to sing higher but now it doesn't work as good anymore haha.
Like the last time I tried to sing with the sound coming out of my nose, and I could sing effortlessly, now it doesn't work anymore haha.
Yay, thanks man, I hope you do make more videos like this.
@@jerichodunham8491 im sorry singin ofc require frontal placement so your voice doesnt get tired easily plus yes frontal placement is nasal resonance is okay to have nasal tone

this mix voice series gonna be the best series on vocal teaching ever on youtube. Great work, man.

This didn't feel like 14 minutes at all, it was so informative ! Keep them coming ! :)
Shorter is always better
You’re an undescovered brilliance. I’ve been toiling for over a decade to sing. I’m a low baritone and anything above an F was strained nasally and ugly… I just hit an A4 with rasp and strong support and perfectly on pitch.
Your advice helped me achieve this… I’m so thankful I found you. Keep on this track, you found your calling very early in life.
Just as an encouragement, this series isn't just informative, but it is really working!! I've genuinely been improving my mix so much. Keep it up!
This literally just helped me get into mixed voice after months of trouble... literally thank you for this video 🙏🏻!!
I am a singer and working on my vocal to get better for long long time.. I had physical 3 vocal teachers working face to face in different times, also i dont know the number of the videos i had watched about high notes &vocal pitches (chest, mix, head whatever) but this video is something else. Ok almost all are the things you are telling are the things i ve been told and learnt, but i havent seen such a clear expression about all the details with a great simplicity, thank you very much you are an excellent teacher!!
The overdrive-to-nasal WORKED PERFECTLY. I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS and ~~FINALLY~~ I FOUND MIX! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The exercise to control the soft palate is amazing ! I was usually told to yawn to raise it but it never worked for me, at least not as precisely than with your advices, it's amazing ! Thanks a lot, you are definitely becoming my YT reference for vocal technique !
As usual, this guy shares so many things without making them complicated!! AWESOME GREG!
THANKS TO YOU I WAS ABLE TO FIND MY MIX VOICE!!
I'm totally looking up to this series 😊
This is the best and most understandable mixed voice tutorial I have ever watched so far!
I really, really appreciate you doing the whole exercise with us. I don’t watch so many people because they don’t do that.
It’s not to be mean, I just can’t do it when I have to do it with piano only. I need to hear what the person sounds like to do it right for awhile.
DUUUUUDE! IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOR SO LONG AND THIS MADE IT CLICK AHHGAHGGHGG!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
it literally took me a year to finally get this. listen greg you are absolutely spot on about the sensations here. but when i could target and isolate that velum. i instantly remembered this video. kewl!
Have you studied in the area of speech pathology? You are speaking my language! I’m a speech and language pathologist and would love to be a vocal coach some day, however, still and will always be learning myself. Your tips are good nuggets! I’m loving the anatomy, acoustic physics, and physiological aspects you incorporate into your explanations. 👏🏻🙌🏻
You seriously are doing all the things I do in my car on my way to and back from work 😆. Keep doing this! You’re doing great!
this was amazing, I've been taking singing classes for 2 years (different coaches) and this is the first time I finally understand this and how to actually control it, thanks so much! 😍😍😍
The most simple explanation I’ve found. Thank you
This IS AMAZING. I have been singing for years and this is just perfect!!!! Thank you
Wow this is a really good video. Not only can i feel my voice go into mix, but i also felt a further change around a#4. This has really helped me a lot!
That lecture saved my life That's amazing
It's a luxurious lecture. It's really hard to translate into Korean
This is so interesting! I speak brazilian portuguese. It's a language with lots of nasality and a lower and back placement. For us, the english language has a forward and upper placement and some kind of nasality. We need to raise our resonance in order to sing in english and we use that placement to sing Musical Theatre in our language (it helps a loooot!). But we can't use it very much or it would sound very fake in portuguese for our ears.
These two examples you gave in the video we say here in voice technique: voice in the nose and voice behind the nose.
The most explained mix voice I've ever watched!
Just want to say how incredibly helpful this video was. You explained it so well, from first showing the anatomy and then using different consonants as examples to help us get to understand what the difference should feel like. Thank you so much for this 🙏🏼
This video helped me with my high notes more than any other video! This was the trick for me. I have never heard it explained like this before. Thank you Gregory. I just got B flat effortlessly. One voice teacher always told me to sing "hooty" but that never really sunk in like this explanation did.
Yoo. This is a really good video. The nasality demonstration are top tier. Now I can go back to my favorite singers and listen for nasality on vocal phrases. Thank again for your amazing work.
king of all vocal coaches
loved the video really helpful and easy
i watched this video months ago and it didnt work out for me i couldnt do this
now im back to this and after i learned a lot about the voice i really understand what you’re saying and i actually succeed doing what you did really easily
so practice makes perfect
thank you so much
Proper practice & support makes better!!!!!!👍😊🎶
Ear plugs work amazingly well for feeling those vibrations and where they are coming from. Nose..chest..throat ..mask
Great stuff, man. I’ve been tracking the elusive white stag of mixed voice for a couple of years now, and your videos are some of the clearest glimpses I’ve gotten of the mythical beast.
What a fantastic lecture! Loved the explanations. Much needed for amateur singers or learners!
THIS IS INVALUABLE!!! thank you so much
This is the most helpful video I've found on UA-cam on the topic, thank you!
dudeeeee ure rly a lifesaver ive been struggling to find my mixed voice for the past few years but ur previous video on the magic trio made me was so good:(( i hope u get more recognition and subscribers man good job!!!
ive never commented on vids but u rly helped me so much 😭😭
Outstanding instruction! 👍🏽
omg you are awesome. you covered everything i wanted to know about, even the perceived change in pitch between nasal and non-nasal!
Guuuuuaaaa!!!!
What a great video, you took us step by step…
Thanks
this is the first video that has helped me find my mix
thank you
this is great I never heard anyone talk about this in my singing course, thanks
Hey bud this video has done wonders to help me advance in my singing voice keep up the excellent work
I can control my nasal port. I learned to do it on a Nuh. It's with airflow pressure. The right amount of air for nasal cavity which is very little and the right amount of air for mouth which is more.
just found this channel i’m in love. keep going on mate thanks for your video!
There are so many good teachers on UA-cam, but you my friend are ordain with an intuitive Ness for this mixed voice that is shocking. Thank you for furthering my development.
By the way, I know how to spell better than my talk to text
I tried this exercise today, and suddenly my chest voice and head voice connected smoothly!
I have been struggling with my unstable breathy chest voice and break between chest voice and head voice for years.
You saved my life…
Thank you sooooo much, Greg!
sorry for my poor English.
I’m Japanese^^
You'll be the reason if I could develop my mix someday! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
tok me so long to find a good video abojut this topic thank you bro
Awesome info!! 🔥
You changed my life with this. Deep thanks so much.
This is a result of which vowels you use. In the beginning the "controoool" with less nasality the ooooo sounds like aaaaaa, which is a less nasal vowel, which removes nasality.
Very very very helpful …. ! Will be following you with interest from now on!
What a great channel I just discovered here today! Really usefull tips for mixed voice indeed. I am a beginner and my goal is to sing higher notes like Warren Zeiders did in his cover of Outskirts of Heaven, I follow you excellent tutorial many thanks :)
Wow…Great advice …you are one heck of a singer and vocal teacher. 🙏👏 ❤
You are absolutely incredible, man. The way you explain things is so intelligent and efficient. I can't believe you started singing just a few years ago. Your singing journey video was very inspiring.
I really enjoyed this one. Very nice guidelines, good ideas to play around and really well put in a non-pushy way.
You are fantastic you make it soooo east to understand
You deserve more subscribers bro.
I Just want to say that G4 is completly different note if you are a bass, a baryton or a tenor. As a baryton myself, it is the beginning of troubles but it is reachable note in mixed voice but i can imagine it must sound really to reach for a bass and easy for tenor. Anyway thanks for this small course and exercices, I ll try them !
Iny book a closed nasal pathway is considered nasal.. Like when you are sick.. Good airflow thru the nose and a more bright projecting sound is not nasal sounding. But it's just a different way of looking at it. So the air has to travel thru the nose that is important it seems.. To help with mix
Wow- ok this is one of the best tricks I've ever heard/seen on youtube. You're such a great teacher! Thanks for putting these out, definitely subscribed.
this would explain what I have found in the singing of Ozzy and Bon Scott vs Tony Martin or Paul Rodgers
The Ahhh vowel goes up F4 to Bb4 then the "It" vowel for B4, the " Uhh" up to Eb5
then "Oo"
but if you add the " IT' vowel early on Ab4 A and Bb4 you get that air cut to the nose, causing a resonant buzz in the mouth and forehead, I have heard singers say singing through your nose, but I think it means resonating in the nose, because you actually cut the air.
best video on mixed voice ever
Learning this from my vocal coach was a mess! It took, literally, weeks! I just couldn't get it for the longest time! And in less than a minute you explained perfectly (ELI5) Well done you!!
Man this was such a good break down. Thanks a lot :-)
I love the way you show how to transition from overdrive to mixed voice. I can vouch that it worked for me. I am also conscious of the twang involved.
Extremely well informed, helpful, and clear. Wish I had seen this 10 years ago. I had to learn the basics of what you cover in this video by years of trial and error. Mostly error:))):(( thank you:)).
"You're a French guy, projecting." :)
Really good advice!
U teach very well even though ur real young. I'm sure u started from a very very young age n now u have alot of experiences. 🙂💙🙌
You just earned another subscriber! Wow, great stuff 🔥🔥🔥
LOVELY video. Nice job, and thank you.
Just found your channel, like right now. I am excited for you, will continue to watch your videos. Thanks for the valuable information!
@@StudioWestLessons One of the things I really struggled with when I started trying to teach myself to sing in 2016 were tips in regards to finding my voice and especially my voice-type/register. Giving tips to others in regards to being able to discover that for themselves would be a pretty good vide in my opinion and it'll save them from trying to sing EXACTLY like an artist in a song.
This video is your best one yet greg! Editing and content on point 🔥❤️
HEY THERE! I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO HEAR A TEACHING ON SCALENES AND THEIR ROLE IN SINGING. Apparently extremely important
Ok, this is actually amazing and extremely useful. Thank you!
Awesome video!! Hope you come out with more of these. Love this format of short and full of information.
Really helpful, finally I understand!
Since i've watched your magic trio.I suddenly hit high notes without straining my throat. After singing i felt that my nose was clogged,I also felt light headaches
I was wondering why my face and nose hurt a little instead of my throat then i saw this vid
When I watched that video today I was able to find my entire mix register but I am not able to sing in it as comfortably as chest or head. It’s very shaky because I never used my mix voice before. It’s amazing how fast that video helped! 😊
Mindblown 🤯
this is one of the best video for mix voice!

Hi Greg, thanks for your video! Please can you clarify whether we should use the open nasal port or closed nasal port for singing?
Personally I find your closed nasal port notes a lot better.. should we be aiming for this?
How the frick is your face and jaw and all that jazz so relaxed when you sing? Mine just WANT to join in if i leave them out.
You made it so easy to understand thank youuu
VERY informative! THANK YOU ❤
I love this channel
Good job of explanation

Your videos are the best I seen in this topics, so many stuff that really work instantly, I'm a fan of CVT system and is very good to have you knowledge about it. I'm receiving lessons from a Classical Teacher and I have some Doubts about where resonate the best for my voice, (you can do a video of that eventually?), I want to sing Rock and I don't have the lighter voice but I can Hit G4 in Chest with no problem. Thanks for your videos and keep doing this exelent work
Very interesting video and very well done.
Thanks Gregory 🙏 could you make vocal effects videos separately of all
Distortion, rattle ..... ..... ... please?
OMGGG this was so helpfulllll
Great video!! I follow you from Spain!! I think it would be great if you could do some videos talking about how to control/identify/master the CVT vocal modes!! Keep on doing these awesome vids!!! :)
Im definitely gonna practice this. At one point i was obssessed with raising my soft palate but looks lile the problem IS my constantly raised palate
Question: which do we want in mix? With or without nasal?
I have this question!
Thank you very much for this great video! Love your way of explaining really step by step!
What im still wandering is: do we want to have the port to the nose open or not? I understood from what you said that open is better and we want the mal sound. But I have to say that the sounds with a closed port to the nose sounded better to me. Maybe I misunderstood you or you want to get to somewhere else then after we know how to properly leave the port open?
I'd be thankful for your answer :)
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
Grato prf. Pelas dicas, show de bola, Deus abençoe 🙌🙏
