Ding-Dong
On her wedding day, Ethel is more interested in tennis tournaments. Dawn and Kim are bridesmaids, while Harry is the reluctant best man. He and Neil are having a hangover from the bachelor party. - Розваги
Classic 80s show. Opening shows Neil acting as someone with a raging hangover following a stag do. Would never ever get close to something like that featuring in a children’s show now.
I'm given to understand that they were semi-improvising around an outline script.
So a kids program opens up with a bloke who's got a hangover.. How times have changed.
I know right?! Just brilliant!
Feeling a bit fragile...classic...
Having been out on a stag do...😂
Neil Buchanan has never drank alcohol nor has he smoked.
Or acted
Jesus this brings bk sum memories waking up on a saturday morning as a kid running diwn stairs to watch this programme.
Doesn't it just!
Wow. This is a blast from the past. I used to think Sandy was an old lady in this. Ha ha. Now I am old, I can't believe how young she was in it.
First time I've seen this since the 1980's! It's a little underwhelming but still has it's charm. I'm sure there were more memorable shows though.
It's slightly obscure looking at it now, bit of a wierd vibe.. but us 80's kids were a hardy bunch, give us any old crap and we were quite happy...lol!
Oh my God, just seen the Sandwich quiz, thats why I used to watch this show!!! : )
Just normal saturday mornings to us guys
I'd forgotten the sandwich quiz till I saw this, and it all came flooding back to me. Classic!
Snap. I haven't seen this since the 80's. I was probably 6 years old. Simple times.
"Me and the lads were all out on the town till 5am, so as you can imagine were all a bit fragile this morning!"
Er.... No Mr Buchanan, its a Saturday morning kids TV in 1985, and im 7 years old waiting for you to play thundercats, so, no, I dont really have a clue about your Friday night piss up.
They were only drinking fizzy orange after all
That's really true, would not know what he was talking about
I nearly had an heART attack! 😊
ha ha ha i know! mad
Hilarious that there are so many references to adult themes like boozing and sex! How many times did they nudge, nudge, wink wink about the honeymoon - like kids at home would have a freaking clue! Funny to see Andrea Arnold as a rollerskating kiddies presenter. She's now an Oscar winning movie producer, who says she hated being front of camera and was terrified throughout.
Kids TV show starts by telling everyone you got hammered and now you're hanging out of your arse #keepingitreal
Well this was aimed at teenagers and you could get alcohol aged 15 in the 80s...
Well that explains the awful haircuts
I know! I though the same 🤣
LOL ! "I thought I had only to take her up the aisle!" More innuendos that would have been lost on kids, but are glaringly obvious when viewed as an adult !
Thank you for this! That amazingly downbeat and bitter Bucks Fizz interview is incredible.
It's crazy how you may not have seen or heard something for even 30 years, yet as soon as you do again, you know every single word of the song or names of the people in it...watching this again gives me vibes of seeing an old school friend or neighbour from your childhood...thanks for the upload! x
That's ok
Its 39 years almost 40 years ago!
Haven’t seen this in four decades! It’s brought back memories (largely ones of boredom and mild confusion)
Yeah, it was shite 😂
Glad you are enjoying, sorry to say that this is the only episode i have of Number 73, i bought this off eBay many years ago, in the days when stuff would turn up
Thank you so much for sharing
Ahh memories. I'd watch this every Saturday morning in the 80s.
God, this made me feel like it was a saturday morning way back then again.
Every single person I speak to does not remember this. I loved it!
How many have you asked??
Wow. I loved this show! It was so much fun! My first experience of sandy toxteeth!
Literally not seen this not thought of this since about 1986! Flippin Nora!
All I remember of this was the red door with yellow numerals / The girl on rollerskates and Sandi Togsvik
This brings back some old memories I thought I had forgotten about.
i used to really love this show when i was a kid, it seemed like they put more effort in that the usual going live type shows. All i really remember about it now though is the bit where she reads out the address to some post box in Maidstone Kent
Jesus Christ on crutches I remember this. Loved the introduction to the sandwhich quiz
I'd completely forgotten about until I saw Kate Copstick is on Radio 4 today. The song instantly came back to me! Happy days - some great mullets in there :0)
I met Kate Copstick once as a TV researcher. Vile creature who hates other women. She was reading a tabloid, and ranting about 'vindictive women' inventing their own rapes, and how most allegations were malicious.
I recently heard she's been working with child victims of sexual abuse for an overseas charity. Shocking. She's a misogynist who shouldn't be allowed within a mile of little girls!
I thought Kate Kopstick was on "On The Waterfront" on BBC1?
This was one of the very first shows that Neil Buchanan presented in the 25 years he was an television presenter for.
Apart from the hair he didn't change much!
Neil Buchanan of Art Attack thia show is slowly coming back to me now. Five Star love em.
3:20 all he has to do is take her up the what??????????
tom spud 😂😂😂😂
Lol
Exactly what i thought
Yes, that did sound a bit ominous 🤣
Did I hear that right. Take her up the ***?
Before social media destroyed the world, and You had to write your letters by hand. The good old days!
Get a life you sad whining nonce
I used to love this when I were a kid. I also worked next to where it was filmed in in early 2000's
When we were young! 😂😂😭😭
Na Noid No, it’s You and your heart so blue lol 💙
Just came back to watch this again for the nostalgia rush! I wish there was a way we could watch all the old Saturday morning shows like this again, but I'll bet the Beeb and ITV junked all the episodes.
Neil Buchanan there wondering why Sandi Toksvig would rather go and play tennis in her comfortable shoes than get excited about her upcoming wedding to a man
I never saw a more obvious lesbian in my life, bless her!
Wow brings back memories..I'm sorry to say Neil Buchanan was my childhood crush!..🙈
Oh God, the memories!!!
Love Sandi (Ethel in this) she's so funny! A big thank you for uploading. Happy memories.
16:26 Neil's got an "art attack" for you...
The only time Sandy Toxvig has ever shown her legs!
love this please put more your a star for doing these :)
That wd never happen now- 2 guys hungover after a late one. The alka selzer and Neils prairie oyster omg lol!!! The 80s were special!!
Khalid Aziz made a prairie oyster on "Bring in the New", TVS' first programme on 1st January 1982. But that was more of a news/meet the team programme, and this was aimed at children & young people.
"all I need to do is take her up the aisle" 🤣🤣🤣3:22
Oh the innuendos.....7.07 onwards. Do you think he ever came down from up there...🤣. Dont wanna look another party popper in the face again....hmmmmm
It seems that the Sandwich Quiz was an early version of Radio 4's News Quiz!
Fantastic memories, the quality of the guests!!
44:00 The little horse got too much petting. :s
Sandi Toksvig now hosts Fifteen to One and the Great British Baking Show and Neil Buchanan was the host of Finders Keepers, It's a Mystery and was also the host of CITV's Motormouth but was best known as the host of Art Attack that appeared in many countries around the world including Canada.
It was a very good show.
This is why kids used to play out rather than veg in front of the TV all day. Kids TV was crap.
There's something about they way they talk that screams out 80s 👍👍
Oh the 80's ☺
I sand that intro word perfect!
Do you think they'd talk about piss ups, hangovers and getting in at 5am on a modern kids show.
i have still got my 73 and 7T3 badges
I've got a Number 73 annual.
Swoon! King!!!!! Jim
Cold open on a kids TV show - man hungover af from a stag do... 80s were wild..(!) 😅
1985 Saturday morning Thurso Scotland. Take me back please.
Celebrity guests in order of appearance...
Junior
Five Star (the Pearson siblings Denise, Doris, Lorraine, Stedman and Delroy)
King (Paul King, Mick Roberts & Jim Lantsberry)
Jimmy Nail
Bucks Fizz (Bobby G, Mike Nolan & Cheryl Baker)
Matthew Kelly
The Redskins (Chris Dean, Martin Hewes, Paul Hookham, Kevin Robinson, Ray Carless & Trevor Edwards)
"SEE YOU IN FEBRUARY"
Only it was January, when Granada's _TX_ with Sue Robbie and Tony Slattery flopped.
Holly crap this was a kid's TV show LOL
7mins 37 its king! Jim (swoon) Tony and Paul xxx
Oh I do not remember this at all, I was only 3 though but I usually remember most programs from 85 onwards
It's strange to look back and see alcohol casually mentioned on children's shows. I remember the first episode of "Tucker's Luck" when he had to go and sign on after a night of underage drinking at the pub. You'd never get that shown on a kid's show at teatime these days.
09:07 - jimmy showcasing his huge vocal range here
Mullet count is off the charts...
I am sure i remember this episode from back then... i didnt watch it much, so anything i did see never made sense so i remembered it... i see why now as its abit... fragmented as programmed go.
Saturday morning tv was platinum back then
I was 14 when this was on only watched it because of sandi toksvig
Wow memories
Hold on....
I vaguely remember this TV prog as being the best thing ever in my youth. (On a par with TISWAS)
The theme tune, the art stuff, the funny 11 year old kids stuff..... It was my Saturday morning!!!
Now, thirty years on re-watching expecting nostalgia, the first seven minutes is.. IS my childhood. (Amongst others.)
Did No.73 prepare me for the hangover cure? Through a kids TV programme I found one. "Down in one." "Prairie Oyster"
Then Paul Young. Then Kim Goody going on about how 'fantastic' it looks. (Ooh err)
Then.. Jimmy fuckin Nail turns up!! "Aww bollocks man"
Tenuous link with champagne and orange juice to an interview (tricky) with Bucks Fizz> On their way up in the charts.....
Mathew Kelly with a double entendre,
Was that 5 Star?
Complicated paper stuff, followed by the address...... (You all know it. PO Box 73)
Redskins.. Reservation reference. Missed that one back then.
Don't remember them but they were damn fine good!
The Three Muscateers!!! Athos, Bathos and Pathos!!!
(Just Sandi showing off her acting skills... honest!)
Back to the 'sandcastle' bloke. (Awkward....)
5 Star reference?! Eurghh... Awkward prize thing....
(Getting a bit awkward now)
Massive horse/Tiny horse! Yay! Bit of a shitty pun, but the horse thing must mean it gets better...... honest.....
Actually, the little horse/big horse part was quite QI (ironically) But with roller skates?!
Poor Ethel. This whole episode is about her getting married. Makes more sense now.
All we need now is Stephen Fry.
Uh oh....Kelly.
Planned random banter. Looking back (or hind sight) is , er , interesting.
That style of interviewing did not work. (Baker did her best, bless her.)
Ok. Now I'm confused. Bride and bridesmaids come in. Kiss for the most marvelous bride Sandi and that there sexy lady (that has never been seen again) Kim Goody but no kiss for the roller skate lass. Wha? She deserves a hug at least!
Ahhh... Sandwich Quiz... ...and then listens to the questions. And also realises that the audience (which are all adults) in this game cheer and jeer Baker and Kelly. No children present. In a kids Saturday morning kids TV show. Answering questions. And making a sandwich.
Blue Lagoon and Bankruptcy.
Aaaand.... The end.
Get in a Mini,
Redskins.Welcome respite.
5 (Why are you so shit) Star doing the 'step clap' . Just......No.
End credits. Ethel in a proper red phone box.
The saga continues........
OMG longest comment ever, not reading.
yep better than swap shop or going live
This is.. literally the storyline of every Afrikaans sitcom in South Africa 🙆♂️🤣🙈
As I kid I had a crush on both Cheryl Baker and Sandi Toksvig..I wanted the looks of Cheryl but the brains, wit and humour of Sandi, would have been a perfect girlfriend for a young kid lol.
Kim was very nice and bubbly without being irritating.
Do you have the episode Thor performs on?
Thanks for posting!! Do you have the episode with the Caribbean limbo?
No, sorry, I only have this episode, another episode that is almost complete and a few clips, I have one other clip to upload, it's quite rare for this programme to turn up on video tape.
flippin eck Neil Buchanan there
To think Andrea Arnold got an oscar.
It's all 'friends and connections'. It's no coincidence that Rachel Shenton who won an Oscar in 2017 was a former regular on Hollyoaks.
Who else came here 'cos they need cheering up after watching Andrea Arnold's cow documentary? Oh, just me then.
Was this shown on ITV or Channel 4? I think it was Channel 4 but I'm not sure. Anyone remember a Saturday morning show that Channel 4 used to show called TX? TX was the best Saturday morning show but it only lasted for 1 or 2 years. No one I know remembers it. Frank Sidebottom used to appear on TX.
+trip2themoon Number 73 was shown on ITV, also TX was shown on ITV too.
+trip2themoon I remember TX! The presenters all seemed a bit posh - Sue Robbie, Alison Dowling and Tony Slattery! Knock Your Block Off! Watt the Devil cartoon inserts! The Axel F stylee theme tune!
nah back then ch4 didnt start till 4.pm and countdown! it was on itv on a saturday morning
15.51 king x
Always thought it was like some kind of squat
am i imagining it, or did they move out because thr floors were broken?
this would go out networked from 10:00am -11:20am which would allow individual regions to show things like ChiPs, The Champions, Return Of The Saint, The Adventurer, The New Avengers, The Protectors, Space 1999, The Baron, The Six Million Dollar Man, Tarzan, before the network gets back together for World Of Sport at 12:15pm and before this from 9:25am-10:00am Vicky The Viking, The Smurfs, Captain Scarlet, Fireball XL5, Mr T and My Little Pony after a couple of Disney or Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies Cartoons
Hey, I work with Rob Debenham who played Rob the Builder in series 7 and 8 of No.73. Is there any chance you have some clips of him in it? Would love to see him in action.
I would love to upload more if I had any, I only have 2 episodes of this series, and both have been uploaded. If I every get any more tapes with these on I will upload them here.
26:29 stick around for Sandi’s Australian accent
It never really was a kids' programme was it?
The band at the end who is it they sound familiar
Is that Gillian Taylforth ?
No Andrea Arnold, they were quite alike in looks and voice. She's now an Oscar winning movie director.
Fast forward 36 years, now Jay Aston is back with Bucks Fizz, or the Fizz as they’re now known, they’ve fallen out with Bobby Gee and have nothing more to do with him, and after all the publicity about the auditions and new girl, Shelley Preston has seemingly faded into obscurity.
9:04 It's wor Oz, and he's popped in after being hoyed off the Falklands.
"Any more cheek outta you an' you'll get six weeks on the Mike Read programme!"
I've still got a No.7"T"3 badge at home. From when they turned into a saloon from a western, for no particular reason.
Cheryl Baker's enjoyed a surprisingly long career in TV on a moderate talent. This interview was pretty mean spirited - they made it clear they'd fallen out with Jay Aston and she didn't have a right to reply. Not cool.
Sandi Toksvig marrying a man - yeah right, I never saw a more obvious lesbian in my life, God love her! Cheryl Baker moaning her fiance hadn't named the day. She should have taken the hint - they split, and she eventually married bass player Steve Stroud in 1992, having twin girls with him in '94.
I had totally forgotten about that crazy sandwich making quiz - it came back to me immediately, on seeing it 40 years later. Crazy show, can't say I remember it fondly but I do remember it, so it must have had its moments.
Surprised at the amount of jokey, adult references to hangovers, honeymoons etc. They were obviously playing to an adult audience too!
Sandy Toksvig , Neil Buchanan, etc
Never saw this in London
It was shown in London (LWT) from series 3 onwards. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._73
I remember it on LWT.
Paul king @39.00 x
Ive just watched Sandi Toksvig marry a man. What a day.
73 is the number of my house.
Fancy Cheryl humiliating her fiance on live telly! Who wouldn't love a Bucks Fizz 12" single as a wedding prezzie!
They said it ("You and Your Heart So Blue") was at number 43 in the charts. That would be its peak.
And they never did get married! She wed Steve Stroud in 1992 and had twin girls with him in '94.
54:30 - Margaret Thatcher!
Sandi Toksvig before she grew up.
I wonder if they are still married
03:20 😮please tell me I misheard him….😬🤦♂️
😂
leaves the s in a mess
Who came to see Banksy
He isn't Banksy, that's bollocks Buchanan put around to promote his own inferior art!
It’s like no one knows what the hell is going on! Bring back Tizwas !
neil buchanan pre art attack and sandi toksvig pre qi
