At the time I was too young to realise who Stanley Baxter was, great show and yes still say Mr Majeka whenever someones hair is sticking up! but has to be around people of my vintage (late 40s) to understand what I mean.
I remember watching this in P1, like 12 years ago and read all the books this is honestly my childhood even though it is so much older than me I still love this to this day and watching this brings that joy back that I’ve missed for years
Brings back great memories as a 82 born kid I was never really into wizards much I mean I loved Knightmare but there was something that drew me to mr majeika and the music gives me a nostalgia-gasm Series 1-(13 March-17 April 1988) Sunday 4:30pm ITV Christmas Special - Sun 25 December1988 1:15pm Series 2 (7 January-11 February 1989) Saturday 4:15pm Series 3 (3 January-14 February 1990) Wednesday 4:40pm Music composed by Chris Gunning
I remember an ex showing me an episode of this twelve years ago and I found it kinda amusing in a cheesy kids tv show kind of way. Tonight I randomly thought of it while looking up something else and found this episode and I really enjoyed it. I'm 28 now and now searching for the books :P
As someone who didn't watch it when young, the end theme isn't inherently sad & to me sounds either neutral or slightly positive, with only the merest hint of wistfulness possibly. I'm wondering if you're remembering your sadness at the show ending & having to wait another week to see another episode? ;-).
To Daniel Williamson - in the not - too - distant future, we'll all be feeling sad, when the wonderful Stanley Baxter dies! He's the same age as the Queen
Tried all ways to find this to show my 3 kids. I used to love this movie. I’m going to put this on our tv for the kids to watch, think I’m more excited than them 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t work out when it’s meant to be set. It was made in 1988 and there’s plenty of cars from the late 80s about. But then randomly there’s 1930s vehicles too.
I was a little too old to see this when first broadcast, but I do know the name & lovely to see La Baxter, even if it is without the obligatory ball gown. I think the production, even for kids TV, is a little lacking in visual flair & technical enginuity, the opening set looked cheap & the first few 'effects' were very basic. Looking at the TVS programme roster, they did have a reasonable output to the ITV network, even the very well made & highly regarded Dramarama, so perhaps this show just got the tail end of what was left in both the budget & staff pool? An absolute favourite, which I recently watched, is Worzel Gummidge, this was made by Southern TV, which lost its franchise to TVS, makers of Mr Majeika, so there was the talent in this region to make a great show. Other than nothing, what might this tell us about making a great or average show, 1 - Brilliant source material, it's the spark that sets you on the right path to success. 2 - Sparkling on screen talent, this will elevate the most mundane story. 3 - Talented production crew, making the best of very little. I know I'm not the target market for this show, but it appears that it's lacking in all 3 of these important areas.
Fantastic! Real childhood memories flooding back. Been looking for episodes for years, and it is as good as I remember, being 6 at the time. Thanks so much, really appreciate the vid :-)
Used to watch this as well as supergran, and I always imagined them getting together in a special episode or movie spin off, Too late now as they're both dead.
I says at end executive producer Nigel pickard is it same one who took over citv in 1998 who brought back in vision presenters when stephen and daniel took over
Haymish is a very naughty boy and he got what he deserves you know he shouldn't be so naughty that but anyway he should be a good boy instead of a naughty one.
Wankest tv show ever made. Like punishment watching this. Luckily, my mother though it was shit as well so I wasn't made to suffer it on account of the others she spawned.
What a find!!! I am 41 and even now if someone's hair is sticking up they have a ' Mr Majeka'.
We had the best years. 80s, 90s
Absolutely fantastic series. I still have them all.i transferred from video to DVD.i loved the theme tune too.
Such a great series, shame it never got a DVD release. I only missed 1 episode of this series when I recorded the repeats on the Children’s Channel.
98 glorious years. Happy birthday Stanley Baxter

And to this day, Stanley Baxter is still with us...

I watched this when it first came out in 1988 i was 8 or 9 years old. Such a cool show for kids back then
Wonderful to watch this again after so many years. My favourite character was Hamish. Wonderfully played by young Simeon Pearl.
I could have sworn that this programme first aired in 1981-2.

4:27 Oh don't worry sir! Everything is going to be wonderful sir! I can feel it in my wand!
Yes, is that a double entendre? With SB's other shows it defnitely would be.
Loved this show... still do... and the theme music is fantastic.
Aww i used to love this when I was a kid! Only just realised watching this now that the theme tune is based on Pachelbel's Canon in D.
I wouldn't agree with 'based on'. But he certainly cribbed a lot from it.
The wedding/funeral song? It doesn’t sound like it
this has literally send shivers down my spine! thanks for the memory!!
The best place by the fire was kept for The Storyteller!
How did I never know about this. I used to collect the books as a kid. Had no idea it was a TV show 😭
The show noone ever remembers.
Ahh, I used to love this. I see he's still alive ;)
And in 2021 he's still alive too! Yay
@@lulabelle82 it's 2022 now, and he's still around, though I hope not to put spells on US!

Just found this. Thanks for the upload 🤗brings back good childhood memories 🤗
That's ok, glad you enjoyed it.
Likewise. Can't believe it has been nearly 35 years since last seeing this. Where did the time go?

@dindunuffin? promise well I've never seen it before, and I'm 69. Lovely innocent entertainment for all generations - will never go out of date!
A nice harmless amusing story, for all ages!
Used to run home from school to watch this programme good old days in the 1980s.
Eh? It was on Sunday afternoon.
It was also on a Wednesday at 4.40pm in 1990
I was at middle school so early 90's and after school too.
23:21 The end credits theme is sad and moving. It makes you feel sad for Mr. Majeika.
I love how this music sends me back to a place in time when worrying for Majieka was the worst of my problem. I really do.

Anyone know what he is saying in the last line of his song (when he moves into the windmill)?
" ....(something something) I'm going to like it here."
11:19 - 11:43 Most hilarious 'voice acting' (added voice over for sure... some sort of attempt...)
My goodness that was painful to watch. The things I used to watch as a kid. ;)
Did not land in council ghetto estate but a leafy middle class area.
it s mrs.Bale from 'as time goes bye'' also i cant really see the likeness of stanley baxter to berie ecclestone, mr. shaw.
