Its simply amazing to see, this car hold its value so well. No matter how old it gets, the spirit of Shelby simply doesn't die
Look...people gathered together, and enjoying themselves like they should be. Great to see.
This was 7 years ago
Actually, it was only a couple of weeks ago. I was there (not on Super sat.) and it was awesome. There were people gathered, enjoying themselves. The cigars and beer and cars were all exactly as they were before and it was great!😊👍
@@wileecoyote5749
People were wearing masks 7 years ago? Not that it’s any less stupid to wear them now.
The first real Super Car !
A car like this isn't just an automobile. It's a work of art.
I hope whoever bought this car doesn't just park it forever... I feel like Carroll Shelby wanted cars to be driven, not parked.
you just know they will.
Yes, but Shelby was also a buisness man... I think he would be happy that his car is worth this much now, and frustrated that he didnt get that cash.
I said the same. Sad the wealthy buy these and then let them burn in wildfires for the insurance. 😪😪😪
Nobody spends 5 million on a one of one car and then makes it worth 1 million by fucking it up. The person who buys this kind of car and wants to drive buys a replica built the same way for a tiny fraction of the price, that is built better. Kirkham will gladly take your money.

This car belongs in a museum in my opinion, Some one now owns the Original Super Car.....
Shelby built this car for only 1 reason, it was meant to be driven 🔥🔥🔥
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!
🇬🇧🙏🤠Amen THE WORLD NEEDS TRUMP 🇺🇸 🌎
Actually the winning bidder got a bargain. It sold for at least 5 million in 2007. On a strict inflation basis it should have brought 6.4 million.
As I was scrolling the comments, I was thinking....I watched this car sell for 5.5 million In 07. You'd think with the passing of Carroll, it would be worth way more.
@@jurkjiggler5818 evidently Carroll was only worth so much, dead or alive. Is that too cynical?
I would say no. Apparently everyone there to bid felt the same way, or it would have gone for more. If it was one of Enzo's personal cars, would it have fetched more then 5 mil?
I was thinking the exact same thing...
Something is only worth what someone will pay for it period no exceptions… it’s funny I’ve owned pawn shops and always laughed when people would say that there product are selling for 2000$ on eBay lol I would say click on sold item come back to me .. as for what it sold for a 15 years ago you have to realize it very well
Could have been two billionaire coke heads that made a bundle just before the house market crashed that were throwing around money and 5.6 million meant nothing to that at the time
I love this car. If I won a 5 million dollar lottery, I'd buy this car .. just so I could live in a cardboard box.
You can’t race a house anyway.
Me too!
That's the way we gearheads think👍🏿👍🏿
I would update it. Remote Lambo doors and maybe Subaru WRX suspension with Lancer handling. Also some paddle shifters with Drift lock capabilities.
@Chris Williams Shelby believes in Custom not collectors item. Non driven is rude to Dreamers. 🤤
After watching this i am going to hop into my 1978 Cobra Mustang signed by Farah Fawcett and try.......try to peel out !!!
Should at least have waited for the '82 GT.
That car has NO issues with burnouts - even the best "stock" tires were a joke and trivially easy to overpower.
'83 was better, it got MUCH better tires (and still did easy burnouts, I ended up with the same tires eventually on my '82).
My favorite car in the world!
i actually had a stock intake for one of these with the dual 4 barrels air gapped for the 428, i didn’t know what i had till someone walked in my shop and said look up that part number and omg the price it was worth but i sold it cheap to a collector to put on his AC cobra
427, not 428, in 1965.
I don't think the real Cobras ever had a 428 (some of the GT500s I think did).
Lancasters, Spitfires, E-Types, Cobras and GT40's were some of the greatest things to come out of Britain.
The Britain GT40 was a failure, after 1964 the cars were redesigned and built in Dearborn, in 1966 they won Leman 1,2,3 and Ferrari didn't finish
Amazing Automotive History
WhistlinDiesel bought it, next, drives car off a cliff while packed with C-4.
Ya right after slapping a F it sticker on it...... if people knew it was him bidding they wouldn't even allow him near the building lmao
i wonder if that kid has anything nice 😆
man i would be so sad
🤣
Actually??
I cant believe it's a automatic
Never would of guessed that
Same
It was swapped , originally manual . As he grew older and became less capable and couldn't drive the car anymore. So they put an auto in it.
@@josecarbajak6190 The only two Super Snakes were both built with Automatic 3 speeds.
He knew back then what we all know now; automatics are superior in every way.
@@MikeL-FL
Give me a shelby that is stick vs you with the auto, I'll blow you away by revving higher with a power shift....
You'll see my tail lights fast...
All I can say here is WOW! That is some car!!!!
Shelby seemed to have a lot of personal cars, come up at recent auctions, the one that had an automatic and was red in colour, went to Legendary MotorCars, in Canada, where they restored it back to OEM, with a manual, and later re-sold for $5M+..There are more of his personal cars being sold elsewhere, it was like Burt Reynolds's personal"Bandit" selling at auctions, he had a stable full, I must have counted 5 that he had sold at various actions, same goes for Shelby, he had more than one...😎😎
I'll forever see this as automotive art but I'd also question it's stability at 190 MPH even in a straight line. I say that as an honest question that I'm happy to be educated about and would genuinely appreciate. This is certainly in my top three "Dream Car" list.
Dick Smith was clocked at 198 in a Cobra with a standard windshield.
Brad the Pitts Thank you for the input. It led to a great article about him and his Cobra.
@@BradThePitts That was gravity assisted coming down off the banking at Daytona?
I remember reading that the cobras aero starting hitting a wall after 150 and that was the reason for they Daytonas. Said that after 170 it was taking like 100hp jumps to get 5-10 more mph. fwiw
@@countrymorgan2942 The Daytona Coupe was powered by the same 289 as the early Cobras. They made around 380-390 horsepower. The 427 Competition models made 550-600 horsepower. These power numbers were made by 1960's engine technology that was available at the time. The Super Snake engine was a 427 Competition engine with twin Paxton superchargers on it and an Edelbrock crossram intake manifold with 2- Holley 660 cfm carburetors and made 800-850 horsepower with 1960's engine technology. Packaging all that power in a 2400 pound car is what dreams are made of.
I think people are scared of it. Genuinely. Thats why it doesnt bring more money. They know. It commands respect. Carol shelby grade respect... what a badass.
I WILL OWN THIS CAR ONE DAY!!!!
Automatic transmission ?????
if i owned that car i would be too worried to drive it anywhere in fear of wrecking it like the other one was
if it a last one it sure be in the car museum or a car show to be show off to everyone
This should be given as a gift to the person who figures out how to go warp speed.
Man not only is this car super car history but this is legit American History being sold
Pure beast.
So does anyone know who bought the car?
Hella cool
Imagine if you got that Cobra, the 67’ GT500 Super snake, a GT40, and the Flying mustang and get them all together
There is only one remaining Super Snake - the other was destroyed in a crash.
Mustang imitations need not apply, no matter how much I like them. 9-)
If that car had aerodynamics. It would have been the first super car. Instead carol said i love the flaws. Lets just make the perfect engine of the day
Love this car. Mainly because of the Bill Cosby story but also it's a twin Paxton Supercharged like my Twin Procharged Camaro😊
Love the story about Cosby driving his... I think it scared him and he send it back. Didn't a dentist or someone end up with it and drive it off a bridge? A car for Carroll... because he could fly a plane... and that thing was as crazy.

Very significant car however I’d rather have a 2020 gt500 and the 4.92 million leftover
As the buyer of this car I can say two years later I would have paid ten million if I had to I look at this every day and night
Wow, criminally undervalued as in seriously below the price of what it should command. Just think of an imagined comparison from the swinging sixties, let's say Enzo's own street driven bigger capacity Ferrari 250GTO in the same condition as this Super Snake, 1 of 1, now try counting the zeros at auction when that would sell. Hate to say it but take it to Europe, Hong Kong or Japan next time, some guy will pay a lot more.
I wish I could see that car in action
Don’t worry Shelby we’ll look after your baby trust me
Is there a way to see how much they put into it I'd seriously like to know just for myself
Lucky
Bill Cosby returned a Shelby Cobra. That speaks volumes.
Bill did a comedy bit in the '60's on this car and how he gave it back as it scared the s**t out of him .

Very nice i think the owner will drive it...hopefully they wouldnt scare them selves too bad...the motor with out superchargers is ford racing was 485 with out superchargers 2 added...so u can imagine 700 easy..
Love the car , but needed to be a 4spd car . Scary with an automatic next level scary stick!
The 4spd's at the time would not handle 800hp, this was to Shelby's dismay but he did it anyway.
Needs a bus transmission for all that torque 😮
Eu adoro deus e abaixo vem minha paixão por esse carro

Is there any videos of this thing actually running and driving?
They drove it off the stage, so it was running here

However; ya can be buried in it!
@Dave, but it's so much fun playing with them while your here.
only $5 million? Especially with Carroll Shelby's history with that car, it should've brought more (I would think). That kind of is a bargain for the new owner.
I have a feeling the last owner thought the same thing. I would imagine people buy this car as an investment but clearly this one is not growing for some reason.
@@LordHolley Do you understand how much 5 million bucks is? And to pay that for a car is insane.
@@blessed7fold In the world of those classics, it is actually 'cheap' at the price. As they say about investments though, they can go up or down.
For a contrast, the same year a McLaren F1 sold for 20.5m$, and in 2018, a Ferrari 250GTO went for 70m$.
Both of those cars are special, but they also made more of each that this Shelby and the SC versions (30 of those), yet almost never fail to sell for higher and higher prices.
Amazingly of the 36 GTO's made, all were still accounted for when that one got sold.
@@benwu7980 that is not cheap in the world of classics. Only a relatively few cars sell for that much or more

Looked like Craig Jackson bid it up to 4.9 than let it go wen it hit 5
Pretty tacky for Jackson to shill bid it up then back out, Pratt and him have been overinflaters of values for years, several articles about it.

8:34 AC Cars is a British company, so is not only "americano".
The Cobra models were built by Shelby-American in Los Angeles with small block engines during the years 1961-1965, and big block engines were used from 1965-1967.
5 mil is actually not enough for the car
A car worthy of a Muhammed Ali style story intro. What a gorgeous machine. I've found true love at last.
The things I could do with $5 million…

Liar
@@cmccarthy I can barely picture a '69 fastback doing 145 with a 4 barrel 390.
My Mom's '68 GALAXY *2 barrel* 390 4-door could hit 120 with enough open roadway and FAR worse aerodynamics.
I don't like cars, I don't even know how to drive but God damn that is fucking cool!
I'd demand a dyno sheet saying the engine really has 800hp. Ford's RACING engines in the mid-60's were 390-425hp. Twin-supercharged or not, that's a lot for the internals to handle. I'd demand $5,000 back for every 1hp under 800hp.
Ford RACING 427 side oilers made more than 425 HP.
That was the FACTORY rating - and was conservative.
Even DODGE said that the 427 side oiler was capable of over 500hp (no blowers needed) - when complaining to NASCAR about it's unfair power advantage over the 426 Hemi.
Is it capable of 800 NET horsepower by current standards? Probably not, but the claim was always an estimate in GROSS horsepower anyway as Shelby didn't have access to a dyno that would handle the engine.
If I owned this car I would have it till I died then someone else could have a chance to enjoy it
Brings back memories as a kid riding around in a 427 twin super charge (called turbo's today) jimmy raced it had trophy's that where at least 3 to 5 foot tall. It was a great time back then
Um,
A turbocharger relies on a vehicle's exhaust to spool up a turbine to power a compressor. The compressor then pulls in and feeds more air to an engine. On the other hand, a supercharger depends on the engine to rotate. ... A supercharger doesn't rely on exhaust gas and power comes immediately.
@@johnkempf1808 back then a turbo was also called a supercharger you know back 50s 60s
@@johnkempf1808 if you like to look it up you can chassis # 3331
