- In this video, we have Peter Klutt discuss the history and current values of the 427 Semi-Competition Cobras and Gary Klutt taking his first drive in an S/C Cobra! For Ultra rare classic car content check out our recent video on this 1 of 1 1970 Chevy Nova SS with an L89 engine: • The Car That Shouldn't...
One Of Just 29 Original 427 Semi-Competition Cobras Produced, this example is undoubtedly one of the purest, most original Of Any S/C Cobra left today. This S/C has its factory original Dual-Quad 427ci side oiler engine, factory original aluminum body, and factory original chassis. Recently went through a concours quality restoration performed by Legendary Motorcar. Restored as delivered, in Its Factory Sapphire Blue paint. Accompanied with a copy of the original Shelby American sales invoice, its SAAC Cobra Registry entry, and a documented world-class restoration. When you break down the total production of the S/C cars, of the 29 produced, many were raced hard and suffered from accidents, trauma and replaced engines, replaced bodies and replaced chassis. This car somehow made it through life unharmed and undoubtedly remains one of the most original and exquisitely presented 427 S/Cs extant. As one of just 29 S/C Cobras produced, it is notable for its incredible rarity and consequently, remains truly the holy grail of all street-legal Cobras.

Excellent video Hollywood. A great car and thanks for posting. Cheers from Texas.
There’s an old story about the 427 cobra I heard many years ago but it could be just folklore but anyway here it is….some hotshot 20 something year old with some money goes into the dealership and is adamant about wanting to buy a 427. The salesman informs him that the 427 is a beast and perhaps the 289 would be more in line with what he really needs. Being a fearless guy he tells the salesman that nope he wants the fastest one and he’s got the money ready. The salesman nods his head and says he will bring one out from the back for the test drive but per policy the salesman will be behind the wheel. After a thorough romp through the back roads, twisting through the turns, fast accelerating and giving him the full experience of what a Cobra is capable of. Upon returning to the dealership the guys hair and clothes are out of place and he’s as white as a ghost after one hell of a test run. He then looks at the salesman and says”you know my friend, think you are right about the 427. That drive convinced me that the 427 is way too much for me to handle and the 289 might be the more tame of the two”.Upon hearing that the salesman says” by the way that WAS the 289” Not sure if that ever happened but it’s a good story.
Ha, ha. That was one cunning salesman.
True or not, it makes for a good laugh.
The Pure Driver’s Car!! No Computers Just Raw Seat of Your Pants Driving. Ken Miles was one hell of a driver to drive one of these all out. Thanks 🙏 Great Video!!!
I agree, Ken Miles was a Great and Totally Unique Driver, A Driver's Driver. If the film "Ford V Ferrari (Great Film), was correct and true, I don't know either way, then Ken Miles was treated Despicably and Disgustingly by Leo Bebbe. A Vile man, who kissed 💋 Henry Ford the second's Arse, constantly. Finally Ken Miles didn't deserve to die, the way He did, a Cruel fate. 😔
I’d take this over any modern supercar any day.
I own CSX4845, i must say its just pure pleasure every time I drive it. I have had it now for 24 years and will never sell it. It’s my drug whenever I have had a bad day. Love these videos please keep up the good work
I’m not a Cobra expert, but I know more now than I did before I watched this video! Your videos are amazing and getting better. Thanks so much!
I would like to say I am so glad that you and Gary started coming back and doing programs and shows I remember watching y’all on the speed channel. Y’all always did a great job. Great illustration thank you for everything that y’all do.
A great episode featuring an amazing Cobra. I am about the same age as Peter, and I know a lot about cars. However, every time I watch one of Peter's episodes, I gain new and valuable knowledge. He truly is a credible sources of very important information about so many remarkable motorcars. Cheers!
The most beautiful, most iconic, most amasing American sportscar ever, thank you, Master Caroll Shelby, thank you Legendary Motorcar.
I know why he lets you drive them. He is your Dad. He has experienced the raw, visceral power and joy of a 427 S/C Cobra. He loves you, young man. He wants you to live the love he has experienced in his years on this planet. The love of a child and Cobras. It makes perfect sense to me. Enjoy young man, and recognise the love your Dad has for you.. It is a rare breed for sure.
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!
There is zero excuse you guys are not coveted on TV throughout North America.
P L E A S E, stay healthy and keep doing what you love and so many of us love as well.
Merry Christmas!
Such a cool sounding and looking car... from the nose to tail! Gary and Peter are the happiest guys in the world, they buy, restore and race the best cars of all time. Thanks guys!
WOW Charlie "Bud" Beidler was a personal friend of mine . He lived in New Hope Pa. He Helped Arrange my Purchase of Cobra
chassis CSX 3227 . HE Also offered me an opportunity to PURCHASE a returned from Europe Cobra DAYTONA Coupe !!!
Yes , thats Correct ONE of the SIX "Daytonas" But I was short of funds and couldnt come up with the TEN Thousand bucks Shelby wanted for the Daytona ...... I WAS close , but 2 grand short of owning a REAL Cobra Daytona Coupe !!
That's when you start selling things like tools, kidneys, your family members.

Haha yep, you got it
I missed out BIG TIME
But at the time , no one ever IMAGINED the value they would
Bring in 2024 ...
Amazing and then some !
Neat story. Do you still have 3227?
I am a mopar guy but this and a gulwing are my two dream cars so this posting was a double treat the added bonus of the history as described by you
I really enjoy your channel. Peter I watched you years ago on TV. How great to be able to work with your son. Gary is extremely knowledgeable as well. He enjoys working with his dad, it's obvious. Good job guys
These videos are so awesome. Hearing insider knowledge passed down is priceless
These also further my love for early Vipers. They too are simple, drivers cars head to toe and are largely misunderstood by the uninitiated. Cars with these pure characteristics are what fuel my passion. Thanks again Peter!
Wow this really brings back some great memories. My cousin use to take me to the road racing course in Upper Marlboro MD from 63-66. Whether you sat at the track or on the farmer’s hill next door you see Cobras in the parking lots as well as the track. Magical times 😢
Sales of these ballistic cars go to the self-made guys that first saw and heard one, as a teenager. Its something this person can not/ will not forget, and the goal is acheived 40 years later. Perfection at its best!! Great video, thank you!
What a gorgeous machine. These videos are as close as I will ever get to one of these things. Thanks for sharing
I'm glad that the show has continued. I watched the Original Show Dream Car Garage way back!
Unfreaking believable. It does not get better than this.🥰
This is the only car I truly love. Great video
I wish I had two more hands so I could give this video 4 thumbs up! 👍 👍 👍 👍 Such an awesome video with so much info!
Outstanding presentation! Truly outstanding. You answered all of my questions about the differences between the competition and the semi-competition modelsl I truly love the way they sound. Thank you.
The S/C Cobra was and still is the benchmark of all sports cars. Whatever you drove, you didn't eff with a Cobra, it was going to embarrass you. As a teen, I have 5 cars I wanted to own before I die. This was the top of the list. (Second was an early 80s 930 RUF) The other three I have owned and still have one of them.
Which are?
@@shabbos-goy9407 1985 IROCZ, 1979 Fiat Spyder 2000, 1982 24/26 Code C3 Corvette (Still have)
So I vaguely recall a magazine issue from the later 1970s that did a test with a 427 Cobra, it did it in 12 seconds, not the quarter mile but instead it went from zero to 100 back to zero in 12 seconds flat.... OMG. I was around 14 when I read this. I wanted one then, I want one now, lol, but at 60 years old I honestly would prefer the 289 version, just a bit easier to deal with. I have been a gear head of small block FoMoCo engines all my driving years and built many but never a 427... What a treat. Great video, thanks for the show. ✌️
Built a lot of these. Miss them so much.
Do you need a smile like that .
Don't need a smile, but want to smile like that.
Those wheels are perfect!
Fantastic. Excellent video.
epic restoration I love it. Shelby Cobra; one of the best British designs of all time.
A Great video and as a Cobra Fanatic, I found it most interesting and informative. You can Never have enough knowledge about Cobra's, Yeah!! 😀👍

I have owned A 427 cobra since 1968.
It IS a Legend to behold .... i was Lucky to have bought one "Exactly" at the correct time and place !
For a 7000$ investment , the car is now valued at 2 million + $$
Incredible , to say the least 😊

I STILLto this day ,get Goose bumps EVERY TIME I start the Engine 😁
May You Always Enjoy Your Cobra and I envy you, sir, ha. 😊👌

Hi
Thanks ! Its been a Great Ride over the decades .Cant believe its been that long ago.
I havee a bit of a challenge these days getting into the cockpit (seat) lol
These old bones arent like they used to be .
But i have to say , the Thrill of the Cobra Has Never diminished ! It Always turns Heads when out on the Road ,and the " music" the engine and side pipes bring, is rapidly fading from todays
Sports cars . SO glad i got the opportunity
To own one ,and was able to enjoy it for so long . If you ever get the chance to take a Ride in one , its a experience YOU will long Remember 😉
Trust me on that one !
Thanks Again !
Cheers ~
Hello again. You are truly blessed, honoured and fortunate, to have Enjoyed your Cobra. I enjoyed your story and may you and your car, have many, many more special times together. Safe journeys and thank you sir, take care. 👌
Hard to express the feel and enjoyment this car offers.
Awesome. One day, I'm going to build a kit. Just the best combination of light weight and stomp you could wish for.
Great video. Nothing beats those original body lines. Even minor tweaking of the kit car bodies is noticeable and doesn't look right, and most are far more than that.
I'm no internet troll but your math doesn't add up. "Most" Cobra Kit Cars on the road are from Factory Five Racing and their MK4 body is a 3D digital scan of Dick Smith's CSX - the famous car that did 198mph on the track.
@BradThePitts Look closer.
One of the best looking cars ever.
One of my all time favourite cars. A little sports car with a 427 R code motor. Awesome.
I am 76 and always wanted one. Back then you could buy a used one cheap.
In 1976 I passed on a 289 car for $4900
Bought my 427 in 1968 for $4,995.
Sweet ride.
Growing up a car crazy kid these things were larger then life and legendary. It felt like forever before a modern car was as capable as this thing. Well into the 80s these still seemed like the sports car benchmark.
Of all the cars out there, nothing comes close to a legend as the Cobras in my opinion.
Lots of conflicting info on "Medium Riser" The Medium Riser can best be thought of as the "R" code Low Riser side oiler variant. So basically all the "R" code 427s in 1965+ were "medium risers" as Ford took the bigger valves from the high risers, but didn't use the monster ports from the high riser = Medium Riser. Great engines. Bulletproof, tons of peak power, exceptional powerband.
Thanks, Peter. l thought I knew everything there was to know about the AC Cobras. I don't. Thanks for clearing it up. I guess an old dog can still learn something.
Great video, especially the back round of these cars.
Great show 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great education, thanks!
My ultimate dream car!!!
What a treat!
Great video! Really enjoying these deep dives with great camera work and detailed history. May I suggest a future video on CSX2196, the Flip Top. It was great seeing the car at SAAC 49. Cheers
Glorious!
From the garage to the New Jersey Turnpike 6 minutes 58 seconds that's 15 seconds better than last year
Carroll Shelby got those fuel caps from his time racing at ASTON MARTIN in the 50's.
You ought to do a book list of your favourite authorised Shelby books on the cars, and Shelby himself.
Great car! Always wondered what happened to Jimmy Webb’s ‘Super Cobra’, as he called it? I imagine most Americans see it as an American car, but clearly it was an English designed & manufactured car made by AC & then hot-rodded by Americans.
At a fraction of the price I love my Backdraft 427 Cobra.
Didn't AC in England make a couple of these with the same chassis but with a 289 in place of the 427?
Someday. . .
Jimmy bought a 427 street cobra. Came with small tires and full out the back exhaust. All of these things where replaced. Janey his wife thought it was the ugliest car ever later on she purchased a little 289 cobra growing up around all of this seemed normal but later in life you see how unique it was to be a part of it all.
Have you ever listened to the Bill Cosby bit about buying and taking delivery of his Cobra? Find it if it's available
@islandaerial3414 Hello I have. Yes he bought A Super Snake 🐍👌 it's a funny story, pity about the poor guy who bought it off him, that guy was killed in it, sadly. The part where Bill describes him and his granddaughter are sitting shaking in it, on tick over.
❤
I absolutely love this car! I'm curious if anyone knows the color of the cobra in the movie gumball rally?
This or a new Shelby. I will take this. No stupid computers or sensors telling me the tire pressure is low.
What is the rear end gear ratio in this car. Thank you.
What's the chassis number of this car? CSX3040 perhaps?
Sorry, don’t likes the super spoiled kid, But utmost respect to Peter and everything he’s done for real car enthusiasts. Thanx Peter klute!
@ 2:20 ..... the Cobra looks it's best with no side pipes. imho.
Street cobras were made to be pretty
