With a jab that high, your exposing a huge mid area. Any talented opponent will sidestep and right cross or right body jab to those ribs, which is gonna really hurt.... !!!!!
I am also a south paw her foot work was weird instead of doing a twisting pushin motion all she did was twist to get more power into it she has to almost do a quick push with the part just below the big toe as well as the big toe you can also tell she has been punching wrong for awhile becuase her elbows are screwed up you twist from your thumb kuckles up to sideways towards the other arm to get twist aswell as prevent strain on your arm i did enjoy the video it showed the bare minimum the rest is litterally making it into your own style of fighting
@TheGrelephant no, you can throw any punch with either hand, uppercuts and hooks especially with both. thats how you make combinations. jab with your front hand. straights with your other hand and the rest of the punches in the boxing spectrum can be thrown with either hand
thanks for the great boxing mechanics video. As a Wing Chun student, I like to study different fighting styles so I can understand the mechanics of others; there are many similarities between Western Boxing and Wing Chun that both disciplines would do well to understand, borrow, and incorporate. Very good form by the woman demonstrating the punches!
@MotivationToWin No what he was saying is you keep your jab higher than your head, so you bend your knees and lift your jab so it covers your head against counterpunch. So if you are tall you simply bend while covering your head with your arm while throwing the jabs.
@MotivationToWin lol im really tall and my trainer still tells me to punch high u usually wont be fighting someone too short unless its a street fight, if it is back up and now you have the reach over him so you maintain full power even if you punch low.
I can also understand that you got to understand the height range of everything and he's just basically showing you basic moves I'm sure in no way she would just be throwing for his face if she had to fight she would be going for body shots too and we know right hooks and left hooks can hit those kidneys with devastating blows
Thanks fo the vid, I've recently started boxing myself. It's helped me focus, get fit, cut down drinking but I've noticed on the nights I go the boxing gym I can't sleep well after is there a reason for that ?
@lathesius To each his own. But you can get more power by turning your hand horizontal on the hook. I mean it feels more comfortable to keep your hands down and your chin up, but I wouldn't suggest it.
thats how i throw a hook but iv seen people have their thumb pointing back towards them and it doesnt feel right to me. also if you drop it slightly short then you hit with the bone of your little finger which is asking for a broken hand. is it a valid punch with thumb pointing back towards you and if so what are the pros and cons of it?
@Ecnfl The deeper you step in the more height you will lose when you come in. So even against someone of equal height you will often be positioned a little lower because you step in and it lowers you.
Honestly watching Mike Tyson fight like someone had mentioned about the way Tyson threw punches is all I need to know Tyson was a shorter fighter he was a little tank keeping that gravity of his weight to that punch I think was his winning combo along with his ability to move in the ring and connect with the fighters
@MotivationToWin If you're really tall (I'm about 6'4) you aren't going to be using a high jab. Instead, just throw a hook...or use a regular jab. Personally, my combination is lead, cross, jab, hook.
@MotivationToWin If you're a really tall fighter . You definetly just need to use your reach, 9/10 times the taller person has longer reach. throw hard jabs.. then double jabs and wait till hooks open up! goodluck
Alright so if your boxing stance is left foot forward, does that mean that you only hook, jab, and uppercut with your left hand? And if I wanted to throw a right jab, hook, uppercut, etc I would have to switch my stance?
@aroff595 Yeah i understand the physics of it, but for me i hook best with my knuckles vertical. Like you say, to each is own. But i never lower my hands and open my chin :)
i thought the left hook hand position was wrong?? they were clearly showing the left hook palm face down, i thought it was supposed to be rotated to have the pinky down, am i wrong or are we both right??
question* what if you go for a right upper? im guessing you push with right leg aswell, yes? and all uppercuts with hands far away from the stance is a no-no?
so for jab if i am right we should jab high so that only one part is exposed which is mid part...if jab is low then then your face and mid are exposed...which is 2 parts exposed...thanks mate
so im assuming if your opponent is short or about the same height as you, to maintain the "keep your jab/cross high" you have to squat down then thrust into the punch?
Why the hell would you move your head to the inside and counter hook from the outside when countering a jab? The only thing you'd do wit that is weirdly grabbing your opponents arm. When moving to the inside an uppercut would be a way better option and even a straigjt would do the job just fine. Positioning on the outside line of your opponent when countering punches (especially ones that go straight forward) is very neat in general, since it leaves them wide open and they can't see you as good. How do you think most liver punches are set up?
@MotivationToWin if ure really tall then u should lower ur stance... and in boxing the height difference will never be drastic because of the weight classes.
She seems to be fully extending her arm when she throws a punch. That's bad, you could hurt yourself by hyper extending or whatever the proper term is.
I know she is not a professional fighter but her punches are sooooo telegraphed by her body movement. I would think to illustrate the "proper" way to throw a punch a better technician would have been used.
I was always taught to drop your back foot knee a little kick your heel out just a bit, make a > shape with your shoulders and ships. "raise your hip on the side you're punching with and lower that sides shoulder" then power your leg back up as you drop your shoulder and bring your uppercut up. but I guess I was trained to knock heads off
love it! thank you professor! started boxe classes to increase my bjj skills
With a jab that high, your exposing a huge mid area. Any talented opponent will sidestep and right cross or right body jab to those ribs, which is gonna really hurt.... !!!!!
calm down. This a beginners course
As a south paw I love this shit.
Michael Murphy lol me too!
Same !
That dog...
@0:08
the dog's like "Oh, f**k they start again..."
@TheGrelephant no, you can throw any punch with either hand, uppercuts and hooks especially with both. thats how you make combinations. jab with your front hand. straights with your other hand and the rest of the punches in the boxing spectrum can be thrown with either hand
I love the noise she makes when she leaves the first jab out there...
This is what I was looking for. Thanks

Boxing is beautiful, man.

Love thz simple and informative

1) Jab, 2) Cross, 3) Hook & 4) Uppercut
Nice video for practicing boxing
Solid video thanks

When I hook I always do to it so my knuckles are vertical as opposed to horizontal. Just what I feel more comfortable with :)
love how all the videos have the dog in it haha^^

with a hook why do you turn your hand flat rather than keeping it upright? it feels wierd turning my hand over when hooking
Thank you
Wonderful sharing
LOL TO THE RANDOM DOG IN THE BACKGROUND HAHAHA ! ! ! ! ! !
i thought the left hook hand position was wrong?? they were clearly showing the left hook palm face down, i thought it was supposed to be rotated to have the pinky down, am i wrong or are we both right??

whats the difference between the jab and the cross?
so for jab if i am right we should jab high so that only one part is exposed which is mid part...if jab is low then then your face and mid are exposed...which is 2 parts exposed...thanks mate
@MotivationToWin serious answer - i guess u have to worry bout uppercut i guess , its easy for the shorter opponent to hit ur jaw
so im assuming if your opponent is short or about the same height as you, to maintain the "keep your jab/cross high" you have to squat down then thrust into the punch?
youd think that uppercut to the chin would mess somebodys teeth up probably even with mouthguard
I love it I realy love it
Nice
Poor Ashley, don't die :)
great vid
But you cant jab high if your enemy is shorter than you.
Why the hell would you move your head to the inside and counter hook from the outside when countering a jab? The only thing you'd do wit that is weirdly grabbing your opponents arm. CryoClaw Not when you are punching from the outside, a shoulder roll can‘t cover your whole head.
CryoClaw you could also throw the straight from the inside, which is common counter
@SKILLErElvurn jab is left hand , cross is right hand ..i guess ..heh reply me if u knw da answer .wanna knw too
umm why so flat footed? back foot= heal up
I notice how she pulls her arm back a little bit before throwing ah jab its good to do it but not all the time
You crouch, You're supposed to be crouched so you can protect your body and face at the same time.
Damn I didn’t even notice the dog 🐶
Finally found a good basic punching video !!
The dog walked away lol
pls man i hit in bag without that only naked hands and now when i hit bag a little it make me pain how to fix it pls help me
So is a cross the same as a straight?
Her cross was not fully extended
Thanks a lot man. Very cool stuff. Keep it up. I have a problem w/ my lead punch my jab is weak.
@MotivationToWin if ure really tall then u should lower ur stance... and in boxing the height difference will never be drastic because of the weight classes.
She seems to be fully extending her arm when she throws a punch. That's bad, you could hurt yourself by hyper extending or whatever the proper term is.
you dont know even the proper term but you know that is bad and could hurt. Do you know why as well or you just assume
wiam haddani its fucking bad. Try it on
It's Still So you arent supposed to fully extend your arm? How do you do it then pls
Name less you need to punch but dont fully extend it.
It's Still me Whats so bad about fully extending it?
Keep your shoulder high so it touches your cheek.
nice vid
@EdwardDaniell Only if you have to :P :P
Got a question here, your supposed to jab high, but what if your really tall? lol
I know she is not a professional fighter but her punches are sooooo telegraphed by her body movement. I would think to illustrate the "proper" way to throw a punch a better technician would have been used.
shes cute and her punches are bit weak but her form is perfect :)
1 Jab
2 Straight
3 Hook
4 Hook
her uppercuts were way more than 3 inches off her chin. most of her punches were arm punches.
LOL the dog! bent tail
Her arm isn't supposed to be locked you'll break you're elbow
Meh...the hook is not what I would use it. Palms down? That's a good way to limit your range, accuracy and power.
I like the dog
Looks like CJ at the San Andreas gym lmao
Doggins!!!!
very helpful thanks
1 jab
2 Cross
3 hook
4 uppercut
I never seen a random dog in a boxing gym before lol.
i see Akita dog
she's In a right handed person's stanc, a true knows that
Saw this befkre a fight still got beat up
Hehehehe 😃
I dont like the hook hand position
That's a terrible uppercut! However, she did all other types right.
I wonder why he says not to load up on uppercuts
I was always taught to drop your back foot knee a little kick your heel out just a bit, make a > shape with your shoulders and ships. +Cameron Brammer hips not ships. dumbass
you would get caught by a counter jab as the bigger range of movement would allow your opponent to see the punch coming.
Hang a boxing bag from your truck with AUTO BOXING from our channel.
hm she is telegraphing it a little too much (jab) for my taste, but nice video
like
Search "The Hurricane" Julaton workouts. Youd be the one in the kitchen
SHUT UP TOYOTA
that would be illegal in professional boxing....
the hook was wrong
This was 9 years ago
That's too much exaggeration on foot heel work lol
+RS yeah you're right
Another one haha
