      JT Van V I have "acquired" several boxing dvd series, since I started recently. I can truthfully say I wasted my time, should have just found your channel sooner. It surprised my that there were great jiu jitsu dvds (serra, gracie barra, etc) Muay thai (Rob Kaiman, Razor Rob, etc), but so many lackluster boxing dvds. If you were not such a great guy you could easily monetize your instruction.

      jandrmayers thanks my man, I actually do monetize my instruction here, just not all of it - www.precisionstriking.ca/shop/

      it doesn't really take away from him being a great guy by monetizing his instruction. he obviously spends countless hours and has immense personal passion for the sport and teaching. the quality and value of his channel is awesome and i certainly appreciate having access to the content for free but JT deserves and nothing wrong with gettin paid for doing something you love and sucha great service to others. I know what u mean though.

    For anyone looking for a great combo, my favorite is a 1 1 2 to the body 3 back up top with a straight right following the hook. Took it from Pacquiao when he knocked down Keith Thurman. Great for pushing them back fast and dropping them as they are retreating

  • @ficcelolz3870
    @ficcelolz3870 9 років тому +7

    #1 right uppercut, left hook, roll, left hook (infight or at a distance)
    #2 straight left, right uppercut, left hook, straight right, look for an opening then come with another straight right (going back or walking forward)
    #3 straight right, left hook (roll, left bodyuppercut, left uppercut)
    so many things you can do with these combination (adding more punches, rolls etc.

  • @Roycoproductions
    @Roycoproductions 9 років тому +6

    1. Twisting jab - right uppercut (the twisting jab splits open the guard for your uppercut).
    2. Jab - right straight to the body - left hook/left uppercut (by a shot to the body, the hands go low, then comes your hook/uppercut).
    3. Catch the jab - counter with a right straight/right hook (try to push his jab down to counter with a right straight/right hook).
    4. Jab - left hook - right hook. (you're going to step in when you want to throw the left hook).
    5. Jab - right uppercut - left hook - right hook.
    In kickboxing I would always follow all these combos up with a livershot and finish it with a good right low-kick to end my typical Dutch Style kickboxing combo (accept at #2).
    If you make them on full speed with good timing, they will be effective for sure :)

    Another great video JT Van V !
    I mainly use two simple combos:
    -jab to the body then follow it straight up with the jab cross to the head.
    -Slip the right cross, then hop with both feet to get in close and give them a sharp left rip to the body followed by a quick uppercut. Changed it a little after watching your gazelle punch video. Works a treat as I love counter punching and the footwork you showed makes it even easier! Thanks mate!

    1. Jab, Cross, Left upper cut cross..Bread and butter. This combo opens up so many opportunities to land more shots its crazy.
    2. Double jab, Cross to solar plexus while slipping to the left, left hook body, left hook head, finish with cross
    3. Jab, Cross followed immediately with a backfist, while coming through with backfist I switch stance and come through with left overhand, right upper to body, spinning back elbow/fist.
    I personally like to overwhelm people with speed, constant striking and change of levels. Its a pretty effective method. It works beautifully for me. By the way, I appreciate you JT. Your tips are super helpful. You have truly helped my boxing big time.

      I took Thai boxing first and really wish I had not. Ether way I prefer the t-stance over the boxers stance. But Thai boxers rely less on fists and more on the whole body. I consider boxing the sister of Thai boxing since they are so interchangeable.

    mma background - so my 3 favorites are - 1) jab, cross (doesn't have to land more of a distraction) then throw the right body kick almost at the same time.
    2) Against the cage. jab, cross, left body shot, cross
    3) side step to left to get an angle as I jab, right kick across the body since I'm at an angle. I land this everytime I spar.

    1: orthodox- jab, right cross, step to the left, and liver shot and finish with hook up top, this mostly works when u chase your opponent down towards the ropes
    2: speed punches with jab and body jab, and then right cross body and then explode up top
    3: fury with left hand: play with jab, hooks and body shots

  • @AbaddonRequiem

    I haven't thought of favorite combos specifically, but what I find myself doing on the bag a lot is a left jab, right cross, slip to the outside followed by a left hook to the body and a right overhand to the head. Not sure why I do it, but I fire that off a lot faster than anything else and instinctively.

    1. jab-jab-jab with a step circling around to his left on each jab.
    2. backpedalling in a circle around him to the left, then flip a jab up at his chin without breaking stride, hard cross to the body
    3. "right hook" (slapping his lead hand down with my rear hand) roll over the top of it with a cross

  • @johnhurt7255
    @johnhurt7255 9 років тому +4

    left jab right cross left hook slip then right uppercut.
    left jab left jab then hard right hook
    switch to southpaw then jump forward with a left uppercut then switch back to orthodox and right hand.

    Great vid man. Really clear thinking.
    1) fake the jab then right cross body shot with shuffle slip to close distance then left body hook then left head hook
    2) jab, right long cross, right short cross, sometimes catches opponent unaware
    3) jab or double jab to close distance then right body hook, left body hook

    I don’t go to a gym I only use the bag in my back yard. My favorite combo is Jab, cross, hook body, cross, head kick. It’d have to be that or jab, jab, cross, left hook, cross, jab, knee.

  • @Brad45420
    @Brad45420 9 років тому +31

    i love to hook off the jab, and make it look slow and predictable, only to get them really focusing on the hook and trying to counter me, so i can come with my right, but also if i make the hook nice and short it keeps the guy form countering over my jab me being the usually shorter fighter, but 1 2 1 step back 2 3, or since i use the tyson peek a boo , so i jab, slip left (double it if needed), left shovel body then left hook, great video

    Thanks, as always, for your video.
    My favourite 3 are:
    1,1,3,4body - I'm generally on the outside as a counterpuncher but use this as a fairly standard way of closing the gap and setting up some pressure.
    1,1body,8,7 - have a lot of success chasing down with this and love the shovel hook
    1 (slip right),6,3,4body,4body,3 - Love using this when he's on the ropes and I'm pressuring. Tend to roll off of the last hook and step back to the outside.
    Thanks again man,
    Peace.

    Straight left to head---straight right to head---dip and throw left hook to body then finish with right and left hooks to the head....When I was a teenager growing up in South Philadelphia, I used to go to the YMCA in center city, and get in the ring with guys who were training for fights. I got my ass kicked, but I learned how to defend myself on the street. I trained like a boxer until my late forties, and was in fabulous shape. Great on the speed and heave bags, and could jump with a cable rope all day long. Now I'm retired and sixty-six and using your videos to get my aging body in better condition. The Evasive Steps video is great for me, especially if some young wise guy wants to knock the crap out of me. Fighting at my age is a no-no; so getting the hell out of the way is the best way to go. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. You're a fabulous guy.

    I like the Jab - Left Hook - Right Cross, the jab and the left hook just to set up the right cross. (Jab and left hook with normal speed, and then speed up after the left hook exploding the rotation with the right cross)
    Another that i use a lot is the simple Jab feint to the head - Right cross to the body (Or Jab feint and then a jab do the body)
    I also like the Jab (Stepping a little to the left/inside) - feint right cross (Turning the body with the feint) - Left Uppercut to the body, (you can also finish this throwing the Left Uppercut to the Body and come up with a Left Hook to the head)
    *All from orthodox stance.

I've trained with some of the top MMA guys in the world for over 15 years and, yes, sometimes they call out the actual strike but ANYONE worth their salt will know the difference between a 2 and an 8. this is a powerful combination, best used when opponents already been slowed by body shots.
    jab, left hook jab. all lead hand orthodox. only for fighters with longer reach. dont try it vice versa you will get hit unless you make it a counterattack or throw whilst angling and closing.

    #3 Double jab to an overhand right or right cross. So many people instinctively lean away from the first two jabs, they invite that right hand in while they're off balance and unsuspecting.
    #2 Just a simple 1-2-3. If I can time it right all three land really flush.
    #1 Fake the jab and throw the left hook. They try to slip to the outside of the jab and end up throwing their head right into the hook.

    Great vid, Jason! As requested, here are three of my favourites...
    I'm a southpaw and my parent art is Muay Thai. However, I still tend to favour the jab as an initiating technique rather than a straight left. So, but hands only:
    1. Double jab, pivot to the right and either left hook or left cross, dependent on distance.
    2. If they have quite a tight guard: double jab (hopefully bringing their hands right up), left uppercut to the body and either a right hook to the head or an overhand left.
    3. Jab, lead hook, left uppercut.

    Thank you, JT Van V for your ideas and strategies. For me, as a southpaw, my best combinations that have been successful in my sparring and bouts are as follows:
    1) Jab, Straight Left, Jab (going forward). Then step back and Jab (out of opponent's range).
    2) With hands up, drop down and fire Straight Left to opponent's body; Right Hook and Straight Left to opponent's head
    3) With hands up, step forward and Jab, Straight Left, Jab, Overhand Left, Right Upper Cut to to chin or through opponent's guard, and step back and Jab.

    1. Jab + cross, then pivot out in a 45degree on my lead leg and fire that huge cross for the jaw, sometimes they block it, but it's still a huge shot to take.
    2. If they try to get all up in my space I fire rear uppercut, lead hook and cross, sometimes I keep spamming lead hook and cross, shaking them up to get the distance.
    3. If they have a space in the middle of their guard it has worked for me to southpaw and slip to the side and do a lead uppercut under their guard, comming up between their hands, they lower their hands and boom, big cross right on the jaw, if they usually take their one hand up again, not thinking, and I go big with the hook, then they bend over and close their guard entirely.

    Left Jab, nose; straight right, jaw.
    Left front kick, jaw; left jab, nose; straight right jaw.
    Left jab, nose; straight right, jaw; left hook, jaw.
    Most everything I do is setup with the jab, or a kick.
    I can replace the straight right with an overhand right, or right cross; but usually the straight right does the job.

    JT Van thanks for asking;that alone got you a like. First off, I love this sport! I learned my first official combo from a boxing fitness training manual I studied out of the library;it was a six piece:jab, straight, lead uppercut, straight, lead hook, power uppercut. After practicing that for years I promised myself all of my combos will come from an admirable source. The next became a favorite because the former pro told me it was a knock out in the golden gloves. This five piece combo is lead uppercut 2x ,lead hook 2x, straight cross(knock out). Last one is an eight piece I observed my boxing hero Iron Mike use in training.Go find it!

    3. Right uppercut, left hook to the body (uppercut adds more leverage/torque)

    Three favorite Combos;
    -Jab, lead hook, overhand right
    -JabX2, 45 deg. Clockwise pivot step w/ straight right, lead body hook(D'Amato #5)
    -Jab to body, anti-clockwise 45 deg pivot step into his lead, (basically stepping into and under his lead arm) followed by a D'Amato #6
    Basically I am a counter fighter now, I am old and fat and slow so I make them come to me. These have worked for me in an aggressive mode and defensive mode.

    I like right cross left hook right cross. As a personal trainer work alot of boxing into my workouts. Its not to difficult to combo learn and its great tool to teach pivoting distribution of weight and keeping hands ups. Anything with a jab jab start great for building strength confidence in the off arm and to start to learn about distance. Slip uppercuts to body because everyone natural mores away from punches its great way to teach beginner to get inside.

  • @nicholasmurner7523
    @nicholasmurner7523 8 років тому +1

    I think the best combo is a very quick 1-2. I work it so often that it is almost as fast as a double jab for me, but much more powerful. The jab is quick with good snap and low power, often doesn't connect but blinds. The 2 is ideally halfway there by the time the guy opens his eyes, and I make it direct, quick, and powerful, then I pull it back asap. If you really practice, you can double up on this combo, or use it in place of a double jab when you can. I have to use caution, though. It is more dangerous to throw than a double jab, because you open yourself when throwing a right hand. For that reason, I focus on being very quick and timed at slipping, ducking, and turning after the right hand when I feel exposed after the 1-2.
    I also like the jab followed by a right hook to the body. Here is when I like to use it.
    I throw a jab, expecting a counterpunch from the oppenent's right hand(This works best if the opponent isn't a southpaw). I usually come to expect this by reading the opponent and judging when he will counter that way. When it comes I roll under it as I throw the right hook to the body. This motion took a lot of practice on the bag and in sparring, and I took a lot of punches learning it :). But now that I have it, I love it. Because the opponent usually doesn't expect it the first time, you can land a devastating body shot if you are precise, and aware of how your opponent's body is turning (as they throw the right hand). From here, I like to uppercut to the chin with my left as I bring my right arm up to cover that side. This is really good sometimes, because of the way the opponent softens after the body shot (again, sometimes). You wouldn't believe how often the guy will loosen up and end up chomping on his tongue when I uppercut him. I also like a powerful straight left to the chin after the hook. But, the options are varied from the jab-body right hook setup, another reason why I like it.
    Lastly, I like a lead right hand followed by a left hook to the head (I am a bit of a head-hunter if you couldn't tell :) ). Again, it is a risky one. Leading right is always a risk. When I follow that with a left hook, I have to re-rotate my torso around the other way. So I open myself up two times. Here is how I make the combo work. 1st, I use speed. I think speed is the 3rd most important asset a boxer can have, below precision(2) and timing(1). The faster I can get this combo off, the less time I am opened. 2nd, I use it when I am confident that I am faster than my opponent. Usually, it is later in the fight when stamina becomes a factor, and at a time when I judge myself fresher than the other guy. 3rd, I absolutely have to connect on the lead right hand. I need that time when my opponent is stunned/yet to respond to get my lefty hook to his chin/eye before he can react.
    Sweet video man :)

    1)Double jab to the head left hook to the body coming to an uppercut to the body slip then a right hand to the head(I do both stands orthodox and southpaw)
    2) Double Jab to the body feint the third then go to a hook to the head ,cross, then ending with a body shot (most people will raise their hands to guard after the cross if not KOed already)
    3)Southpaw stance, right jab get in with a mike tyson style hook to the body and uppercut to the head, ending with a stance switch then superman punch

    1) I like to use the 1-2 followed by a pivot and a rear power punch off the newly created angle.
    2) Jab to the body with low posture followed by an overhead right, and then a left hook to the body/liver.
    3) 1-2 again but this time when i pivot i throw a missile right hook to the body or as an overhand right. It depends on what targets are available when i initiate the combo.

    hey man! great vids you helped me alot before i found a decent coach.. ... love hearing honest no bull** chat about boxing without the attitude, here are my ..top three... these change depending on what im learning or who im fighting but at the moment the ones that are working for me:
    1.semi-fake left jab to face -hard backhand body ,slip/step right and fire left hook/up through -pivot and high right hook... then possible left body or pivot away
    2: very simple but always works well atleast once or twice in a fight....after a cross catch it with backhand push it down and throw strait over it, an over hand right - or after a jab catch with left push it down and again over hand right then left hook then roll away ... possible left hook body or plough on through with whatever
    3: again very simple and basic .. strain 1,2 lean/step/hop and another right cross .. very simple but effective. love the vids keep em comming!

    Just came across the favorite top 3 combos. Great video! I boxed for about ten years in amateur competition--just do it to stay in shape, but still get in ring. After years of getting my face bashed in by better boxers, I can say that some combos that have helped me, and saved me at times, are the following (I'm orthodox stance): 1) slip opponents jab (move your head to your right) and then fire up a right cross followed by a left hook to head or body. Throwing this cross is difficult--you are essentially leaning forward when you throw it and it takes practice to not get off balance, but you have got to be able to throw it on the fly as a COUNTER PUNCH to opponents jab, which is bold, but there are lots of lazy jabs that opponents throw--use this to get inside fast and follow up with body combos. 2) my other combo to add is really two combos in one. You can use this combo with a bold powerful jab to get inside and then follow with a right shovel hook to body, then another powerful jab (almost like an overhand jab) to the head--THEN follow with a powerful cross head followed by a left shovel hook them right overhand cross; from here you can follow up with a left hook, other body work, etc. But the real beauty of these combos is that they are designed to be repeated perpetually (left jab, right shovel hook, left jab, right cross, left shovel hook, right cross-->start again at left jab). I've found few opponents that can counter punch this combo set--but it does burn your fuel, so use wisely.

    awesome foot work JT. One I use a lot is A hard Jab with a straight right followed by my right hook which is my power shot. another is two quick hooks to the body from medium range and then two quick hooks to the head with the left hook setting up the power right hook. 3rd combo would be two jabs to close distance then ducking under to the left throwing a decent left hook but really throwing everything into an immediate right hook for the knockout.

    nice video and also liked the video on how to land body punches more in a fight which i find difficult and will use your technique to improve. my favorite combinations are:
    1) Jab, Cross, (hoping the react with a jab or a left hook) if they jab short step to the right followed with a straight right then step further in with a powerful jab
    2) Work to get inside once in tight throw a right uppercut, left hook and step out throw a left hook on the way out. once coming out usually the tight guard stops and the second hook will land flush
    3) Just a simple double jab right

    I like to throw a jab (while stepping out to the left [orthodox]) followed by a left check hook and pivot off. It's served me pretty good and it's one of my favorite combos. Particularly if a guy is double blocking tight and leaving the outside open. Sometimes I'll throw a few jabs to try to get him to tighten up more.
    I also favor the 1-2-3 ... Also stepping outside on the jab to try to get in line for the 3 to the body and get the hell away from trying to slip outside and eat a 2 from him.

      So if you have a foot work, body and head movement, and punches as a boxer ,and you import your kicks from taekwondo , roundhouse from Thai box you not gonna go wrong. But that's only my opinion, and I'm nobody. Good luck!
