Hi. Thanks for the tips. Should you ever choose to use tape again, I use my old wooden spools and wind the tape on that. Easy to store in my traveling sewing case. :)

hello again,I started the sewing of anything last year about this time,so happy anniversary to me. anyhoo,I watched you and the flat back stitch even before I even tried basting hexagons. fast forward a year,and I am now putting 2 inch hexagons together using your tutorial. I knew back then that I had found the right way for me as I don't like to see the stitces showing in the joins like the other one, although 18 hexagons sewn together don't make me proficient by any means, it seems to me that as they get weightier, they get easier to hold. I just get a firm grip and hold on tight,the house can burn down,I am not letting go.the left thumb feels it after a bit. but it is so weird what one can be afraid of .I am scared to cut fabric with the rotary cutter. I tear it,no dramas for me there but doing these hexagons makes me happy.tell me though,what does one do with papers that are trying to escape too early?? long comment hey?.more like a novel.just wanted to let you know in how great a capacity,you have helped me in the last year. so happy to have found you.
Hello Jan, First let me say thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. So glad this stitch is working out for you. When some of the papers try and "escape" I just glue them back in. If it keeps happening you can just leave them out. But like I say the papers are there to support and stabilize so leaving them in as long as possible is best. :) K

I still sometimes see on the front where I’ve started on a corner join, probably I’m tired, I’m still doing the same quilt, millefiori, which I once sent a picture to you, you advised me and I’ve carried on to nearly a Queens sized quilt. I learnt to use the finger pad thimble too, saved a lot of pain! The stars drove me bonkers, but I’m sad I’ve nearly finished. I have such a stash, so better search for a new design, grateful thanks. Hi there. I know this is an older post but if you’re still doing epp and flat back I’m curious how you handle flat back and larger quilts. I’m working on Alchemy with 1” hexis. But as the quilt is getting bigger I’m struggling to use flat back. Any hints?? Thanks!
I purchased the sew tight and the plastic pallet. I’m not sure how to use the pallet. I’ve watched their videos, but I still don’t understand. Can you help? Thank you.
Hello Jip, It works much like any other stitch. As the quilt gets bigger it becomes a little harder top because the top get heavier. But this is true no matter what stitch you use. As the top gets bigger I start to take the papers out. Hope that helps.

Travis I have a white/cream, light cool grey, light warm grey, and a dark grey. For the most part I only use the light greys which are light to medium. And that is it just the four colors.

Annie we use 67 lb paper that is like a cardstock with a little texture so the glue sticks but also releases when you need it. we also use paper that uses some recycled paper as well.
@@thequiltkitco Was wondering the same thing. Here in Europe it's gsm, so a common weight is 140 lb = 300 gsm, so your paper/card is approx 150 gsm? not seen that weight around but will look. I have watercolour paper, textured, at 140 lb and also 90 lb?
Cinthia I don't starch. I haven't tried that but I think it would add resistance trying to push your needle through the fabric. I'd be interested to hear how it goes if you try it.
One thing you could do to make your tape more portable is either use washi tape, or, wrap a small amount of painter’s tape around a paper clip and throw it in your purse or sewing kit 😃

I stitch in smaller segments then stitch those groups together.

Still looks like a whipstitch to me. You are just holding the fabric out. The tape is a handy idea.
