  • Hello, this video is all about EPP, fussy cutting, odd-shaped hexagons, and a very talented woman called Lucy Boston.
She lived in one of the oldest continuously inhabited homes in the UK. I've found a video on UA-cam if you'd like to know more.
    • Video
Lucy Boston was a patchwork maker and her specialty was EPP, particularly optical illusions created by fussy cutting and hexagons.
I did find a website selling pre-cut papers

Hi everyone glad you're still enjoying this video, just for clarification the link to the Etsy shop is not my shop! I make my own papers but I thought a link to buy them would be really helpful, I am not affiliated in any way with the Etsy shop. Happy sewing 😊

Yes U have inspired me, I have everything I need 2 start but just needed the know how and U gave it 2 me this Autumn morning here in New Zealand watching U on Utube when I woke up and saw Lucy Boston's name pop up, so I watched and now just having breakfast and thinking on William Morris fabrics or French General. Ohhhhhh am I going 2 have fun, thank U ever so much in waking my brain up 4 action this Friday morning of April 5th 2024, busy head 2day. So maybe after Lucy Boston, Jane Austen is next on my list .
Have fun stitching and cutting, as I will be 2 challenge myself 4 a lap size quilt, so watch out Christmas time here I come .
    Best in stitching.
    Cheers Crisy

I know this is a 2 yr old video but I just stumbled upon this video. I am a beginner EPP. Just starting out playing around with making several different shapes and practicing sewing together a couple at a time. I have a lot to learn but have been completely mind blown by this video. I love the way you piece shapes together to make such beautiful pieces. I would love to see you do a video on how you choose your fabrics and how you envision your Kalidescope shapes. IT IS AMAZING!!! I have never seen anyone do EPP like this. I am not fond of the stereotypical Hexagon flowers. Thank you for such a wonderful video. WOW.

These are so beautiful, and all easy enough to make if you know how to pick the right fabrics and remember your geometry and design. I've always shied away from border prints and stripes. They are the perfect example of why we need to practice design. It's back drafting. Eleanor you are so talented and your Mom too.

I just found this video the other day the blocks are amazing. I brought some fabric to have a go with. I have photocopied it and cut out various hexagons so I can play around with different areas of the design workout actually cutting in to my fabric. It is amazing how many designs you can get from one piece of fabric.

Tip: if you flat-stitch the pieces together you can be even more accurate and no threads show. If you make a correct finished sized template from a clear plastic sheet you can permanent pen key points of the design on it matching the shape perfectly on the wrong side of the fabric. Then you can biro round the shape precisely, no exact seam is required and the paper liner for piecing can fit perfectly within the biro line, and no need to stitch through the card. This approach is a very comfortable approach especially when stitching together large pieces and quilts. PS. Love your work, well done.

What a great video. I have just ordered some of these paper pieces so that I can start a Lucy Boston quilt. I realise now that it’s going to take time but that’s the point of EPP. I have only sewn normal hexagons before so it’s very useful to watch you constructing and joining the ‘church window’. I haven’t tried fussy cutting but you have inspired me to have a go. Thanks for all you advice.
