I just got this amp recently, and I love it! I do agree with all of the tips you gave here. The only thing I'll add, however, is it is such a noisy amp (more than most I have tried). That said, the biggest help it needs, in my opinion, is a good gate. Something that goes through both the front end and FX loop preferably utilizing the 4 cable method. After that, along with the tips shared in this video, you are good to go!
I have a newer 5881 loaded MT15 and it is actually pretty quiet for a high gain amp. Have you experimented with cable routing? MT15's seem to be pretty particular with how cables are routed near the transformers. Also the fx loop seems to be a source for some noise issues.
I can't stand running a boost with a high gain amp. Although I understand why people do it. It just isn't my thing. So I have to take a slightly different approach. The MT15 is a funny little amp. The mid-range voicing is wide and round rather than spikey like we are used to on so many modern amps. Coming from 25 years of 5150's this was the hardest thing for me to get used to. And I think why so many players prefer to boost this amp. I run my mids higher than you do, but not much. Right at noon. It brings the body of the amp forward and allows me to raise the highs without getting brittle or harsh. Keep in mind, this is unboosted. You definitely need to get the highs above noon regardless of boost or not. I also tend to run the presence about 1:00 to 1:30. Any higher than that and it tends to get fizzy depending on the gain level. Which I run about 1:30 to 2:00. The fx loop on this amp is a little wacky. I feel like it runs a little hot. I am thinking about trying a lower gain tube for it. I have some feedback issues when running pedals through the loop. No excess noise, just a tendency for feedback. Maybe a 12au7 would help.
I love this amp. I keep up with $2,500 amps and have been told my tone is killer. I run an ISP Decimator and Mason OD 808 in the front, a Noise Gate and BBE Sonic Stomp in the FX Loop and have my Presence, Low, Mids, High and Gain knobs at 6 (1 o’clock); I have ESP ltd EC guitars with Seymour Duncan passive pickups, two PRS MT 1x12 with Eminence DV-77 speakers. Easiest, cheapest and best sound I’ve ever had. You tweet the lows and highs with the tone knob on the 808 and the knobs on the BBE.
I absolutely love this amp! For it is size category, hands down the best, in my opinion. I don't own one (yet) but I have had friends that did and got to hear and play through. Thanks for the video, as always!!
Nice demo dude, I put a 50W output transformer in mine and a pair of SovTek 5881 power tubes - will never sell it, sick little amp, keep up the good videos.
Thank you for your time in making these UA-cam videos. You really help alot of people finding gear especially myself. Quick? Getting back into playing guitar after a 10 year lay off. Play nu metal and have a $2500 budget. Looking for a 4x12 and amp setup. Used gear out of the question were I live. Looking to play small to medium sized bars. U got me thinking Mesa 4x12os and PRS mt15. What would you recommend how would spend $2500 on a amp and cab?
I'm just wondering, did you keep the Ceriatone Molecular or did you sell it? I'm trying to figure out if I should buy one or not. I've seen your demos & it sounds great as always but I'm skeptical if it measures up to the hype. What would you consider the moleculars greatest strengths & weaknesses? Thanks so much! I enjoy watching your content. I'll be sure to like and subscribe!!
Thanks for commenting and subscribing. To your question.... I ended up selling it about a year ago. It's a good amp, it just lacked the aggression that I typically go for. Strengths- well made amp sounds good. Has a nice "mainstream " sound to it. "Weaknesses" - needs more aggression for modern metal (if that's your thing) If you have lower output pickups, it might not have enough gain for you.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thanks for your comment! This will help to narrow down what my basic needs are. I'm looking for something between a Dual Rec & JCM 800. When I heard this, I thought I found those qualities but I'll probably need more gain based on your impressions. Also, Can't wait for you to demo the MT100 when PRS finally releases the darn thing! 😆 Thanks, again.
@@thebostonguitarist7886 My pleasure. Glad to help. I can't wait to review that amp as well. It seems like it's taking forever for it to come out though. Regarding your amp choices.. have you considered a REVV GENERATOR MKIII? That amp has the jcm 800 type tones in the green channel while having a big, fat , aggressive, better voiced version of a dual rwc in the Purple and Red channels
@@TONEWARSgearshow I have not considered a REV GEN. III until now, that thing sounds amazing! I think there's a local dealer near Boston. I'll have to check it out soon. Can't wait for the video, your demos are the best because they cover everything from top to bottom. It's not easy to find demos with attention to detail, you do that well. Thanks, again.
I have yet to use a volume boost for any of my solos. Typically, whatever channel I'm using for a solo, I just dial the volume up a little bit. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.
A EQ pedal will work just fine. I have been using the revv tilt eq pedal. On one side is the tilt eq, with a high pass filter you can use or not. And a clean boost opinion. It's much faster to eq then a 10 band eq pedal. But the volume boost is on the other side of the pedal. It's a lite distortion, with treble, bass, distortion, and volume. I turn the bass, and treble at noon with almost no distortion, but turn the volume up to get that boost. It's a really good pedal. I did use a compression pedal. Basically putting no compression on my amp but using the make up volume to boost the volume. They all work just depends what your looking for.
Hey man appreciate the comparison videos! I just got the MT15 with an EVH 5150 iii 2x12 that has the Celestion G12H anniversary speakers. What pedals would you recommend to go with it? I’m now to pedals so for now the only one I’ve got is an Empress Heavy Menace but not sure I like it with this. What boost/OD, etc would you recommend for this setup? And how was the mud killer compared to others?
Congratulations on the new gear I'd recommend either the mud killer or grid slammer for od pedals (crank the tone knob on the grid slammer) If you play solos, get the Flashback 2 delay pedal
@@TONEWARSgearshow Also sorry a few more questions . You’re running the overdrive on the lead channel not clean right? What’s your signal chain? Not every single pedal, but the boosts, overdrives, etc. And I zoomed in on your board and did I see a TC Electronic Dreamscape? I’ve been looking into that one but haven’t pulled the trigger on it.
@@alexbraun7069 I put all of the drive pedals in front of the amp and all of the modulation in time based effects in the effects loop The dreamscape is my favorite chorus pedal, it's amazing, the flanger it has in it is also very good
Considering you can get an MT15 for $400 used and do the 50w mod and have essentially a rectifier tone for dirt cheap there’s no reason to get the MT15.

I use a cheap donner noise killer in front.
@@BazonBlades I agree just picked up mine also the new 5881 and it is extremely quiet even using several pedals in the loop.
