Thanks for the shout out! Just a little clarification on the tour for Surveillance. Rik did three shows to satisfy some debts, and by that time Rik had already said he was going solo. Part of the reason Rik didn’t talk to Gil and Mike was because he was not paid for the final shows as promised.
Interesting and intriguing. Indeed. Indubitably. I did not know that. It’s a shame that they couldn’t keep it together just a little longer. Too bad Rik couldn’t have had a solo career AND still have been a member of Triumph simultaneously. Once l finish my new Siskel & Ebert book, l will begin reading the Rik autobiography. I’m really looking forward to devouring it. After that, the giant Geddy Lee tome is up! Thanks for your support!
Great video love a bit of Triumph but need to listen to more of their later albums. Interesting thing is their first 2 albums actually got released in Australia on blue Attic labels through a local company called Astor records, they were famous for our native Kiss releases aswell. The only early album I don't own in an Australian pressing is Just A Game have an og Canadian press tho, it definitely exists as someone showed me pics of one I have just never seen it in the wild.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Mr. Philip. I appreciate it. Their last three albums with Rik just happen to hit a certain sweet spot with me, personally. While the latter two might be seen as too refined, polished and commercial by many diehard fans, it WAS the eighties. Sometimes, if you don’t “play the game,” you lose your chance to compete at all. Although there are what l would call “record company concessions” made by the band; there are STILL good, hard rock tunes by the band on both The Sport of Kings and Surveillance. (“Play with the Fire” and “Rock You Down” come to mind.) As Rik Emmett so succinctly stated in 1979, “It’s Just a Game, and all I can do is play.” Cheers!
I also went through the Triumph catalog last year when Rik's book came out (which was a very interesting read). As far as rankings, I used our Underlords ranking system and was surprised at where Progressions of Power landed. It may not have the highlights that other albums have, but I think it has a good consistency. Other than that, my rankings came in mostly as I would have guessed. 10. Edge of Excess 9. Surveillance 8. The Sport of Kings 7. Rock and Roll Machine 6. In the Beginning 5. Never Surrender 4. Progressions of Power 3. Allied Forces 2. Just a Game 1. Thunder Seven We disagree about "Rock You Down" on Surveillance. I think it's arguably one of the dumbest things ever recorded by anyone, haha! If I do a ranking video I'll probably have to do it without my other Underlords colleagues as none of them probably want to take the time to join in! Shame, really, as Triumph, while often slathered in Velveeta, has some outstanding material. Anyway, the Rock & Roll Machine documentary is fantastic as well!
@@underlordsuniverse7823 ~ Thanks for watching and commenting, my Iowan musical maven buddy! I’m currently reading Rik’s book - along with a few others - until l finally get to Geddy’s tome. If memory serves, our top three are quite similar. I have a huge affinity for the last three Rik albums, since that’s where l came into the catalog. I don’t mind some of their more pop-leaning proclivities, although certain songs are better than others. “Rock You Down” turned out to be a HUGE bone of contention between Rik on one side and Gil & Mike on the other. Apparently, after Rik left the studio, Gil & Mike revamped the song, much to Rik’s chagrin. I’m sure that was the final nail in the coffin for Mr. Emmett and ushered him out the door, for many years. You should friend request me on Facebook, so we can talk about a possible video collaboration in the near future. Cheers from the east coast!
That greatest hits is Remixed by Gil …so the drums are cranked up loud …I like the original versions …but these r very clear remixes …another cool vid by you ..the detail helps as u r discussing the song w/ detail …rock on ..do A Rush ranking ..if ur into them …it’s always interesting
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m a big Rush fan and will definitely be doing a Rush Album Show AND a Top Twelve Tunes show on them in 2025. Cheers!
@@christianpoint0888 ~ Thanks for watching, Mr. Point. It’s definitely mentioned and ranked, since it’s an official album from the Canadian power trio. I even stated where guitarist Phil X - from the Edge of Excess CD 💿 - eventually ended up, well after his somewhat short stint with Triumph. Cheers!
@@christianpoint0888 ~ No worries. If you’d like to see my top tunes by them, please let me know here. I’ll point you to the proper channel l did a show about it on. Thanks!
Hello fellow Dave! I’m not sure l know what you mean, l ranked and mentioned all of Triumph’s official studio albums. I did not mention every single live album or compilation album, since l wasn’t ranking those. I’m not sure what album you’re referring to, unless it’s an import from another country, that was released under a different name. What record do you mean? Thanks.

I personally love Triumph's "Lay it on the Line" from the album "Just a Game". Great video! Keep them coming!
Thanks! Will do! Thank you for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Agree with you about Thunder 7. It was something else..smoked all the other albums...

Continuing the Triumph trend!!!
Yes, indeed… indubitably. While l had the bulk of my physical merchandise out and available, l figured why the heck not!
I would put Sport of Kings and Surveillance lower but it depends when you came in. Agree with Thunder Seven. Phenomenal album and saw that tour.
