    Really great video, I always appreciate how you can adjust your close ups so we can really see how the metal moves. Also... Sam sitting motionless while you run around at super speed was hilarious

    That's a hug hammer to swing. That'll tire out even Paul Bunion. Lol Wasn't able to hear Joe last night. Ended up fast forwarding through it to see if it cleared up. Ended up way past the interview. Thanks Alec for doing all the massive video work.

    for folks who haven't got the frame of reference on how much arm strength Alec has, forging a twelve pound sledge is like flipping around a gallon jug of milk with tongs. only it'll burn you for mistakes.

    What type of steel do you use for your hammers?

  • @jaredr2374
    @jaredr2374 7 років тому

    Curious, what advantages does a hand forged hammer have over a store-bought mass produced one? Besides the obvious: esthetics and authenticity. I.e. does the metal have better properties? Stronger?

    • @cameronknowles1809
      @cameronknowles1809 7 років тому

      Jared R you can choose the type of steel and how hard or how soft you want it to be

    What is the benefit of fullering?

    • @agustinvenegas5238
      @agustinvenegas5238 7 років тому

      Same question ⬆ does fullering do anything to maintain structural integrity of its it just looks?

    • @workingwithiron
      @workingwithiron 7 років тому

      Fullering moves metal to where you need it with maximum metal displacement with minimum distortion to the work piece.

    • @NotSure177
      @NotSure177 7 років тому

      Yes that's how it works, but that's not what we're asking. What is the benefit, if any compared to a straight hammer? Why fuller a hammer?

    It seems that the floor around the machines need to be lowered or machines raised? I bet you would be less of an awkward angle I know you're young but seeing you crouch around like that hurts my back LOL

  • @Rickemann
    @Rickemann 7 років тому +1

    Why to have those "cheeks"? Is those just for the looks? You seem to do them almost on every hammer or sledgehammer.

    • @error_9453
      @error_9453 6 років тому

      Rickemann i know I’m late but it increases the surface contact to the handle making it harder for the head to slip off potentially
