I've Owned A 2021 Ram TRX For 6 Months - But Is It REALLY The Apex Predator Off-Road Truck?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- ( tfltruck.com/ ) What better way to celebrate six months with the Ram TRX than to take it on an off-road trip! But there's a burning question we need to answer: Is the Ram TRX still the undisputed king of off-road trucks, or is the honeymoon period over?

My dream truck. This will be my first choice when I win the lottery. No lambos, no ferraris, just a TRX. Until then, I’ll keep drooling over it on UA-cam.
Just get a second job and you can pay for it! You can do it. I believe in you.
1 in 14 million win so good luck 👍
Why wait for the lottery when you can buy Game Stop? lol
@@hotrod7603 I drive a Ford now. I said if I win the lottery. You think I would care about something breaking if I won the lottery? I would buy a trx and do donuts around a raptor.
@@MikeyisNinja good idea. I’m going to buy some now
The oil companies would like to extend a special thanks to you.
Right now there thanking everyone 🤣
So would the BEV/CCP lithium producers, since gas hogs are what pay for their carbon credits.
You mean the oil companies that keep the American economy moving with providing fuel for planes, transportation of goods and power for homes? Shouldn’t we thank the oil companies.
Thanks to Biden
@@LBCosmicConcerns Yeah, who needs a livable planet, anyway, right? Let's just go extinct.
My dad and I road-tripped this truck from Atlanta to Palm Springs California. Was fantastic on the highway. It's been a blast in the Southern California desert.
Is it able to withstand rough roads or not? Please reply. Thank you.
Yes but it’s been a nightmare. All kinds of QC and mechanical issues. Stay away.
@@jefftidwell77 Thank you so much man 🤍
Good to know that 6 months of ownership it has not had any issues. But then, one would expect 0 issues with a brand new vehicle for at least 3 years unless one is purposely abusing it past its design limits.
Enter their Defender 😂
Tommy is so hell bent on arguing with his dad that he was arguing exactly the same point lol. Gotta love working with family! In the end they both disagreed until they both used the same terms to describe it! I love you guys!
What a great video and unbiased review. Thank you! I’m so glad you’re keeping the Ram until you can get the new Raptor for comparison. You guys are awesome
It looks like someone cleaned the front instrument cluster with a rock.
Made me laugh 🤣
TBF it seems most manufacturers these days use some ridiculously soft plastic.
As some that owns a 905 awhp Trackhawk and has a TRX on order; I must agree, the Hellcat is a great motor!
Wow ur awsome!!!!
This is absolutely the best truck to hit the market known to mankind as of yet, even Scotty can't hate on it
You guys are becoming my fave UA-cam reviewers. Thanks for doing what you do.
Awesome truck, cool vid. If my local dealer didn't have a $30k markup, I would've bought one. Got the Power Wagon 75th anniversary edition instead.
I have missed this amazing mountain trails videos
Please stay tuned. More mountain vids coming soon.
11 mpg actually doesn't sound to bad. I had a 2wd Regular cab ram in college with 5.9 engine and it got 11 mpg. Granted that was 20 years ago, it was also a much lighter truck with smaller tires and 2wd.
I love your quote at 15:07, "We've had zero issues..."! Really? Amazing! One would think for $80,000 you better have zero issues. 7000 miles? Shoo doggie! If I paid that much for a truck it better have ZERO ISSUES for a bit longer than 7000 miles.
...hard to tell, since it spent more time doing senseless drag races, rather than actually being in its element.
'Bout time.
Colorado is beautiful we will definitely be making a trip there again next summer. Till then y’all enjoy it!
I use my TRX as a daily driver and absolutely love it! ...and no it didn't turn my garage from a 2 car to a 1 car garage....I have a standard 2 car garage for my area and we park the TRX and a Tahoe in it with no problem....On trails I use my surround camera and it works great...you can actually drag the surround camera icon down to the menu you bar and instantly pop it up when you need it....as a daily driver it puts a smile on my face everyday....even when I'm going the speed limit..:)....thanks for this video....great to see the TRX in that location.
Awesome video, love the TRX. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Loving mine! Coming from my C8 and Tesla P100D, this truck is good at everything! Hauls 5 people in comfort, can hang with a lot of fast cars or flat out beat them off the line, it can tow, it can haul stuff around. But the MPGs do suck. My C8 for example easily gets 30MPG cruising on the hwy, or 18MPG city.
Interesting that you went from a Tesla to a vette to a TRX
I have a TRX and Tesla M3 Performance as well. Tesla is a great daily driver
Been off line for quite a while this is the first full video I've watched great job like the honesty Tommy will be the number one reveiwer in vehicles soon thanks great work
I’m surprised you get double digits on MPG with that engine. We had, until recently, a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L, and we were only getting 9-10 MPG in the city. It did a little better on the highway….17-18 MPG. But with an added Borla exhaust, I gotta tell ya, its hard to keep your foot off the pedal. They sound SO GOOD. Beautiful truck Roman. Looks and sounds great.
Hahahaha yeah, its kinda funny…when you achieve the peak, not a lot to look at. Colorado is such a nice place. Your lucky guys to have that at your back door.
I would like to see Tommy's new Jeep off road!
It's great seeing you happy Roman😂! As far as all the "faults" with the TRX, I am 100% Ok with them all. It's simply what happens when you get everything you could want in a factory production pickup especially staying under the 100K price point. TY RAM AND TFL!
♥️🤍💙🇺🇲🦅
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. The drone shots are beautiful.
Just for reference, the TRX is wider than my (RIP) H1 Hummer. I had no issues driving my H1 in the city but others might.
Really liked the angles of the video capture and quality this time. 👍
This is more of an unboxing video than a performance video, I understand you don't want to rag out your own vehicle, but real trail conditions would fully change this test significantly.
The TRX has become my dream vehicle! A note to a couple of your comments in the video I don't want those extra "safety" features that you talked about if someone wants them fine but they should be an option NOT standard.
I developed the machining process for those shocks, specifically the manifold section where the hoses are attached 👍👍
Just took my stock 2010 f150 king ranch up webster pass, no real challenge but one of the most beautiful trail that I love
I still don't think this is "king of the beasts". I do think it is king of the drag strip, but this TRX and the Raptor both preform amazingly off-road
As a truck it's fast for sure, and everyone can respect that, but personally what i don't respect is the title of Off-road King that was given to this truck simply because of that, nothing it has done has surpassed the Raptor in the context of the Off-road King title, let alone some even tend to say the title "Super Truck" doesn't exactly fit here either.
As a 2015 F-150 5.0 owner, I love everything about this truck. Is Ram going to do anything about that Hemi “tick”? That would drive me crazy.
Hey Roman, could we get more “Sound of Music” hilltop spins in future videos? 😂 Love your content, keep up the great work.
Dang'it you stole my joke 😂
Love this truck!
Next time please take it somewhere to get stuck. There should be a trial, which stock Prius can't do.
If It wasn't for fords fleet sales id say Ram is the leader in truck sales by far...switching from Ford too Ram a couple years ago ....Id say the Ram is a better Built more reliable comfortable truck ..
Might be better looking. Definitely not more reliable. I own both
@@sleepyta i own both as well. Neither of them had a single problem. Rams interior design and interior build quality is completely unmatched though.
@@sleepyta that's your opinion but I've had both as well and the new Ram is more reliable and I suggest looking it up!!
@@Crusaderhun agreed. Their interior is still the best. And it's not even close
@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS do you own a new Ram?
My neighbor bought one just because he’s a Mopar guy and the TRX came with a gear shift lever, he loves everything except for the engine, he says it’s too powerful 😂😂😭
Tell him to drive it in valet mode.
@@scarroll625 okieedokiee
Too powerful is an oxymoron
I like this thing. What would be interesting for me though, I’d the same suspension and track but with a normal engine that doesn’t get 11mpg on high test. I don’t care about drag racing my trucks.
Gotta admit it’s freaking cool tho
Have to agree. Would love an “appearance pack”. Dodge did it with the chargers and challengers. I’m pretty sure you can get a widebody V6 these days so it may trickle down the lineup.
You’re hired! Welcome to the FCA marketing team.
Maybe just a normal 392
It only matches raptor with the hellcat. It would suck with only 450 gp
Here in BC (Canada) premium gas is currently about $1.75/litre - which works out to $5.30 US/Gal after exchange. Far more expensive. I find it funny that they're complaining about premium being $4/gal lol - that's so cheap!
This may sound crazy but I still think the Raptors is a better off-road truck for all around definitely for in town .but because of its weight and size I just believe it gets around better

Is it off-road capable my friend or not?
Yeah I would love to have one of these one day. A friend of my in laws just got a brand new on, fully loaded. It's a gorgeous truck.
Best looking pickup I've ever seen. Who would have thought?
@@krane15 not me. I think Ram has really stepped their game up over that last several years. I have a 2016 ram. I never thought I would be in one. Of course it has its flaws but what truck doesn't?
I grew up wheeling that mountain. Great video!
Oof, I don't know if I could swallow that price. So basic at $77k! I have a Laramie and for ~$65k all-in I have a rear locking diff, 35" K02s, 6" lift, the 12" screen, blind-spot-monitoring, adaptive cruise control, 360/front camera, passive entry, remote start, 3.92 gears, and 60% of the TRX's insane power.
These are more like $90k before dealer markups. A guy I work with just got one, $103k OTD.
If you correctly set up the side mirrors, no vehicles have blind spots..., the problem is most set them up to look down the side of the vehicle, which is always there! What appears in the right of the rear view mirror should appear in the left of the side mirror, then before that vehicle leaves the side mirror, it will appear beside you. It does take time to get used to but it does work.
Absolutely loved the scenery in this video
How many issues should you have at 7k miles?
I have the 2019 rebel with 70k miles. 0 issues. I love it!
We know Ram tested the TRX in the dunes, I think TFL needs to also. Road trip to sand hollow!!!
If I bought one I would convert / tune it to run on E85, the fill ups would be a lot less painful, but a little more frequent with 900hp lol
Just in case its not clear, the RAM TRX is a play vehicle. Its not meant to be practical or fuel efficient, its mean to have fun in, but still more practical than a pure sports car. After all, when you go out to dinner you don't consider that you can eat at home for 1/3 as much. Going out is a about the enjoyment, irrespective of cost. In any event, when it comes to rock climbing, it really could use that forward facing camera.
I'm kinda torn between TRX, Rivian R1T, and Cybertruck. Would love to see you guys compare as the two electric trucks roll out...
I laugh when people say “when you buy a vehicle like this you don’t care about the mpg” Even if you are rich, gas mileage will hurt you on this.
You guy's have provided RAM a great service for the TRX. I hope RAM has shown their appreciation to you guy's in some. I'm not a fan of Chrysler products because of their poor quality control but RAM definitely hit a homerun with the TRX.
Nothing wrong with hryslers quality control.
So sick of that bs diatribe
Stop reading magazines and garbage outlets online. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Chrysler and it’s quality control. Your ignorance is overwhelming and frankly tiring.
@@moparproud3978 awwwww, little snowflake got triggered!
Wish you guys could still do the old truth or dare trail. Get a true comparison to what the other off-road pickups were capable of. Most CUVs could go up the trail in this video. When you did the Raptor and TRX side by side desert it was pretty much a tie suspension wise. Of course the TRX was the better powered vehicle.
That’s not bad! My 2017 PowerWagon on 35s averaged around the same😂🤷🏼♂️
That veiw with drone is amazing
Even panned out in the drone the TRX still looks like a monster lol
I like what RAM is doing. I am not brand loyal. Ford lovers will pick a Ford no matter what, same for Toyota followers. The TRX is the 'super truck' for enjoyment and fun. The Gladiator is the truck for off-road fun.
gladiator lol
Very good review. The TRX looked like it did very well during the climb, as well as the 7,000 miles you put on it! It's a bit over my level in terms of pricing, but I would LOVE to own one! Thanks for the review.
I own a 2016 ram 1500 big horn / laramie with 3.6l with 70k miles and works fine
Jeez, and here I am happy my 2011 ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi is getting 11 mpg in the city
I have a ram with a 5.9 magnum and it barely gets better fuel economy for 1/3 of the power of the TRX. I'd be happy with that fuel economy if I had that powertrain.
Anybody that considers fuel economy with this vehicle, means this isn't the truck for them.
Awesome truck! 7k miles isn't exactly any indication of reliability but it's still awesome.
Simple rule: If you don’t want to scratch your truck, don’t go off road.
It is not a $77K dollar truck. Its a $47k truck with $30k in engine and suspension upgrades. If they want more tech then buy the options. If the truck came standard with all the tech it would be 90k. and they would bitch it doesnt come with a cheaper base model.
It actually has a different frame if I remember correctly. Lets be real though the markup on the features and creature comforts are outrageous these days. Financing is too easy to get and people only look at that monthly payment if they can "afford" it.
@@ryanmartinage After the point about the frame, everything you said was a total non sequitur.
@@nukewiller4083 Was saying that to show where the inflation of the price comes from. There's reasons why they dont build stripped down enthusiast trims. Everyones willing to buy the fluffed up versions.
@@ryanmartinage I never would've guessed that they're charging for more because people want more.
@@nukewiller4083 He has no point.
I have no idea why you ordered it without some of the upper end features that would make it nicer as a daily driver.
That red is the perfect colour for this truck
It’s gotta be hard for tommy to off road the trx because he’s so used to smaller vehicles so he can’t really “know” how wide it is
Wish you guys would bring back the dude I love or hate my new ride.
my Canadian fella can be found on his Truck King channel!
He can't leave Canada so he can only manage his channel.
Had mine since April.
I disagree with Tommy’s opening statements on power and perception. More isolated than a Challenger or GC Trackhawk, more refined, which could have some impact on viciousness quotient. However, from stoplight to stoplight, compared to Challenger and Charger Hellcats, TRX is faster. Tommy knows this, so be sure to dissect his comments.
Hennessy also did baseline testing against C8 at Texas elevation, and TRX logged consistently faster times in stoplight-to-stoplight framework.
Thanks for the video guys 🤝!
Thanks for the TRX update. Loav the channel.
We all need to enjoy this. These trucks won't be around much longer. I doubt if we'll see a second gen TRX much less a third.
Where have we come to when needing to press a button to unlock the doors is a negative.
I love this truck. Tommy is spot on. With the TRX it is amazing off-road, but its width, weight, and length limit you to certain lines.
As far as towing/hauling...this truck isn't built for towing/hauling. Lol. It isn't a regular 1/2 ton.
The front drive shaft is only 8 bolts. Just saying it would be cool to see a trx burnout.
I bet the truck would go into limp mode. It would probably shut the fun down.
Nice, now we'll have every full sized truck in Colorado doing narrow single track passes, thanks. You know a full sized ram just rolled on black bear today right?
That moment when your mpg is loosing to a Tundra😬😂
7:18 if you hit a pedestrian it’s natural selection.
Ray Charles could see that truck coming.
And hear it!
Norman has on a Squatch shirt. Is there a TFLSquatchin' channel? and possible a classical dancing channel hint at the end?
The drone shots reminds me of Top Gear ⚙, great job!!
I’m wondering if the less violent acceleration is because of torque management (to save the drivetrain) like the Wrangler?
If you guys kept any vehicle this would be it 👌
Did they go down the tight switchbacks on the Grant side or go back down the easy Montezuma side? That's what I was waiting for the whole time was the Grant side to see how the truck handled the sketchy not very wide road.
So, Tommy. The center console shifter is coming to other Rams on next model year? Or
Hats off to the drone operator.
Cool truck for sure. Some of it is about what it can do, some is about where it can take you. Nice video.
My only complaint with these new offroad rigs is trying to figure out all the different gearings, what stiffness and softness is. It is a real headache trying to understand all this
Definitely seems like a farm/ranch/oilfield/construction truck, rather than your kind of off road. Fun video.
How do you go about buying from the factory?
I don’t understand when people buy a truck like the TRX and are concerned about mpg. You’re buying it for all the reasons but quality mpg.
I know this thing got well over 700hp but do you really need that much? I am mean going offroad is just about taking your time enjoying nature and going wherever the trail goes
The thread name should read "can i drive slower than molasses in a 702 HP vehicle.
I'm not going to lie, that TRX us awesome looking!
Hey roman, you can write a book about your vehicle buying experience... especially the defender.
Is it supposed to be impressive that a vehicle has “zero issues” at 7k miles?
For new development cars... it kinda is
The Defender needed a complete engine replacement after a couple hundred miles...................so yes
@@stevenrogers2457 that should be an extreme disappointment, not a standard which makes 7k impressive.
From my experience, having owned quite a few new vehicles, problems in the first few thousands miles tell you a lot about quality control and craftsmanship. If you have no initial quality issues, then the thing was screwed together correctly. Long-term is something else, going to design and testing of the product, but that's not going to be known for a while.
@@Drrrre It's very impressive for a brand new segment of vehicle. The TRX is new from the ground up made to compete with the Raptor. These guys have beat on this thing without so much as a hiccup, I'd call that impressive
Great reviews gentlemen I love that TRX. I have one question, what have you been seeing on the TRX related to markup over MSRP if any...... The Banks Boys
That red is just beautiful
Love my TRX!
Totally right on the features trucks should have. Make it standard and your economies of scale have an impact. Should have Auto Unlock with the key, adaptive cruise, lane keep and blind spot monitoring standard. Unless you’re buying a work truck then it’s your call.
My 4 years Old Ford Everest 3.2 Can do this Too ❤️
What rail system is that you installed?
Love the shirt Roman!
