Good morning Kelly! It's Kelly! ; ) Lol I make body products and this is a great recipe. Got a couple of tips for everyone... After the balms "cool", you might encounter a small hole in the center of of the tube or they might be not level if you had to top the tube off. You can get a heat gun and lightly go over the tops to melt it and it will give you a really professional look. Next tip...For doing a larger quantity, you can get a rubber band and put it around all the tubes to hold them together before filling. It makes it a lot easier to fill so they won't fall over. Ugh! Lol Hope this might help someone! : ) Have an awesome day! Hugs from Texas
teri zachary i prefer Palmers coco butter lip balm. I tried burts bees an it dries out my lips so i stopped using it after i found palmers coco butter lip balm it glides on my lips making them soft an smooth.
Great video!! My only tip is to not add the essential oil until the end, after you've taken the pot off the heat. Essential oils are volatile and you loose the health benefits of the oil if you heat it. Thanks for sharing!!
Agreed on adding the Essential Oils OFF the heat. A slower melt on the double boiler too.....a gentle heat will melt in about the same time. Maybe a few seconds more.... You give great info, ideas, etc.. I enjoying watching & learning from you! Thanks Kelly!! 💜💌💔🌹🐾🍀🚚🚦
Dyana Marquez what health benefits lord. All it’s ever been proven to help is stimulate the limbic system in the brain and even then other things that smell strong do that. You’re in a pyramid scheme
Essential oils do not provide health benefits for skin. They are actually harmful to the skin since they are fragrant compounds (natural doesn’t mean safe, and this is a great example of that). Essential oils are simply there to give a pleasant aroma and taste to the balm. Which I fully understand why people would want that. I just wanted to clarify that essential oils are not beneficial to the health of the skin at all (like many blogs state). Now, there are antioxidant and calming properties to some, like lavender oil for example, but you still run into the issue of the fragrant components. So while those beneficial compounds would be beneficial for skin if they existed without the fragrant compounds also in the lavender, the fragrance is still there.
This was awesome! some advice is not to add the essential oil until the end, after you've taken the pot off the heat. Essential oils are volatile and you loose the health benefits of the oil if you heat it. i really enjoyed this video, ive been making these for many years they are great gifts =)
I love making my own lip balm. A trick I use in to turn a styrofoam egg carton upside down and stick your empty tubes in the area the egg goes. It prevents spillage. Love this video!
I just came across this video a week ago. Followed the recipe today… I have it on now and it feels great! Smells great! I would prefer more flavor so next time I will add a little more flavoring. Thank you for sharing!
When I first saw the title chapticks - I thought I don’t want to do that - but of course- now i do. You make us want to do all it. Can’t wait for part 2
I’ve been trying to make chapstick and it comes out pretty soapy. When you buy it and taste it it taste awesome like the flavoring but mine is soapy is it the Shae butter? When tasting shae butter by itself I think that’s the issue. Anyone else?
I’ve been making my lip balms for about 3 years now. One thing I learned was to stay away from using citrus essential oils on skin exposed to the sun. As much as I love white grapefruit and sweet orange EO’s, I do not put them in my lip balms.
sweetangiegirl1 they are for the scent. they can be harsh on the skin if you are allergic or the harsher scents (peppermint, citruses, etc) may not be worth putting on your lips. the softer ones (sage, tea tree, etc) will be nicer to your lips. or you could add the flavoring and that might add a bit of scent, idk because i don’t use flavoring. also the almond and coconut oils are not essential oils, they are like moisturizers.
Great recipes! Ive been doing mine with just coconut oil & the beeswax pellets😊 Love the tip about adding color, going to try that in next batch! theyre so much fun to make & give. hope youre having a great week friend, hugs
Thank you so much for making this video! I got this really cool kit to make my own lip balm! I got the tubes, along with the small round containers. The tubes even came with their own stickers!! I have a ton of flavorings that I bought, when I was making rock candy on a stick!
This is great! I have to make some of these as gifts. Need to pick up the containers and some beeswax. I have all the other ingredients. Thank you so much!
Great recipe!!! Awesome video..... I wasn't confused. May I suggest using a rubberband to secure the chapstick tubes together to prevent tilting or falling over in the fridge.
Hi!!! I'm new to your channel. I can't believe this video is 4 years old and I just saw it. I loved it. I love the way you explained and made it look so easy. THANKS FOR SHARING 😊🥰😊
Hopefully you can answer today cuz I plan on making some today. I have 2 questions. Can I use a regular pot, and can I add sugar for a scrub? When should I add the sugar? I would think it would melt quick
Thank you for this awesome video. Do you know if extracts are ok to use say 100% pure vanilla? I love vanilla lip balm. I just made my 1st batch of 🍊 flavored. We will see.
super easy. i used my pyrex cup and placed it in the oven on low heat until everything melted. i was able to pour it cleanly in the tubes. the funny thing is, a little goes a long way! i easily filled 25 tubes! (i used a little more than you suggested though)
This is a great idea🤗 I work for a after school program and would love to Make this with my Kids. I would like to know How Many tubes can be made from the 2nd recipe.
Awesome, I use Young Living natural oils and make my own soaps, lotions and be wanting to do chap stick. Thank you so much for sharing and Hello fellow oiler..,,I love your DIY's
So, the essential oils are just for fragrance and do not do anything to affect the texture or consistency? What im getting at is that's if I left the essential oils out would I still get a substance that would work as a lip balm and maintain stick shape as long as I don't mash it or anything?
What a great video! And it's great that you offer alternative ingredients so anyone can make the balms. One little thing: be careful when you buy lipsticks from the dollar store: unless you trust the manufacturer, the ingredients as listed may not actually reflect what's actually in the product and may not be good for you. If you are going to make these all the time, there are many places that sell tints and pigments. You use such a tiny amount and you'll know the source of the product. Studies show that women EAT pounds of lipstick and balms a year .... something to think about!
LOVE your version! Now I know what to do with the last little bit of my favorite lipsticks once it’s even with the tube, but you know there is still a ton in there if you take time to scrape it out! Have you ever put extra peppermint in them to see if they will be “plumping”? I may have to try that...lol! Thanks for the recipe& getting my imagination going! (Did the last doctor finally get it right with the Tinea? I’m in bed now & will say an extra special prayer of healing for Ally!) Here are her Hugs 🤗 & Mooches 😘!!
Rebecca Ude I think so they gave her ketoconazole a topical ointment that seems to be clearing it up! It spread a bit more to her wrist and chest before we got this ointment so I think we may have it under control! Praying we do anyway!! Thank you so much for the info the other day and your prayers for her❣️ we’ve been reading so much and it really looks like she may have gotten it from the Guinea pigs that we just adopted!
Kelly Barlow Creations-Praise God!! So happy to hear that! That is the same medicine Jordan gets, just in oral form, & only for 5 days. It can cause liver damage if taken in high doses or for long periods of time, so I’m sure they don’t give the tablet to children except in extreme measures. Did they recommend that the vet treat the Guinea Pigs? You definitely don’t want anyone else catching it! Thank you for updating me! I’ve spent most of my career in the ER so I’ve seen pretty much everything, lol, but I have always prayed for (or with) my patients b/c that is where TRUE healing comes from! Much Indiana love! ❤️🤗😘💖
Oh...FYI-you can check this with her MD of course, but as it starts to really heal & dry out it will probably be more itchy. If your coconut oil from Simply Earth says “virgin” or “unrefined”, you can place that on her itchy areas b/c it is antibacterial & most importantly for Ally, it is anti fungal!!! Just be sure not to use the Butcher Boy you have as it has been refined using heat & that breaks down most all of the good benefits. Organic, cold pressed is best..& I have found brands at Big Lots for a very low price! Use a spoon to get it out so you don’t contaminate the jar & then you can use the leftovers to cook with! It’s very very good for you..it even removes waterproof eyeliner! Ok.. sorry for the super long replies!! Give Ally a hug for me! 🤗
Hey you so sorry I haven't seen this sooner! yes we have an ointment for the Guine pigs now. I handle them every day and so does Kayla and so far neither of us has gotten it, oddly Jeff who does not touch them at all and is at work lately more then he is at home ended up with a spot on his calf of all places and so we took he and Alli both to the new Dermatologist together and they biopsied jeffs leg! I wash my hands a lot during the day especially after touching them! I always try to stay on top of Alli washing her hand after i must have missed it a time or two! her eye dried out terribly and was itching her so badly and so all I could think to put was some aloe without alcohol in it! AHHHH wish I would have seen your message sooner! Alli has a spot on her hand that is now starting to dry out so I will look at my simply earth coconut oil to see if it's the right one! what about unrefined shea butter I have that? I put it in my chapsticks as well and body butters.
Hi sweetie! OK.. I know this is a lot to take in, but it comes down to the fact you’re an AMAZING mom so she will be fine!! If you want to talk on the phone I have no issue w/that & will gladly DM you my # on Instagram! Shea butter is a GREAT moisturizer, & it may help with the itchiness! The only reason I recommend unrefined coconut oil as my #1 is because of it’s anti-fungal & antibacterial properties. So say if you treated Jeff w/unrefined coconut oil, it would most likely heal up his spots w/o needing a prescription medication. Since Alli (SOOO SORRY I’ve been spelling it Ally!!) is already on an prescription cream, the unrefined Shea will help with the itching. Just make sure you clean the affected areas 1st, then apply the anti fungal (the Keto ointment), & let that really sink in a good 10min, then apply the Shea butter. If she doesn’t get any relief from the itching, or you notice any redness/new bumps, etc. STOP the Shea & call the MD. The only problem with some of these “nut” butters is you have to think of them like peanuts. Humans can develop allergies (or lose allergies) @ any point in their lives. You don’t have to be born with an allergy to peanuts (or Shea Nuts). As an example, I had worn latex gloves for @ least 3yrs into my education, then 1 day my hands were itchy, but I washed them so much I didn’t think much of it. Within a week I was noticing little red bumps with the gloves. 2 weeks after I noticed the little itching, I had a full anaphylactic reaction, w/difficulty breathing & hives all over..I had to leave my patient to someone else & I became the patient in the ER. This is why so many medical facilities no longer use any form of latex, b/c w/any allergy, the more you are exposed, the more severe your reaction becomes. NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU!! Shea Butter/Oil is a great product!! Just be aware if Alli complains of extra itching or develops new red bumps after multiple uses, don’t blow her off...I’ve seen this w/Jojoba oil users! A wife or husband thinks the other is overreacting, when really, they are having an allergic reaction, lol! I know hearing this makes you want to put your kids in a bubble, but I want you to know the facts!! Like I said, I will gladly give you my number, but since your Shea is unrefined you shouldn’t have any issues @ all! FYI, your local children’s hospital should have a toll free, 24/7 number where you can speak to a registered pediatric nurse for advice, & I always recommend this service to anyone!! I’m not ped’s specific, but the offer to give you my # is always there!! 🤗💕😘
Just an FYI you should allow the oils and beeswax to cool a little bit before you add in the essential oils because if you put essential oils in when it's boiling like that it actually depletes the oil and scorches it not exactly that but that's the best way for me to describe it just in case you're wondering

I don't use essential oils. I made my own lip balms with whatever I had and they're still good. 😁
Beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil, vitamin E oil.

Just an FYI you should allow the oils and beeswax to cool a little bit before you add in the essential oils because if you put essential oils in when it's boiling like that it actually depletes the oil and scorches it not exactly that but that's the best way for me to describe it just in case you're wondering
Can we use normal wax and add the honey to make it safe for the skin??
I want to make this for xmas gifts for aunts and friends. do you need to add essential oils? i have all the ingredients but essential oils
Amazing
How much water did you use. This was a good idea
The water is under the bowl. took me a minute to realize that
