I completely enjoy your videos as they are both educational, your opinions are yours and not held up by sponsorship money. I do think it should be noted though that almost all "brown spirits" produced in the world are adulterated in some way. This includes Cognac, Armagnac,Canadian whiskey, Irish Whiskey, blended american whiskey, virtually all Scotch, US made brandy and so on. The Compass Box is totally unadulterated as are all Bourbons and Tennessee Whiskey as required by US law. All the color in Bourbon and Tennessee whiskey comes from the barrel. As almost all other brown spirits are not required to use brand new barrels, their is very little color gained from the barrel and very little flavor. It seems that micro oxygenation is the main goal. The Cognac makers add caramel, oak extract and sugar. They are also allowed to add vanilla if they want. All of it is allowed under French law as cognac is the most regulated distilled spirit in the world. US brandy and blended whiskey makers are also allowed a small % called rectification by the US Treasury. They can add color, sugar and vanillin if the desire. Very, very few don't as is the case with almost all brown spirits. Most that don't are artisan such as Compass Box.Most folks who see an unadulterated Cognac or Scotch are blown away as I was. Keep up the good work!
Whenever I hear the word Peat, My nose crinkles up. That 'aroma' is so potent to me. You say burnt rubber, but I find it reminds me of new adhesive bandage. I cannot get past it to really enjoy the scotch underneath. Oh I can force myself to have some, but enjoying it just is beyond me. I will save my money and get the Highlands variety, rather than those offering of Islay. Some folks just love that smokey flavor, and I salute you.... but with Dalmore or Glenmorangie .
+PCShogun Luckily I enjoy almost everything for various reasons. I'm the same way with food. I can find the good in most things. That being said, I'm looking g forward to my eventual episode on Laphroig
Yes, and I enjoy hearing you speak of these whiskeys. Many folks drink whiskey and think I am odd because I nose the glass before drinking. I explain that it helps my appreciation of it, and frankly, if you are going to pay $50 or more for a bottle, you might as well appreciate it to better get your money's worth :-) Cheers!
+PCShogun Right?! I nose before the first sip every time. I don't even think about it. It's funny, I've found myself doing it to other things by mistake. Like if I drink an iced tea, I'll smell it before the first sip, then feel dumb for a sec lol.
Very nice box! At the time of reading there's a new expression of Peat Monster, I want to get the one you reviewed because it has some malts that I like a lot, like Ardmore
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary mm no, I was referring to Ardmore single malt from the highlands, being part of the blend of Peat Monster. The new Peat Monster doesn't have it, I believe Laphroaig either.
Peat Monster guest appearance was hysterical at end
Very enjoyable review. Liked that lead-in a lot. I agree this is an excellent blended malt! Thanks, and keep them coming!
+Luis Wells Thanks! I had fun doing it. It was a new thing for me. I was shocked at how much I liked this whiskey

Loved the start of this video, you should do more like this every so often. 😎

Sounds delicious! Your buddy has a way with words. Personally, I prefer wolf piss, but coyote is a reasonable substitute.
I was almost killed when I drank some Octomore! OMG was it strong!!! I won't be trying this, but thank you for the review.
This is far more mild than octomore... I'd compare it to an ardbeg 10 if I remember correctly
Hilarious! not only educative but very funny introduction hahaha Good one!
Thanks! It was fun!
does it taste more like caol ila or laphraoig?
+Tony probably more like a less smokey Laphroaig
So, more like caol ila.
Yup
I enjoy a peated scotch. This perticular scotch has my couriousity
Very nice box! At the time of reading there's a new expression of Peat Monster, I want to get the one you reviewed because it has some malts that I like a lot, like Ardmore
Are you speaking of the Arcana? I've heard great things about that one
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary mm no, I was referring to Ardmore single malt from the highlands, being part of the blend of Peat Monster. The new Peat Monster doesn't have it, I believe Laphroaig either.
Ah gotcha. I kind of want to buy a bottle now
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I ordered one of the 'old' ones (brown label) later on I'd like to compare it with the new version
The reason it’s pretty light in color is that there is no E150 caramel color added to it ....small details
Been on the fence of buying this for awhile. I’m a big fan of Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Coal Ila, Talisker, etc...
Do it!
great video, thanks. Do you know where I could find such a nice poster?
The company sent me a bunch of them but I dont think you can buy them
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Jill from Compass Box just sent me 2 of these. How great these people are!!!
They sure are :)
Great video, my friend! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ryan!
Good stuff in there
Agreed@
Nice place...hardwood floors...
+Steve Walther Thanks :) we moved here less than 2 years ago. I like it
Ha ha such a great intro!!! Brilliant!
Thanks Pete!
Ledaig= Le chaig
Ledaig is pronounced Led-chaig - ala ua-cam.com/video/RPekz48Ah14/v-deo.html
Thanks for the correction. If I had the accent of Ralphy it would probably come effortlessly!
No problem, it's not exactly intuitive.
Not trying to be a dick, but Ledaig is pronounced "ledge egg."
Thanks! Mispronouncing scotch is bound to happen. I try not to let it happen twice
Men should not wear footsie socks. Your making a whiskey video man, dress like one.
