I love that there are 4 opinions on the whiskey from your videos. That's at least twice as many as the rest and I didn't even have to use the calculator on my phone to get that number. ✌
I just paid 37 USD for a bottle of the latest PM edition at Lidl Winehouse here in Poland (free shipping to the nearest store). For this price it is absolutely worth it. Although the nose is way more sweet and medicinal than Ardbeg 10yo. The PM is also quite young and fruity, the candy overwhelms the peat quite a lot after a few sips. The alcohol is also quite noticeable on the palate, which cannot be said about Ardbeg.
just got a bottle of peat monster the other day, and i gotta say, i'm really surprised by how much i like it. it goes perfectly with stinkier french and smoked italian cheese. definitly gonna make this bottle a regular
I don't have that one but I dug out my brown label Peat Monster that was hiding in my pantry. Gotta say this is really nice, I mean really really nice. Thursday I will do a side by side with the 10 Year Anniversary bottle. My regret was not picking another 1.75 L Peat Monster.
The Ledaig 10 and 18 are becoming go to whiskies for a lot of people now (myself included), so maybe they can't get enough of it for the blend any more.
If you look at the evolution of No Name 1 and 2, the 2 has more Caol Ila and is sweeter. Ardbeg is putting out a lot of variation, it could be that Compass Box is not able to aquire the casks of Ardbeg that it once could.
I was a big fan of the brown label and snapped up a replacement when I found a dusty. Yes it is lighter in color. Also I just feel the supply of casks must be more limited for Compass Box these days.
Personally i missed the dark fruits i tasted in the original. Were they even there? I remember it being by far the stand out out of the basic ones. Maybe i didn't rinse my glass after a sherry malt? It was amazing! Either way, my neck pour was still good, so it's bound to be a good journey.
Having had the old and new Peat Monsters side-by-side, I usually describe the difference as being similar to the difference between Ardbeg and Laphroaig: the old has an iodine-y, medicinal note to it on the palette that the new doesn't really. The new(est) Peat Monster Arcana seems to continue the trend towards a sweeter formulation. All three are good, and I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite.
@@judgeholden849 Was given a bottle of Elijah Craig for my birthday and then i was hooked on the idea of getting the smokest whisky on the market n google said it was peat monster at the time. about 3years ago
@@WheelHouse1of1 oh I see haha. I mainly drink peated scotch, try Uigeadail, it is the only one that ever blew me away with smoke...been chasing that dragon since
This new version just came in #9 on the Whisky Advocate 2020 Top 20. And oh crap it is on sale for $50 USD. Twist my peaty arm. Amazon seriously needs to start selling and delivering alcohol in Canada and the US. I have always enjoyed the brown label but here goes nothing. Slainte.

Thanks guys
I am so excited to try this and am on the hunt for it.

Maybe an eye dropper of Ardbeg instead of water?
I love this blend and bought multiple bottles
Best tasting note Drew. " medicinal sweetness "

Love that Compass Box, glad I still got a brown label sitting unopened on the shelf! 💯🥃

I'm a big fan of the previous version to, how does it compare to the new one?
@@5eba I grabbed a backup of the old one as I have not tried the new one.
Great review. I think leaving out the Ledaig hurt this ones balance.
You and me both!
Honeysuckle sweetness , smoked heather over charcoal.

Disappointing. I dislike sweet blends or single malts. I think I’d prefer the older Peatmonster!
Peat monster was my 1st bottle i ever bought. Still have 75% of it... not sure why. Time to go back
what an incredibly strange place to start drinking scotch lol

Just found a bottle for $54 while picking up my go-to Port Charlotte 10. For 54 bucks I figured it was woth a shot.
Do you know if they used younger casks in this batch? The difference could be the missing Ledaig & Ardmore but could also be an age difference
I personally think missing the other two hurt this bottle compared to the old. still good, but the brown is much better and fuller. -Drew
I'm about to open mi first bottle of the new recipe I'm skeptic. I had several bottles of the previous version, and I preferred it to Lagavulin 16.
How do you compare to Ardbeg Uigedail or Corryvreckan? Doesn't sound like its at that level of peated taste profile!
This is definitely in my wheelhouse as you say.
Love the old one, do you recomend some others from compassbox. I hears hedonism is not good but like no name its superb what do you think
Spice tree is wonderful. Stranger and Stranger is AMAZING. Spice Tree and Peat Monster are my go-tos. I like them more than most of the pricier ones.
By the way, how would you rank this against the Bunnahabhain TOE-teek....Toiteach A Dha :)?
Ooof....would need to put those two head to head...which is an excellent idea!! ~Mark
Licky us. This bottle costs less than 40€ in Germany
It's almost as much as Lagavullin 16 and no where near as good.
