      Not everyone wants the same things. What you see as "production value" may look like "artsy" fluff that just eats up time to others. I came to learn about hanging drywall, but for a 12 minute video there was actually very little taught. I am just starting to learn about drywall, and even I know that you need to stagger the joints which they didn't do (see 4:49). All the fancy video editing, music, jokes, etc. come across as annoying when the video falls short of living up to its title.

    "Avoid joint over the corner door frames in windows"
    There literal first sheet they put up was on a corner of a door.
    It's actually best to put the joint over a door frame in the middle somewhere because it creates a smaller joint to finish and is just as stable as any other joint.
    Where they put that first sheet, in line with edge of door, is where a lot movement happens every time it's opened and close.
    That joint is guaranteed to crack relatively soon and I'd put money on it.
    As well as at 4:45, they broke on the same stud for the entire length of the wall.
    You'll essentially never be able to hide that joint with mud.
    Hopefully they put something there that will never let that wall see the light of day, or the dark of night.
    Also code is different everywhere, but on residential you can nearly always do ever 12" on center for your screw pattern in the field.
    (3 screws per stud except on the top plate, bottom plate and joints, those are 8". So every joint each sheet should have 5.)
    If you're gonna make a guide, especially for beginners, you should have some idea of what you're doing.
    Leave the drywall to the professionals if you don't want to pay us later to come back and fix all your DIY.
    Your guys' video production is very high quality, I did actually enjoy the video.
    I didn't expect to learn anything so I'm not critiquing you on that, rather, I'm critiquing you on how many people you misinformed.
    You don't ask a nursing student to teach you how to preform brain surgery.
    Why ask a DIYer homeowner to teach you drywall. Those are not similar trades but the concept is similar.
    Don't learn from those who don't know because you will learn incorrectly.

      Says the guy watching a sheet rock for beginners!!!

    • @TheOfficialDjProduct
      @TheOfficialDjProduct 9 місяців тому +7

      @@paigewagner4857 I'm a journeyman hanger and have been doing finish work for 4 years. Done steel stud framing here and there as well. I've done residential and tons of commercial.
      I like to watch these videos because I'm opened minded and am always trying to learn more. If I can learn 1 thing from a 1 hour video, then it's worth it, but after a bit I can sort of predict if I'll learn anything.
      I'll still finish the video because you never know.
      But when I see people trying to teach others when they really have no idea, it upsets me because now everyone who watches this video without a grain of salt is going to absolutely destroy either their home, or another person's home.
      I wouldn't teach someone how to fly a plane because I don't know how to fly one.
      And it would make me responsible for anything that comes of it.
      Because this is a UA-cam video, there is no way for them to take responsibility for what others are going to do to their homes.

    • @olamideDIY
      @olamideDIY 9 місяців тому +1

      You are exactly right. I heard them say "avoid joints on door frames and windows" and I was like... wha? thats the best place to put them so you get a shorter butt joint to deal with. And then I saw them installing drywall without breaking the seam (4 drywall sheets that all meet at one point, example at 4:17) and I knew I had to come down to the comments section to see if I needed to be the first to call them out for that. The proper way to do it, if you have 8 foot long sheets is to ensure that the butt joint of the top row is 4 feet away from the butt joint of the bottom row, not right on top of each other. Mudding and feathering out a 8 foot long butt joint is going to be hell and will be quite apparent to visitors once done.

    Peaceful Blue, Dayflower, and Offshore Mist from BEHR Marquee. Just used these and some other nice colors in a 2 family house (bottom floor and foyer). Everyone that has seen it, loves these colors. Another good one is Solemn Silence from BEHR Marquee. Used in hallway/ mudroom and laundry room on the second floor. I plan to reuse some of these colors in our next project.

    • @bradleyliles9360

      Shed is a level 1 unless ya have an attached garage as a shed . This flip should’ve been a level 5 finish. Not hating as I feel the cost of labor and material nowadays but I’d def not put it on you tube if I were trying selling with no stagger and long floor to ceiling joints that’ll never slick up you’ll see that first coat of primer and it’s actually sad now they wasted their money and time and will need to do it again to save integrity of the drywall and paint. If he sold it asap maybe in 30 days and nobody opened that door and shut it even once he may be okay to get out of there without cracks but if it has been I’d bet it has cracked within 10 closings of the door. One simple mistake either Jsut cost them a sale and money or the new buyer got jacked up for a big repair right off the bat.

    thank you for posting this. I want to gut the plaster and lathe in a house we are buying and run new electric. I was wondering if i was being too arrogant to think I could do the drywall myself so we could keep our costs mostly for electrical work. I still think I can do it, but someone else is going to do the mud!!

    • @WhatTheFlipShow
      @WhatTheFlipShow  2 роки тому

      You got this! Removing plaster is our least favorite job but it saves a ton of money. And you can absolutely hang the sheet rock yourself and pay someone to do the mud, BUT get some quotes and see how much it will save you to have them just mud vs doing the whole job. It may be worth it to you to just hire out the drywall completely.

    O? HI
    can you explain why you start installing drywall from the top?

    • @goodolarchie
      @goodolarchie 3 місяці тому

      Ease of installation, for one. Rooms aren't square even if they were perfectly level and plumb when installed, things like joist weight and all that can hang a tiny bit. Framing lumber can be really shitty shape, in the US our mills are going for speed and cost and not quality, so stuff warps and has knots. Ceiling panels are the hardest to get aligned, measured/cut, and screwed in. Since the walls cover that seam, they address any "slop" of the ceiling, unless you have something like crown molding.
      Then on the walls, your baseboard covers that slop where it meets the floor. The floor is almost certainly a degree or two off the ceiling in places. That's why you see them leaving around 1/2 - 1" gap at the bottom of panels at 4:43. Foam backer rods make great insulation under these btw, though rodents can easily chew through. Lots of decisions and tradeoffs.
