Enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would, felt like a perfect split between Edward Scissorhands and Heathers. So obvious that this will be a cult classic one day. Great video, Cody!
Cody I agreed with a lot of what you said about this movie. As someone who loves Tim Burton’s films I really enjoyed the vibe that this film had. Really the only negative that I had was that I felt that the second half wasn’t as focused as the first half of the film.
I haven't seen Lisa Frankenstein yet but i'm a goth and I LOVE Heathers and Edward Scissorhands, and teen angst horror like Jennifer's Body and Ginger Snaps. I am so unbelievably excited to go watch it with my friend soon! we're even dressing up for it.
Just got back from watching to movie and I had a blast. It’s weird and definitely not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea but I definitely is mine. I thought Kathryn Newton was great in the role and I loved the atmosphere of the movie. Has that Burton vibe that we don’t get lot of anymore. Also laughed a good bit watching
Juno and Jennifer’s Body are and have always been two of my fav films ever (I was a teenager when they came out so I was right in that target demo back then) so I’m pretty confident I’ll love this just as much despite being much older now considering how well the other 2 still hold up for me.
Juno? Get that girl an abortion instead of letting her ruin her body for an unwanted child. The movie is just awfull. No girl should choose outdated morals over herself. Plus why didn't she and her superugly weirdo boyfriend not use contraceptives like normal Teenagers? And every girl that is okay with condoms must have the pill after at hand. Juno is such a dumb bimbo. Dann I hate this movie
I really liked the movie, I'm honestly really sad that it's bombing at the box office right now. People complain that Hollywood is out of ideas and yet they don't support movies like this smh
I completely agree. I really enjoyed the film and honestly I didn’t even realize until afterward that it only has a 50 percent rotten tomato score. I would’ve thought it would be at least in the 60’s.
@@cooperwolfe5478 I have a feeling it’s going to be another Jennifer’s Body situation where it gets panned at release, bombs at the box office, but then will be appreciated years later. Poor Diablo Cody lol
I watched it today and I was cackling the whole time and I loved almost everything here. Kathryn Newton really stole this show, i think I like this more than Freaky for her even tho she was great in that. I was the target audience for this😅
I love your reviews. You always bring up something I hadn't thought about, and you take time to really dig in deep. I've been binge-watching your videos and just realized I hadn't subscribed! I've now subscribed!
I enjoyed this a good bit. Good atmosphere and place, good cast, dark humor worked and I got invested in the story. Not great cinema and the douchy characters wear down on me a bit but really solid. Zelda Williams is a real talent. 8/10
I agree with a lot of what you said. Personally I love films that have a weird premise like Lisa Frankenstein. I do agree that as the 2nd half progressed some of the characters started to wear down my enjoyment t of the film but overall I really enjoyed it.
The chemistry between Kathryn and Cole is fantastic. But for me Cole is clearly the star of the film, without saying so much, just his physicality is just beautiful to watch.🥰 Zelda Williams' memory of her father in the last scene when Cole wears rainbow braces is also simply wonderful - a reminiscence of Robin's role in Mork & Mindy. ♥
So, I finally watched this and of course, I adored it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was basically exactly what I was hoping it would be. The visuals really remind me of Edward Scissorhands, particularly the contrast between Edward and the colors surrounding him. Could’ve been funnier but the few laughs I did get were pretty good. Overall I found it to be a cute little movie for all of us “weird” girls out there who prefer the Edward Scissorhands/Corpse Bride/Warm Bodies approach to romance.
Had high hopes for this one, even if it is kinda of a niche flick I am glad that it is good. Quite a few other reviewers/critics are pricing it, yet kinda worried about if it would do well in the box office.
When I showed my husband the trailer, he said it reminded him of My Boyfriends Back (1993), which I had forgotten all about. 😆 I wasn’t sure if I should go to the theaters for this, but I just might now. 😁👍
Thanks for your review! Very insightful! I saw this movie last night and I loved it! It might not be for everyone, but I’m a self proclaimed “weird girl” and so I was easily able to roll with the fun. I feel #cultclassic is accurate! (Love your Phantasm shirt!)
Definitely loved this movie and happy that it came out, in my top 10 for this year for so far! It is SO cute! The deaths where intresting and the romance was actually pretty good! The twist with the sister cheating was also shocking. 9/10
I thought that this was the best movie of the year so far, albeit that’s a low bar to climb over. It was funny, touching, and twisted. Also Cody, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton returning to the Saw franchise for the 11th instalment. I know you have been looking forward to see where the Saw franchise goes next, so I figured that you would react negatively to the writers of the Hoffman movies returning.
My review of the movie as one of the original cast of kids who conceived and brought this film that later got made, will be up tonight in my Growing Up In Rock N Roll playlist. It’s important people go watch it cus this film discusses real things that were going on (no not the creature cuz I played him sometimes), but some city wide human testing on kids who are now grown and deserve reparations. My situation is really bad as one of the kids who suffered this and many aren’t here now and somehow peeps keep dy*ng. Some without justice. Kids really did disappear. This was a city of portland production. So a whole city of now grown kids deserves some reparations and some justice. I’m glad this film put a lot of these themes in the movie so there’s some credibility later for what these kids suffered. Like some of really did get that mouth fungus. Sacrifices really did occur in the graveyard, as kids were being human tested on and exposed to this stuff. So I discuss this stuff in my review… it’s a bit darker but I also discuss the classic horror comedy genre techniques used and the music and stuff too. I hope peeps enjoy it but also see how serious it is so many aren’t here now and there hasn’t been enough, if any, justice. Nice review. I discussed the Ryan Murphy type moments in the film, these kids and the girl behind this were just brilliant to have done this production as children. the actors did amazing! This film is too underrated and deserves some awards. One of the best I’ve seen in the genre.
Loved this movie right up my alley one of my favorite movies of all time tbh loved Jennifer’s body loved this one more . Great review Cody rock on brother 🤘🏻
in regards to Cole Sprouse's character I feel when he asked how they want him to emote they said do Johnny Depp from Sleepy hollow witch a hint of jack sparrow 😅
There was a lot I liked about this with the style. But there was so much I didn't get from watching this... did they ever find out who (spoiler) killed her mom? I thought they were going to come back to that, but they didn't...also I didn't really get the end and what happens next, unless there's a sequel.
I'm watching Breaking Bad and Justified both at the moment, I will confess I ain't a breaking bad fan but it did have some interesting ideas and I respect the show it made Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Bob Odenkirk household names, I wouldn't mind seeing Vince Gilligan returning to this universe he and Giancarlo Esposito are interested in a prequel about Gus (could we finally uncover the mysterious past of Gus, I think Gus was part of The Pinochet Regime in Chile), I'd love to see a prequel movie about Hank and Steve Gomez in their early days at The DEA, There's still some unanswered questions from BCS, BB @ EC 1. What will happen to Skyler, Walter JR and Holly? (I think Skyler will probably be sent to a female corrections facility and Marie will be the Guardian of Walter JR and Holly, but her relationship with Skyler will probably be done) 2. What Happened to Ted Beneke? Will he recover? 3. Why was Skyler at the Four Corners? 4. What was the Fate of Donald Margolis (Jane's Father) 5. Did Elliott and Gretchen give Walter JR the Money? 6. What exactly happened between Walter and Gretchen? 7. What is Gus's Past in Chile? Why was his records in Chile non existent? 8. What Happened to Patrick Kuby? This can't be compared to Tim Burton e.g. Edward Scissorhands or even Beetlejuice or Heathers, since those movies had a heart and also some underlying messages. The characters might be outsiders and alienated from society, but in other respects sensitive and likable, making them sympathetic in a way. They were usually misunderstood rather than "bad" or evil. Lisa Frankenstein is like having Edward Scissorhands turned murderous and cut off people for their body parts to replace his own. The idea that high school is hell is very old, but the problem is none of the characters are relatable. Just like Juno, there are too much one-liner jokes and stilted dialogue for its own good. As always, they were intended to be funny, but ultimately this is a pointless movie.
Taffy's character was more redeemable. The switch of character from bubbly to an emotional sad chic was an incredible transition for me. I really really wanted to love this. But I agree that it wasn't funny enough or written as clever as it thinks it is, and that bothered me a lot more, so my review is slightly negative instead of slightly positive like yours. I think Kathryn Newton was miscast. She was too low energy. This is the kind of role you need to bring high camp to, and she was so bland beyond Weirdo Goth Outcast Archetype. I think a comedic actress would have NAILED this, types like Anna Kendrick, Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Rebel Wilson, Melissa McCarthy, etc, but age appropriate. (Also, who are the current young physical comedy actors/actresses? Don't tell me we don't have any?!) Cole Sprouse had nothing to do. I thought, since he died a bachelor and was forsaken by his sweetheart for another in life and by Lisa for another in death, that he was going to "court" Lisa by killing the men he sees as his rivals for her affection as a way to be "more assertive this time around." And it's a silent horror rom-com role, so where is the splatter slapstick romantic gestures?!?! I get that he dis-"membered" his rival for Lisa but that was ONE gag in the THIRD act!!! I think that instead of going for Heathers meets Edward Scissorhands they should have went Heathers meets Sweeney Todd: Lisa's descent from meek "Benjamin Barker" to murderous "Sweeney Todd" and the Frankenstein being a lovesick accomplice in an 80s high school coming-of-rage story would have been more compelling.
This movie is so divisive; it seems. The Horror Show hated it, Cody loved it. I’m just sick of Cody writing about high school girls. Is that her only area of interest? Branching out might do her some good
To be fair, I didn’t love it. I gave it a 3/5. But yes this is the type of movie that I expect to highly appeal to a specific audience while being a mixed bag for everyone else.
I hated it when the nice old lady was killed and put in the dryer. The man who found her body discovered a valentine she had left for him a little later and that was so sad. I was only 14 and I thought it was really depressing that they killed off a sweet elderly lady and I was reminded of my grandmother, it was too disturbing. 💔
@skyofthelivingdead you brought absolutely nothing to the table with your dumb comment. Go listen to your shitty emo music and get off of the internet.
I caught an early screening of this flick, and for me the closest comparison is "Warm Bodies". Agreed, the script lacked focus. I'm also not really the target audience for it, and my big complaint is that the "romance" between the main characters don't have a chance to blossom because even after he is resurrected, Lisa still pines for a guy at school, who everyone else dismisses even though he looks like a male model. I couldn't root for Lisa because the deaths that occur are merely convenient, they're not acts of passion.
Cole Sprouse's character kept reminding of that dead guy from "Hocus Pocus". 😄😄

@skyofthelivingdead you brought absolutely nothing to the table with your dumb comment. Go listen to your shitty emo music and get off of the internet.
It was a less funny version of My boyfriend's back
I caught an early screening of this flick, and for me the closest comparison is "Warm Bodies".
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one Lisa Frankenstein sucks.
Flopped!!
