This was Slipknot at their very best. Paul, Joey, Chris all still there. Back when there was still a little mystery to what some members looked like. Iowa came out my freshman year of high school. Good times 🤘
London is BY FAR the best recorded performance they ever did. When they were at the top of their darker side. I’d definitely check out that whole show. You will NOT be disappointed
Regarding their masks, about half the members change/modify their masks every album cycle. So for the first one, Corey had a regular crash-test dummy mask. For this one, the 'Iowa' album cycle, he went with a white one. The only one who uses multiple masks is Sid, the DJ. He can be seen using 2 or 3 different ones in a cycle.
Corey had two masks in the self titled period. Crash dummy was his first one. He wore it since from 97 to 99. It felt apart shortly after Ozzfest, as he said. Than he switched to the ghostglow mask. In Iowa period he wore custom made one. The previous two were bought in stores and then modified. So he basically had 3 different masks with dreads, which are my favorites. I don't know which one I like the best though.. Probably ghostglow. It has the most aggressive look to it.
I love Corey's mask during this period. Especially when it got darker, and a little more road worn, and Corey painted the cross on it 🤘🏻. One of his best masks. This is a close second, to the vol. 3 mask. That one, with his rainbow hair? Bro, there's no contest. He looked sick as hell.
The DVD this is off of, Disasterpieces, had a really cool section where they had 3-4 songs that you could change camera angles. I always ended up watching Joey 😂
Absolutely love this song! Although Iowa (the album this song is from) was a VERY dark and messed up time for the band, they made some of their best work during that time. Yes they do change their masks and outfits with each album cycle. Some like Corey and Sid will do completely different masks and others like Mick and Craig just do little variations of the same mask. The beat box machine you mentioned was probably Craig's (spike head mask) sample table. If you listen closely to some of their not as well known older stuff or some of their very recent stuff, you'll hear some weird, random noises (sirens, buzzers, voices) and every so often a keyboard. That's Craig's stuff.
Iowa was probably their fiercest album. Their talent with their instruments were noticeably more skilled than the first album. Bought this the day it came out on September 11th 2001. Also, the same day, bought Slayer: God Hates Us All. Powerful year for music amidst the tragedy. What memories both good and bad.
Awsome reaction and an awesome some song! You should definitely do more songs from that DVD! It’s called Disasterpiece and was released 2002. My favorites from that DVD is “Heretic Anthem”, “Spit it out” and “People = shit”.
This was in 2002 I believe in the London Arena. During every album release they had specific jumpsuits and masks all different variations. During this era (IOWA) corey had multiple masks with his old dreads that he cut off and wrapped in yarn/twine to give it that stiffer look.
This is the Slipknot at its finest! It’s never been better or harder. I love the present but these guys on that stage had nothing to lose and they were destroying all!
It makes me so happy to watch people react this way to a band that I have loved for so long and has affected me in such a big way. Great video guys! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Joey Jordison was insane drummer and one of the founders of the band, today they rock with Jay Weinberg, who said that when he was a kid he started playng drum cause one day he will play for Slipknot, well he didnt lie :D
Genuinely warms my heart to see people who aren't familiar with metal giving it a go....and realising how ridiculously amazing it is. Love you for that!
My favourite corey scream such a gutteral tone , this album nearly killed a couple of them, such an emotional album . Got me through high-school alive ❤
The Slipknot we all want and desperately need back...... even subliminal versus era was incredible and then .... a drastic decline everything. Music, aggression, attitude, masks, Coreys voice....... the list goes on
I have been a Maggot since about 2002. Joey was one of my favorite drummers for years. I still put him in my top 10 but trust me when I say, he has many who can outplay him.
the different masks are from each albums just to let you guys know. the plain white one is from WANYK, the grey one is from VOl.3, the white one with the yellow eye was AHIG, and the one in this video was both self titled and iowa.
my favorite memory of this song was when my sister brought my youngest niece by while i had this album playing. i heard the opening chords of disasterpiece and went scrambling for my stereo to turn the volume down, and my sister was like “it’s no big deal, she’s listened to your music before” and i was like “umm… the first line is *whispers* i wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound” and she just looked at me and shook her head and was like “yeah. maybe skip this one.” 🤣🤣🤣 now it’s one of my niece’s favorite songs 😃
I listened to them live once and it was fookin épic! Joey didn´t do that awesome performance with the lifting drum solo, but wow... that was pure adrenaline and rage.
during making iowa, the band almost broke up. it was a hard time for them all. and yet, it was some of their best music. even corey taylor said that if they had to go through that again they would die lol
If y'all want to hear some crazy shit check out Unfathomable Ruination, Ribspreader, Crypticus (note Crypticus does have atmospheric music, look for the metal) and Grave to name a few.
Slipknot did an early album called “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.” that had the original singer. The songs “Gently” and “(sic)” are on it in their original form.
In case you didn't catch it, the opening line in this song is "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound.". By the way, the vocalist before Corey was Anders Colsefni, who appears on the band's very first album, 'Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.' and some early demos.
...Not that Corey isn't cool, but I advise you to go back and listen to "Do Nothing/Bitchslap" from the "demo" you mention, the real first Slipknot album: Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. It was pre-Corey, but is anything but "straight thrash" ;)
Sorry but it's not, I have an original copy with the booklet and it's all listed there 😅 the singer was Anders Colsefni, and there was "only" 7 members at that point :)
Lovin this 13 days of Halloween set! Try out some melancholy Slipknot - Vermillion pts 1 and 2. Corey has such a beautiful voice when he's not so angry🥰🤘
I love what you said about the 'gimmick' thing. It's so easy to level that at this band, but...you can clearly see and hear that their music is STRONG. Their thing isn't hingeing on their masks and image, that's secondary. Their music comes first and it's BIG. The image stuff just makes them hard to ignore; this band ain't Kiss. Their music is why we all love them, NOT the stupid shit that clueless people wanna accredit their success to because they haven't got the capacity to see that this band is BIG because they're AMAZING.
Corey joined in 97. Slipknot kept getting passed over from record companies. As soon as Corey joined they got signed. Joey was the drummer. He's awsome. The new drummer Jay is awsome as well. Love your reactions! New sub😁
Yay!! It's unblocked. Love Slipknot! Definitely need to do "People=Sh*t" one of my all time favorites. And "Vermillion pt 1 and 2" and do Corey Taylor "Snuff" acoustic and live. RIP Paul
Insane clown posse has been repping for Halloween ever since they got started. They throw a Halloween concert every year called hollowwicked. They really hold it down for Halloween.
You guys are awesome! Very open minded! Musics more interesting when you try different genres. Very cool to hear your perspective on one of my favorite bands. Check out slipknot, only one, off the first record. Some serious lyrical flow from Corey and its brutal.
Y’all should check out a metal festival if you haven’t been. I’ve never felt unsafe. People will pick you up when you fall down in the pit, men will look out for the ladies… it’s an awesome atmosphere while listening to the most aggro music ever. I got kicked in the head by a crowd surfer one year. I was pregnant and it was obvious so I was trying to stay on the sidelines and still enjoy myself. Before my husband even knew what happened, there were 4-5 other guys in my face to help me up and offer to take me to the medical tent. I wasn’t hurt but that’s an example of how everyone looks out for each other in that crowd.
There’s smth about these band members, especially Corey who’s been with the band since practically their origins (yes he took over the original lead singer however back then no official albums were released as their first official album was recorded with Corey Taylor) cause like idk what it is but they have so much talent and energy at the shows, but Corey just brings menacing and horrid to it whilst still singing and not (usually) being distracted 😂
It was the right time for the next pantera-Metallica-megadeth,etc next big sound and they had a unique concept with multiple performers and concepts mixed into chaotic maggot metal that is dominant to this day
If you want to see another great song from this same show react to..... The Heretic Anthem live in London 2002 you'll also see Joey ( the original drumer) putting on yet another master class! My advice to you guys is putting going to a Slipknot concert on your bucket list! And if you come away disappointed after I'd personally send you the money you paid for the tickets!
FYI if you wanna Halloween type band to react to, the genre is actually called “Horrorcore” and it’s a band called Ice Nine Kills. Idk if you’ve reacted yet to any of their stuff, but their best album I’ve heard so far is called the Silver Scream and there are like 6-7 true bangers on that one alone. Just thought I’d put that out there for ya. Like your channel.
This video is from the Disasterpieces live DVD from 2002. Great times, when Joey was still in the band and Paul was still alive.
Don't forget about Chris Fehn.
I wore out that DVD when I was in high-school. Watched it literally every day
The DVD with 16 camera angles to switch between while watching.
and chris too
I still have that dvd
Joey is in my opinion the best drummer ever. I wish he had never gotten sick.
Same
danney carey.
Now he's gone🙁 at least him and Paul are together again
I wish he had never died

Fun Fact: You can always keep up with Slipknot, cause they change their masks with each album to stamp what era of slipknot we are in.

For this one, the 'Iowa' album cycle, he went with a white one. The only one who uses multiple masks is Sid, the DJ. He can be seen using 2 or 3 different ones in a cycle.
Very much like Kiss - they change up their costumes for each tour. Make-up is always the same - but the costumes change.
Sid, the dj, you mean DJ STARSCREAM!!

Can we make this into Slipknot Saturday?
I hope they do 😂
Yes, Joey Jordison (the drummer) is the GOAT
what about jay?
@@JamieMcGuire3295 He's up there but he's still young, he hasn't really had the time to cement his legacy yet.

he also does a lot of the guitar effects so they aren't having their expensive ass gear at the front of the stage
So glad this is unblocked!!! Great song!!
This was KILLER! Guys you need to consider Slipnot/Stone Sour sundays. Tool family? Tiffany?
@@markmaloney3140 yes I hope a Slipknot Saturday or Sunday will be in the future!
@@tiffanykennedy8397 yesss that would be so cool
This album went to number 1 here in the uk and its possibly the heaviest and darkest album to ever do so!
Worked at that gig in the pit between the crowd and stage….utter chaos, fuckin love it
Iowa was probably their fiercest album. Their talent with their instruments were noticeably more skilled than the first album. Bought this the day it came out on September 11th 2001. You NEED to watch the drum cam version of this. Joey is LEGENDARY!
This was in 2002 I believe in the London Arena.
During every album release they had specific jumpsuits and masks all different variations.
During this era (IOWA) corey had multiple masks with his old dreads that he cut off and wrapped in yarn/twine to give it that stiffer look.
That DVD from Japan was dope too

It's gone now.

I had this entire live DVD when I was a teenager. I believe its on UA-cam in its entirety. Worth watching for sure.
It makes me so happy to watch people react this way to a band that I have loved for so long and has affected me in such a big way. Great video guys! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I can't believe that it's been 21 years since I first saw and met these guys at Ozzfest. They were cool as can be too.
Great reaction!! In those times Slipknot was so dangerous... Nothing is better than some old school Slipknot just brutal and insane!! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
that whole live show from 2002 is on another level and absolutely mental

Slipknot ‘Spit It Out’ song has awesome crowd participation 🤘🏼 especially on this DVD
Agreed! Wish more reactors would react to Spit It Out from this show instead of 09 Download....which is only due to crowd size I feel
they change their mask every new albums
Great reaction, amazing song and thankfully very good audio on your channel. Appreciate it!
I have been a Maggot since about 2002. Joey was one of my favorite drummers for years. I still put him in my top 10 but trust me when I say, he has many who can outplay him.
There are young Japanese females that can.
He was an innovator though.
Love how open these guys are to new music. It is really cool to see genres swap
