  • Board Certified Prosthodontist and Board-Certified implant Dentist, Dr. David McFadden, talks about the many factors involved in WHY some dentists are so much better at dentistry than others; Why certain people are so much better at certain things than others, despite their education levels, IQ, or even the number of hours they spend practicing a skill or endeavor. He ties this into dentistry, among other skills.

There needs to be protocols in place before any irreversible, invasive, and permanent procedure is made by a dentist/periodontist stating, showing proof that ALL teeth shpuld be extracted. Its devastating to learn something so traumatic did not need to take place.
The particular place I am referring to had amazing reviews with alluring photos. Looking back, there were so many red flags....Including telling me he came up with the all on 4 concept. How could I have been so foolish?

I commented on another of your videos a few day's ago that I was going to Nuvia Sept 5th in Detroit but now I'm wondering if I just shouldn't just get on a plane and head for Dallas instead.
I'm just scared of getting disappointed again here in Michigan

Please do you have a video discussing zygomatic implants ?
After they are implanted are the solutions the same ?
    Thanks in advance

Steve, I consider Zygomatic implants to be the absolute last resort for those rare patients who have lost most of their dental bone and for whatever reason cannot have bone grafting. Like All-on-4, they require angle correction abutments which the bone and tissues DO NOT LIKE! Patients can expect recession and non-cleansable contours. In all my years of doing implant dentistry, I have only had two patients need zygomatic implant treatment. It was their only options.

I'm not a Dr. I'm not even a patient who is looking for a dentist but I have worked administratively in the dental field for over 21 years. I think this and this topic should be required learning for all students wanting to be a dentist. As a dental staff member, it is so much easier for us to work for a dentist who is not only passionate and caring about their work but someone who is always striving to learn more and can stand behind the quality of their work. I can easily treatment plan a $40k case when I know that the quality and service will make it worth their investment, and when I know I am helping to make a positive change in a patient's life. Unfortunately the majority of dentists I know have little experience when it comes to being a leader, running a team, and producing quality work. Investing in your staff, investing in your product, and investing in continuing education, it all matters. If your staff sees that you are a good ethical dentist they will stand behind you and validate your work. By the way your "lips retracted" video was a game changer for me. I learned a lot. 😁

I see your point but what leapt out at me was the example of a $40,000 treatment plan. We shouldn't even have to see a number like this for our oral care. The gateway to our entire bodies health since most average people will never be able to invest that much, thus suffer the remainder of our lives with the repurcussions. This is exactly the position I am in after the worst mess of botched dentistry has cost me all my back teeth. Which will have a domino effect on the rest as the loss of structural support and resulting gum recession progress.
It's a mortifying, horrible experience. Losing some of the most basic pleasures in life such as eating the perfect steak, or ever enjoy a milkshake unless with a spoon. You don't ever think you will be in such a position or how easily you can choke on food without back teeth. Chewing with a single bicuspid is painful. I've commented on a few of Dr. McFaddens videos before, as a patient whose not able to have the worst case scenario - dentures. After developing a mysterious illness and best guess has been lichen planus. It's been over 3 years and no cure in sight. Implants are the only option and I will never be able to afford that as a disabled person.
Sorry to veer off your point. It's an accurate one
