    That was a great video. From what I've watched on UA-cam, gravel pits are the way to go. The scenery is better on the beach, but the rocks seem to be better in pits. One of my favorite shots was the little sand pillars with the rocks on top.
    That one you're unsure about is what I call a "maygate". That's short for "maybe an agate". I pick up a lot of those.

    Fantastic video! And look at all those comments. Great finds. The gravel pits are the best but many owners don't want to be liable for one getting injured. Volunteer to sign a waiver. Might want to draw one up to have on hand. Really enjoyed your video, beautiful agates. Farmers fields are another great place to look. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

    The question rock looks like agate breccia with rhyolite. When you first turned it over I thought it could be a agate petoskey stone, yup they exist. I have a few but nothing that reddish brown. With a loupe you would be able to tell. I have about 50 agate fossils. Calcite color will FADE, agate will not
    Cabs are items for earrings or a pendant for a necklace, even for rings :)

    • @AgateDad
      @AgateDad  4 роки тому +2

      I had no idea, so cool! And great information! I need to get a loupe and look into that, and others that I question if there is small amethyst crystals embedded in them.

    • @TheMogjo
      @TheMogjo 4 роки тому +1

      @@AgateDad Few things to note : Calcite is softer material (mohs 3 ) also, look to the mohs scale of hardness. If you plan on tumbling in the future best to learn about it. You don't want to put soft rocks in with super hard ones ( agate, mohs 7-8), will tumble the softer ones into nothing. Fast way to check hardness is take a metal pick or file, something you know is steel and rub it on a rock. If it leaves a steel mark you know that rock is over steel mohs hard, which is about 5.5-6.5 or so. If the rock breaks up or you leave trail of dust from the rock itself then that rock is softer than steel mohs hard, under 5.5-6.5 or so.
      Could very well be on the crystals but I have zero experience with that here in SW Michigan. One thing I do know is Flint has a lot of crystal formation within it. And tons of crystals fade color, most amethyst will fade in sun light
      Maybe what you could have is chucks of Garnet? Maybe
