Loved your reactions. It’s “a cappella” music which means no instruments, it’s all done by their voices. They won the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013 the year after Pentatonix won (another incredible “a cappella’ group). They do sing country but they sing all genres of music. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can sing bass all the way up to tenor. They can all sing and their beatboxer is amazing doing drums, harmonica, bugs and all kinds of sounds. Chance (back row with vest) was doing the “mouth harp” which sounds like a didgeridoo but isn’t. The beatboxer, Adam, can do a didgeridoo however. Try the Boyz II Men hit End of the Road by them…it’s so good. Also listen to Adam Rupp Drum Solo on you tube. He’s amazing.

As for the song, it is over a 100 years old, written in 1913. It was made popular in the George Clooney movie, Oh Brother Where Art Thou in 2000 by the Soggy Bottom Boys. Regarding Home Free they are strictly A Capella, and they use no instruments. They were founded in 2000 by the beatboxer and his brother, who left the band in 2016. They are from Mankato, Minn. along with the bearded guy with glasses. The bass singer is from east Texas, the lead singer is from Georgia, and the guy in the back making the jaw harp sound grew up in southern Alabama. They are the only known country vocal band, but also do a lot of R&B and pop covers as well. They also have a number of originals as well. They have a huge fan base known as Home Fries, and have nearly 150 videos and close to 400 million UA-cam views. Since most band rely on instruments, they may have just one or two singers, but all of these guys can sing, beatbox, and make musical instrument sounds that gives their product a full and rich experience. Although there are other A Capella bands, there is no one like what Home Free does. Hope you do more HF. There is not one performance you won't like with them.
The genre is a capella or vocal band and yes they were making all the noises. Check out Adam Rupp drum solo 2018. He is their beatboxer. Although all of the guys can do sounds and some beatboxing.
The genre is a cappella. Yes. 100% vocal, but there are multiple tracts used on the video. When performing live they use a loop station. Hoping you will want to discover more.
Listen to them do When a Man Loves a Woman and also End of the Road. I think if you listen to more of their songs you will get a better idea of what Home Free is. And yes it is 100% voices no instruments. Just a group of talented guys. Dive deeper you'll see.
100% voice. There are videos of their award winning beat boxer doing an entire drum kit. It’s insane. End of the road, ring of fire, my church. They have so many greats
From what i've heard Tim has blown bass speakers during live performances because of how deep his voice is, Adam can seemingly create any instrumental sound with just his mouth and body,
It's considered county folk and bluegrass. Remember when the movie Brother, where art thou came out this song was all over the airwaves. The movie is adapted from the Odyssey by Homer.
I came to make this exact comment. "O Brother, Where Art Thou" by the Coen Brothers is fantastic and worth a watch if you like amazing movies. It is the best role George Clooney has ever been in, in my opinion.

Home Free is lit. More please. Beatboxer is world class. Their version of End of the Road will blow you away. They all beat box and sing lead. The bass can also go high. They interchange roles a lot.
The song first published by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. An early version was recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928, which gave the song its current titles. It’s been sung by many including George Clooney in the 2000 movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

I’m guessing the version you mean is the cover by Dan Tyminski, part of Union Station, from the movie O Brother Where Art Thou. The song is from 1913, so no one these days has heard the “original” song. The first recording was around 1928.

This style of music is known as Bluegrass and got started in the 1930's, and it came to prominence after world war 2. It's roots go back to folk music from rural southern states and the isolated communities in the Appalachian mountains.
Home Free is an a'cappella band This song is from the movie "O' Brother where art thou" George Clooney and several other great actors. Depression Era Mississippi. It's actually a parody of Homer's odyssey. You should hear Home Free cover Boys 2 Men "end of the road" They also have an amazing cover of "when a man loves a woman"
All the music is done with their voices too. The harmonica isn't actually a harmonica. He's using his mouth and nasal passage to make that sound. They're freaking amazing. And it's actually considered bluegrass
I worked with Rob Lundquist's (no hat) Dad... They met in Mankato, Minnesota in 2013. They are a full on a cappella group and all of the instrument sounds you heard, are vocally made.
100% voices. Several of the guys can beatbox, but the one guy does almost all of it. In fact there are videos on YT of him doing drum solos (with his mouth!!!). Search Adam Rupp drum solo. That sound (similar to a didgeridoo) is actually the sound of a Jews Harp or Jaw Harp. Check out more of them. You will be blown away. This is a cover. There is a movie with George Clooney called Oh Brother Where Art Thou. This song is from that movie. To really appreciate their vocals try their video of How Great Thou Art. They are an acapella group. They tour and record and it's just their voices.
Haha, yep! They’re all a capella! This is one of very few songs which they use a looper station on when performing it live(and you can tell the beatboxer has a blast running it 😂) I really hope you check out the Home Free rabbit hole 😊 I hope you have fun! You can’t go wrong with any of their songs, they’re amazing. If you’d like a quick guide, you have: Austin Brown: high tenor - the guy who started the lyrics first, long, curly, reddish hair - he’s from Tifton, Georgia and they met him when they were both performers on a cruise ship! (He was a theatrical singer, impressed them, and they eventually asked him to join - except with his Georgia accent back 😋 They feature his theatrical singing in Bring Him Home from Les Mis live on stage) Rob Lunquist: second tenor - the guy on the side who also had the lead, long beard and glasses - he’s from Minnesota, and is the second-longest involved current member(I think he was local which is why they met him) Tim Foust: bass - shoulder length brown hair, although he cut it recently, but I think his voice makes him identifiable enough - he’s from southeast Texas, and they met him through networking, the group went through a lot of really good basses, but couldn’t keep one, and Tim was singing for different a cappella groups(he also released a solo album after joining Home Free, some of the songs of which Home Fire has re-recorded) Adam Rupp: beatboxer - easy enough to spot, but has blondish hair long or short - he’s from Mankato, Minnesota and cofounded the group with his brother Chris Rupp when they were in college. He has a degree in trumpet performance which helps with his beatboxing technique, and he’s called the “freak of nature” because his beatboxing is just so incredible-which is funny to find in a country group, but he is literally one of the best. Adam Chance(called Chance): current baritone - short dark hair and short dark beard - he replaced Chris Rupp when he left(on good terms to pursue other music) and he used to sing bass for an a capella group called Streetcorner Symphony which was on the same season of The Sing-Off that Home Free won. That’s how they met(and there was a tour afterwards so the became friends) and he joined a few years later. Now when Tim sings lead they’re able to let him take bass without killing their baritone 😂 (if you want to know where he’s from, he’s from Alabama - also, Tim and Austin live in Nashville now, Adam and Rob live in Minnesota, and Chance lives in LA) And Chris Rupp: past baritone - you’ll see him in older videos, bald or wearing a cowboy hat - he cofounded the group, but it was really his labor of love. Once they got their lineup straight (after several different high tenors and basses) their group really took off and they solidified their sound. They then won The Sing-Off and began producing music videos and albums, and they’ve been incredibly successful ever since. They don’t have any shortage of awesome songs, but some to start with include “End Of The Road”, “The Butts Medley”, “Ring of Fire” ft. Avi Kaplan(the bass of Pentatonix) They’re pretty unique in their country a capella style, when they won The Sing-Off(the same show that Pentatonix won), but they also extend to other genres : ) - Plus have an incredible sense of comedy that’s well worth a look. There have been a few versions of Man of Constant Sorrow, I think the most widely known version would be from the movie Oh Brother, Where Art Though, but I only know this song from Home Free’ version. Also! 4/5 of them have degrees in music, everyone except Tim, their bass. 4/5 of them have formal singing training, everyone except Adam, their beatboxer. Austin their high tenor was training in theatrical performance, and Adam Rupp has a degree in trumpet performance, I don’t know about the other two’s degrees, but fun fact, when their beatboxer sings, he’s a tenor!
Please go down this rabbit hole!!!! Sooooo many good songs! I’ve seen them live quite a few times and never been disappointed! 100% all their voices. The Home Fries will answer your questions along the way. There is just so much lol I recommend The Butts Medley for you guys. I’ve been watching your reactions for a min and think you will like that one!
In my opinion, the top three acapella groups now are Home Free, Voice Play, and Pentatonix. You’ll be extremely surprised at all of them! They are all great! You really should react to all of them! They all have many, many great songs! Home Free does an especially great cover of Boys To Men’s song “End of the Road”. You should make that a must to watch!
But be forewarned...this is a rabbit hole of great music and insane musical talent. You could literally do 3-6months of reaction videos to just those 3 groups
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer..he is amazing...check his Drum Solo ...he really shows off his talents...its hard beleive when you hear them thats there is no instruments but they are that good!
They are originally from Minnesota. Listen to their covers of “When A Man Loves A Woman” Percy Sledge, “Love Train” The O’Jays, “Never Gonna Give You Up” Rick Astley. And others.
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. He has been named the world's best beatboxer 2 years in a row. This is a folk song written in the first decade of the 1900s. Home Free is known as a "country" a capella group. This was basically a cover of the version used in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou.
The quick and dirty run-down of the formation: the beatboxer, Adam, and his brother Chris formed the group in Minneapolis with Rob, the husky, dark bearded fellow. Chris is no longer with the group. He left to start a solo career. They recruited Tim Foust, the bass. He's originally from Texas. They had performed some of the same gigs and knew each other. They found Austin, the slender, hat-wearing guy in the middle, while he was a singer on a cruise ship. He's from Georgia. Chance, the guy who was making the mouth harp sound, what you thought was a didgeridoo, replaced Chris as the group's baritone. Chance is from Alabama. I'm sure some of that isn't 100% accurate, but it's close enough. The point is that they all met in the ways musicians normally meet: either by auditioning for a job the way an actor does, or by not so random chance while performing. Home Free won The Sing Off the year after Pentatonix did. VoicePlay came in second to Home Free. Those are the 3 biggest a cappella groups going.
Also cant wait for you guys to check out Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) Amazing music and definitely has that swamp sound Lex is talking about! Soulful and powerful vocals!!! I recommend Run Through the Jungle, Fortunate Son, Born on the Bayou, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Green River, Midnight Special, Proud Mary, Looking Out My Backdoor, Lodi, I Put a Spell on You
Welcome to Home Free! This is a very deep rabbit hole...you'll be Home Fries before you know it! They all beat box, but Adam Rupp is the master. In order to appreciate everything he's adding to all their songs, it's good to listen to one of his "drum solos" early in your HF journey. This one is from 2015: ua-cam.com/video/EanKWLUaDpg/v-deo.html Adam is not human.
Glad you found a carpella def look into more of Homefree, maybe "End of the Road" or "Mayday".....also checkout Voiceplay "oogie boogie", "moana medly" etc
It's all voice, and talking about voice, Tim Faust is a legend of a Bass singer, this song became famous from the movie" O brother where art thou " starring the Clooney dude, good movie,
The main singer of this song, Austin Brown was performing on a cruise ship when the then band came on to perform. He was invited to join them and never looked back. You mentioned them as a choir...to truly hear them as a choir look up the U2 cover I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For by Peter Hollens feat. Home Free. From what I gather Peter and the group turned to their Patreon fans and had them record themselves singing the song then send them in to be edited together. This was during quarantine and the 6 guys were all at their homes, separated from each other...well, the resulting video is hard to describe, you just have to experience that beautiful bit of heaven for yourself. Also check out Austin Brown going non-acappella with Unchained Melody, backed by a single guitar. Beautiful!
great songs by them: when a man loves a woman, mayday, the butts remix (funny song), we just disagree, take me home country roads….so many great covers
They do all genres. Listen to their version of Boys to men “ End of the Road “. and Justin Timberlakes “ Can’t stop the feeling “ Marin Morrison. “ My Church “ They have a big catalog. Note. They won the Sing off season 4. Voiceplay was in that competition to but got eliminated Pentatonix won season 3. These are the three best groups
There are no instruments. It all done with their voices!👍 The origins is excellent. It was used in the movie Brother where art Thou. 100% all voice. That’s how good they are. Stuff like this is providence!
The original of this song is best known from the movie Oh Brother, Where Art Thou with George Clooney. They cover lots of different genres, all great stuff. Check out Pentatonix if you haven't already. Their Acapella vocals/beatboxing are a-mazing!! One of the finest examples of their skills is their Bohemian Rhapsody cover. Voiceplay is another topgroup. Their Carry On Wayward Son cover is stellar! The Acapella rabbit hole is both deep and wide, and you'd find the exploration very enjoyable!
When you talk acapella you have to include Pentatonix in the conversation their videos Radioactive, Daft Punk, Sing, and 90's Dance Medley are definitely worth your time.
Full and completely acapella group, no instruments except their voices involved. Their talent level is off the charts and to top it off they are absolutely hilarious live.
Misty Mountains Cold by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust, Ring of fire by Home Free. Oggie boggies song by Voiceplay, Your a mean one Mr Grinch by Voiceplay, Sixteen tons by Geoff Castellucci. You wont be disappointed listening to these 👍🍻
Home free was originally from a singing competition which they won. At least where they started gaining fame. They do a bunch of covers from a bunch of different genres but are mainly country. And yes they don't use instruments beyond their voices. You should do their "American Pie" cover ft Don McLean the guy who originally sang it 50 years ago. Amazing group. Another good one is a cover "Mayday" by Cam
@@tarjaikola not exactly. They have gotten considerably better throughout the years. Chris is no longer with them either. But yes they are still performing the same type of music and I was simply stating they became famous from the sing off or something like that I can't remember what the singing competition. Its pointless to go back on forth on this so have a great day
Before going full time they actually sang around Minnesota doing county fairs and such. But after winning the competition and getting the recording contract and winning the $100,000 then they went full time.
Yooo this version is awesome but the original is where the nostalgia kicks in!! (By original I meant, the oh brother where art thou version to clear up any confusion)
It is a genre, it's called acappella😁. I have to ask, have you guys heard of "Pentatonix"?. If not... Here's the Trifecta of acappella groups. Pentatonix, Homefree, and Voiceplay
The original goes back to around 1913, by The Stanley Brothers. This song has been covered by a whole lotta people including Bob Dylan. Home Free is aculpella group with many songs you two should check out. 🤗🤔😎
The 1913 recording was by Dick Burnett in Kentucky, this was the first time it was recorded. The Stanley Brothers version was done in the 1950s. The song itself is probably two or three hundred years old.
@@sarahsizemore8651 It’s older than that😄 It is a traditional American folk song. It was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Dick Burnett dated to around 1913. An early version was recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928
The Didgeridoo sound that you mentioned is actually being done by the use of a mouth harp. At the very end they actually show Adam Chance "Chance" for a few seconds making the sound. Most of the other "Beat Boxing" sounds are made by Adam Rupp "Adam" who is the back right for all the group shots. The other members do help with other sounds, like Rob singing the "dum dum doo" part through most of the song.
The song is very old and is a traditional American folk song first published by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. What is amazing about this version by Home Free | Man of Constant Sorrow is that it is acapella and the musical sounds of the drums, Jew's harp, mouth harp (harmonica) and beat box are all done by two singers in the band. Watch for them.
The guy who was singing he was born and raised in Kentucky was actually born and raised in Minnesota! So you were right, but the rest were Southerners! Home Free is A Cappella music, and they are one of the best ever. However, the greatest A Cappella group of all-time is called Pentatonix, with over 19 million subscribers on UA-cam!!! Check out Pentatonix, you really can't go wrong, but I would recommend their cover of "Gold", their original "Cracked", or any of their Evolution Of.... videos, such as The Evolution of Ariana Grande!! Enjoy!
I love that the first comment on an a capella song is calling out an instrument. Haha
Well yes and no, it was an acappela jews harp. So it was both.
Lol!😂hilarious!!

This style of music is known as Bluegrass and got started in the 1930's, and it came to prominence after world war 2. It's roots go back to folk music from rural southern states and the isolated communities in the Appalachian mountains.
So glad you did a reaction to Home Free. Can't wait to see more.
The genre is a Cappella. Many other groups but these guys are some of the best.
Home Free is an a'cappella band
This song is from the movie "O' Brother where art thou" George Clooney and several other great actors. Depression Era Mississippi. It's actually a parody of Homer's odyssey.
You should hear Home Free cover Boys 2 Men "end of the road"
They also have an amazing cover of "when a man loves a woman"
Actually the song was first written down in 1913, but is a lot older than that...
@@george217 yes it was written long ago.
Their first performance was in 2000! All Mankato boys at that time. Later these southern boys joined in
Florida girl here. I absolutely love y'all! The terrain in this video looked like Florida. Great reaction!
It's HILLBILLY BLUEGRASS
SANG ACAPELLA. ALL THE SOUNDS WERE MADE BY THEY'RE VOICES.
If you’d like a quick guide, you have:
Austin Brown: high tenor - the guy who started the lyrics first, long, curly, reddish hair - he’s from Tifton, Georgia and they met him when they were both performers on a cruise ship! (He was a theatrical singer, impressed them, and they eventually asked him to join - except with his Georgia accent back 😋 They feature his theatrical singing in Bring Him Home from Les Mis live on stage)
Rob Lunquist: second tenor - the guy on the side who also had the lead, long beard and glasses - he’s from Minnesota, and is the second-longest involved current member(I think he was local which is why they met him)
Tim Foust: bass - shoulder length brown hair, although he cut it recently, but I think his voice makes him identifiable enough - he’s from southeast Texas, and they met him through networking, the group went through a lot of really good basses, but couldn’t keep one, and Tim was singing for different a cappella groups(he also released a solo album after joining Home Free, some of the songs of which Home Fire has re-recorded)
Adam Rupp: beatboxer - easy enough to spot, but has blondish hair long or short - he’s from Mankato, Minnesota and cofounded the group with his brother Chris Rupp when they were in college.
Now when Tim sings lead they’re able to let him take bass without killing their baritone 😂 (if you want to know where he’s from, he’s from Alabama - also, Tim and Austin live in Nashville now, Adam and Rob live in Minnesota, and Chance lives in LA)
And Chris Rupp: past baritone - you’ll see him in older videos, bald or wearing a cowboy hat - he cofounded the group, but it was really his labor of love.
Avi Kaplan(the bass of Pentatonix)
They’re pretty unique in their country a capella style, when they won The Sing-Off(the same show that Pentatonix won), but they also extend to other genres : ) - Plus have an incredible sense of comedy that’s well worth a look.
I love your reaction when you realize that it's all "only" voices. Adam Rupp is crazy talented.
Early Take 6!!!
There also is Take 6, the greatest acapella group of all time, who are still around after over 30 years....
Wanna see versatility check out home free's cover of boys to men, End of the Road
But be forewarned...this is a rabbit hole of great music and insane musical talent. You could literally do 3-6months of reaction videos to just those 3 groups
them boy's have some kind of talent.
Do the cover of When a Man Loves a Woman!!! It slays! These boys had their way with that song!
all by voice. amazing isnt it. they do a lot of cool stuff, "end of the road" by "boys2men" is amazing too.
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer..he is amazing...check his Drum Solo ...he really shows off his talents...its hard beleive when you hear them thats there is no instruments but they are that good!
This song is country/blue grass mix. 100% instrument free.
"Oh Brother Where Art Thou" brought me here.
They are originally from Minnesota. Listen to their covers of “When A Man Loves A Woman” Percy Sledge, “Love Train” The O’Jays, “Never Gonna Give You Up” Rick Astley. And others.
Home Free is from Minnesota, but three of the singers are from the south: Tim - Texas, Austin - Georgia, Chance - Alabama.
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. He has been named the world's best beatboxer 2 years in a row. This is a folk song written in the first decade of the 1900s. Home Free is known as a "country" a capella group. This was basically a cover of the version used in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou.
You should check out them with The Oakridge Boys performing Elvira
Yep, 100% voices. Awesome song, enjoyed the viewing.
More Home Free please. Try their "Butts Remix".
I second THIS
I third this LOL
Lex is right! The Style/Genre is A’ capella, that means no instruments, all voices. Check out “Pantatonix” also a’ capella.. SanJoséBob
You can seriously go down a rabbit hole with Home Free
Like all well produced records, there’s after-affects, tuning, etc., but it’s all their voices 👍
The Rupp brothers formed the group in 2000 with their friend Matt Atwood. Rob joined in 2008.
You guys kill me🤣🤣🤣 love your reactions! 😂
It's all voice, and talking about voice, Tim Faust is a legend of a Bass singer, this song became famous from the movie" O brother where art thou " starring the Clooney dude, good movie,
you mean Foust ??
@@cindyshawver9986 probably, lol
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Home Free!! Loved your reaction
They do all genres. Listen to their version of Boys to men “ End of the Road “. and Justin Timberlakes “ Can’t stop the feeling “ Marin Morrison. “ My Church “
They have a big catalog. Note. They won the Sing off season 4. Voiceplay was in that competition to but got eliminated
Pentatonix won season 3. These are the three best groups
There are no instruments. It all done with their voices!👍 The origins is excellent. It was used in the movie Brother where art Thou. 100% all voice. That’s how good they are. Stuff like this is providence!
Yep, 100% of the instruments are coming from their voices including the drums.
Their "Wake me up" cover is 🔥 and Champagne Taste is an original.
Yep, all voices. Some major talent here!
Misty Mountains Cold by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust,
Ring of fire by Home Free.
Oggie boggies song by Voiceplay, Your a mean one Mr Grinch by Voiceplay, Sixteen tons by Geoff Castellucci. You wont be disappointed listening to these 👍🍻
She is EVERYTHING 😂😂❤❤so excited
Home free was originally from a singing competition which they won. At least where they started gaining fame. They do a bunch of covers from a bunch of different genres but are mainly country. And yes they don't use instruments beyond their voices. You should do their "American Pie" cover ft Don McLean the guy who originally sang it 50 years ago. Amazing group. Another good one is a cover "Mayday" by Cam
Home Free was formed 21 years ago, but was more of a hobby for many years.
@@tarjaikola not the group we see today lol
@@hitman9198 It’s the same group, but there has been some changes during the years.
I like their chemistry.. Awww.. what a sweet couple.
Yooo this version is awesome but the original is where the nostalgia kicks in!! (By original I meant, the oh brother where art thou version to clear up any confusion)
You've heard the original 1928 recording ??? Because that was the 1st known recording.
@@miamidolphinsfan Yea. I meant the oh brother where art thou version.
@@miamidolphinsfan beat me to it. I was going to say that wasn't even the original lol.
@Yance Taylor Well his aunt Rosemary was an opera singer, but George is completely unable to sing a note. Ironic.
acapella :)
@@miamidolphinsfan Thank you, I knew I didn't spell it right, but I'm old, sue me. I haven't been to school for 47 years. 🤔😎
The 1913 recording was by Dick Burnett in Kentucky, this was the first time it was recorded. The Stanley Brothers version was done in the 1950s. The song itself is probably two or three hundred years old.
@@RickZackExploreOffroad Thanks.
@@donjenkins3861 no ecuse my birthday is 06/23/1960
DAMN, i love watching Lex light up ! ! ! So many times through that whole video you kept getting surprised and i loved it.
The original is from the movie “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” with George Clooney. It’s good, and funny a different. You should check it out.
Great movie
It older than that.... Bob Dylan recorded it in 1961
@@sarahsizemore8651 It’s older than that😄 It is a traditional American folk song. It was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Dick Burnett dated to around 1913. An early version was recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928
Their End of the Road rendition is incredible. You'll love it,
The Didgeridoo sound that you mentioned is actually being done by the use of a mouth harp.
After a couple of minutes I realized the drums aren't drums.
This, to me, sounds like a blend of Cajon and Blue Grass. Very talented.
Welcome to the best "A Capella" group I've ever heard. Yes, not one instrument do they use, every sound is from their mouth even the drum beats.
Enjoy!
Have you heard of Pentatonix? They are even more awesome.
