Lew Stone really was one of the top bands in the 1930-1940:s. A fantastic band and wonderful solists. For example Joe Crossman, Monia Liter, Nat Gonella, Lew Davies among others.

Thank you for the upload. Almost certainly the greatest British band of the era. Amazing line up of talent, not least the wonderful gent, Lew himself.
What a beautiful and stunning lady, the late Joyce Stone.

I actually heard this broadcast on 2 November 1972, part of the BBC’s 50th anniversary. It was these programmes that led to there being a regular British Dance Band show on Radio 2 presented by Alan Dell and later Malcolm Laycock for around forty years. My memory played tricks for I was sure it was the first time I heard ‘Blue Jazz’ but it was ‘White Jazz’ that I knew by then. Although I have great regard for Casa Loma, I have always felt that Lew’s recordings of these Gene Gifford pieces had more spirit about them. Incidentally, it is curious that this programme has only about a tenth of the views that those of Ambrose and Henry Hall. A belated thank you for uploading.

Many singers today lack feeling - song and music is an interpretation - I feel today - with rap for example there is a sameness - and lack of true feeling - only my view -

How lovely to hear the warm affectionate tones of Alan Dell after so many years. Are there any recordings of his wonderful Dance Band Days broadcasts from the 60s?
