Thanks Jonathan. Two of my very favourite people,Alan Dell and Al Bowlly. I guess I heard this when it was first broadcast but had forgotten some of the recordings . I have many of these old tapes in my collection, perhaps I should put some up ,taking care not to duplicate yours. Thanks again for a lovely Sunday evening spent in a radio 2 time warp!
whenever I hear Al sing "Fancy our Meeting", I always picture that magical moment of Bob Hoskins singing it to Cheryl Campbell across a crowded pub in "Pennies from Heaven". "Dreaming" really is a most beautiful song too, isn't it?
April 2021 2nd Edition. In my middle age listening to the radio I was always entranced by the voice of Alan Dell to the point of adoration.I was very sad at the time of his death having recorded many of rhe two series of music programs.,Dance Band days and Sounds Easy..It was a very big dent in my radio listening of the period. April 2021 As a junior youngster I well remember my two older sisters love of Al Bowleys singing in the 1930s..I rather liked the dance bands even though I was only a youngster.I always liked music especially the swnig bands. T.Heslop. UK.
Arthur Briggs Savoy Synchop's Orchestra is my favorite band he recorded with, really like that one he did with Billy Cotton & the Sid Phillips & Melodians recordings.
