@@truebetold65 Thanks. First off, I remember that we were disappointed that Sullivan wasn't there personally to do their introduction. I remember that an off-stage announcer did the duties. Obviously the number was simply spliced into the actual show with Ed's intro. The audience (probably around 200), were enthusiastic and seated in folding chairs around this makeshift stage in the middle of the casino. I remember we moved on shortly after the Chamber's number because this wasn't like a normal show with one act after another introduced by Ed.

Yes, and the culture gap to get the "new" 1950s - 1960s music, and involving race, onto television, which was then only mainstream. Rather than judging him for what he couldn't do, by understanding the context what he did do can be appreciated. And most of the acts were live not lipsynced. Back in Athens, Ohio, in 1980, a local AM radio station, on Thursday nights, featured a disc jockey called "Boss Groover." Each week, at 8:00, he would play "Time Has Come Today," and my buddy Jesse and I would pull out the wine and other substances. RIP, Jesse. Those were some good times.
Great song and a great band. People had more talent back then. They really knew how to play instruments and sing. They didn't have to pre-record or alter the sound of their voices. This was real talent. You're awesome my cousins!!
The 1967 single was a Top 10 near-miss in America, spending five weeks at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1968. In Canada, the song reached No. 9. It is now considered one of the landmark rock songs of the psychedelic era. 😊
this is the kind of song that once you hear it, it changes your whole perspective on music. I remember hearing it for the first time, and it's still great
Looking back at the Ed Sullivan show, its amazing how bands had to cram long songs into TWO MINUTES. At least we got to SEE amazing bands, but can you imagine the stress of having only 2 minutes to make your mark in the world?
Wikipedia - Background edit The song has been described as psychedelic rock,[5][6] psychedelic soul[7][8] and acid rock,[9] and features a fuzz guitar twinned with a clean one.[10] Various other effects were employed in its recording and production, including the alternate striking of two cow bells producing a "tick-tock" sound, warped throughout most of the song by reverb, echo and changes in tempo. The long version quotes several bars from "The Little Drummer Boy" at 5:40. Writer Chuck Eddy includes the song in a list of examples of "pre-dub dub metal".[11]

I got my draft number two years later , " 46 " , I was going to be " somewhere in Saigon " , but the 2nd best President ever , Richard M. Nixon , stopped the draft . Saved me from making that decision of Vietnam or Canada ... other than that , a pretty good year . Ha !
