The mom in animal crossing is so comforting to me because she just sends you messages and gifts of love even though you never see her. Much like what I feel my relationship with my mom has become since she left this world. Very cool video thank you for it !!!!

I'm not going to lie, this was extremely hard to watch, when video game mothers treat you better than your actual mom did(did), I'm a grown boy now and I moved past the issues i had, shes has apologized and I let her know that I understand the situation she was in,
but the memories are still there so time to some reminiscing is gonna happen I suppose. Great video though.

I gotta say, fallout 4’s focus on parenthood was really a good addition to the whole “lets save the wasteland” trope. It made me feel like a parent when kellog wouldnt tell me where shaun was. A good video game mom character that comes to mind would be Naru from Ori and the Blind Forest. The entire 10 minute intro is dedicated to the story of Naru finding and raising Ori, showing the development of their relationships and the sacrifices Naru makes for her child. At one point she even travels through a hellscape of lava and fire just to see her child and confirm their safety, and you even get to play as her a couple of times throughout the game. She's an awesome video-game-mom-character! :)
The Shelter games also centers around motherhood, with you being a badger/lynx and having to protect your babies; feeding them and defending them from potential carnivorous predators. It's two (soon to be three) of the few games, where you very specifically get to play as a mother throughout the whole game.
Mom’s in the early Pokémon games are legends. They give their kids the only bedroom in their house and deal with crippling inflation in a deceptively technologically advanced dystopia. They also deal with a housing crisis. Later games aren’t as affected by crippling inflation though, but they also push you out less

Among the sleep is a very good example of a haunting horror game that plays on trauma and the fear of the dark, the smallness and vulnerability of you makes the world seem so much scarier. Even if the shadow you see in the corner is a trenchcoat. It could be so much more. That's a good example of a concept I'm not sure we have seen too much else of. (At least to my knowledge) also I know it was an example of a "bad mom" but she was sad and she still cared for child but i think it also goes to show the struggles moms have to go through internally.

I always liked at the end of the Pokemon games you're back at your house after defeating the Champion. Especially in FireRed/LeafGreen and R/S/E where your character is shown running home throughout the region. It was really sweet to be back at your house with your mother after so long away from her.

Medical techniques mitigate the chance of said potential mortality. Combine this with modern medicine in general and you have a high polulation increase cause babies aren't dying nearly as much as say a couple hundred years ago.

Citizens of Earth had a pregnant yoga instructor as a party member you can pick up and she was pretty powerful too! I also don't know if it entirely counts as it is based on a TV show, but OK KO! Let's Play Heroes not only lets you put KO's mom on your team, but she is pretty overpowered AND tells KO she loves him every time she's used in a battle.

I was just talking about moms in games yesterday while watching my fiance play God of War. Moms are seen as more nurturing by default so there's no "coming to terms with responsibility and being a positive role model for this kid" like in "dad (figure) games" (Bioshock Infinite, the recent GOW, Last of US). As much as I want more variety in character dynamics, it's a lot less easy to identify with as a player. It's not like we're going to see a mom and childless aunt fighting demons to protect their son while learning to love each other again in games. That'd be interesting, but way too risky as a narrative especially in a triple A title.
I agree but they have to use that exact narative. Theres plenty of different angles to go from.
