I was excited about The Division when they announced it because it looked like the closest thing to Escape From New York in a videogame form. They should've gone all in and populated the city with crazy gangs of cannibals and crackheads, used destroyed landmarks as notable locations and made the story a morally gray mission by a corrupt government. You could side with some gangs to guarantee safety in certain locations, but you'd always be vulnerable and low on resources, making scavenging, stealth, dirty jobs and even stealing from other players a necessity. Basically a mix of STALKER, MGS and DayZ, all set in a postapocalyptic New York. Add some sweet-ass 80's synth soundtrack and you've got one hell of a game.
I actually had a scrapped line from the intro where I also mentioned Escape from New York and then made a dumb metal gear pliskin joke
I was literally about to post a comment mentioning this. Glad to think others had a similar idea. Escape From New York is a fantastic movie that deserves a video game of it's own.

0:37 that’s always been my thing about games that level enemies.
Think about this... IF, everytime my character levels up, every single enemy in the game “levels up” (gets more life and increased damage, but otherwise stays the exact same)... what is really the point of leveling outside of gaining new skills?
If you’re going to scale-level enemies with the player why not have the player and enemies stay at the same health from beginning to end of the game and just grant new skills upon leveling up?
It’s like an arbitrary and unnecessary addition Devs make to reinforce the idea that you’re progressing, while also realizing that they didn’t put enough enemy varieties into the game to give you new, stronger ones to fight as you get stronger...
And that’s the problem with that approach, you never feel as powerful as you should feel, because the game scales enemy levels and power to compensate for your power and HP.

This is exactly why I love his videos. It reminds me of when me and my friends would get in trouble in school for talking too much during class about how cool we think a certain game will be when it comes out or how amazing it could've been if the developers tweaked some things around. As we've gotten older I don't think we really have the time to dive deep into games anymore like we used to; at least I know I don't.

I'm only suggesting this because you said that you'd love the game that he described, so I'm positive that you'll enjoy dying light a shit ton. A suggestion from a gamer who is also a huge fan of these types of survival openworld games. And an added bonus to dying light, it's got full Parkour mechanics similar to Mirror's edge. But unlike mirror's edge, it's completely openworld, so you can climb anything that you see instead of the read highlighted stuff.
Also, they just recently announced Dying Light 2 and I couldn't be mkre excited. You can check out the teaser trailer for that game to somewhat understand what kind of game it's gonna be. And I'm sure that you will immediately see some similarities to this video in the teaser.

Playing Dying Light 2 right now, I know you mentioned at the end you played the first one and I absolutely agree it’s not really anything like what you described but the second one feels close in a lot of ways, specifically what you mentioned about climbing up the sides of buildings, you can wander into many of the floors of the skyscrapers in 2 and just find zombies sleeping in the dark, it feels straight out of I am legend and it’s such a cool feeling!
Today, I saw The Division on sale, I was about to buy it, but then I decided to look at reviews and just left it there. Then my next thought, was "It would be great if Jakey dropped a video before Christmas !" The stealthiness and secret passages everywhere combined with a bunch of parkour around a post apoctalyptic city, with dozens of active events like snowstorms and high tide(Flooding the lower city) while also having variable enemy control in response to your actions
Oh yeah, and a ton of factions that all fight each other inhabiting different microbiomes within the city like an overgrown crysis looking setting, broken down waterfront, mostly intact snowy bit

Yesterday my friends and I were talking about how the aesthetic of the division was so nice but the game was unenjoyable.
One thing i will say for some time the dark zone was the most fun dynamic pvp world to have ever come into any video game ever. The tension of seeing the gray tags of other players for hours with nothing happening ,yet when someone tries to extract multiple teams looking at each other like some western stand off. Everyone just waiting for someone else to make a false move or make a mistake they can exploit. Engaging in manhunts and alerting the whole map of your location. Taking on the whole sever with a group of buddies and utilizing the dilapidated infrastructure of post apocalyptic New York. My favorite by far was going into the subway systems underground and holding out until we use out knowledge of the map above to make it out in an advantageous position for our situation.
Just wanted to say that your videos have a great sense of personality to them. I can't tell you how nice it is to actually see the person speaking in these types of videos. Putting a face to the voice plays a huge role in continuing to view your stuff.

Ths division probably COULD HAVE been the pioneers of the whole "Battle royal" trend currently going on. They would have easily perfected it because the game is already set up to ve that way. A sequel to the division with the battle royal game mode would most likely make the game 10x better.

i was in the division Reddit about 9 months before release every day. the things we imagined in there were wild, the hype was real, and we were hoping the devs were listening. they were not.
it is my belief that the very original concept (based on the early marketing material) was about sleeper agents who already lived in districts (or divisions) of NYC were activated to prevent crime organizations joining forces and getting too powerful by climbing the ranks internally and constantly flaming a turf war while minimizing collateral damage against the innocent. Basically, CIA level destabilization to keep people in Chitown against hell's kitchen, against queens, against Brooklyn etc.
I believe that was the original premise, and that is why it was called "the division". Sleeper cell neighborhood residents who have enough street cred, facetime, and military experience to climb the mafia ranks without raising suspicion and keep crime families divided until the military could take control again.
This would mimic a "for honor" war map system or MGSV PMC PVP or something like "hell divers" world map. The missions would be client-side so that it always looked like you were doing the right thing, and others were doing the wrong thing. Obviously, it would be a tower of babel mechanic, where anytime one side gets too close to reaching the top the house of cards collapses and start again.
So if you need to "repair a generator" in the next district over to build stability/respect among the locals, players and NPCs would be sent to stop you in a control point style match. But on their end they are defending their power from you cutting it off. Need to deliver food to starving people in midtown? to other players your delivering poison or something to ruin the food. Every good deed you do is an evil deed to someone else, and in this way, agents forever each other fight to protect their own "division".
While marching in your neighborhood everything is safe, and when you go elsewhere it is a warzone. So you set up safe houses and stash goods. the more districts you maintain safe houses in, the better your "recruitment" strength is for your base state, so it always feels like you are rescuing innocent people from tyrannical districts.
i have no clue why it was presented the way it was. perhaps working withing a criminal gang wasn't on-brand with tom clancy? maybe they ran out of time or could not find the right balance to the gang/district system. All I know is that the rogue agent story was trash. I was so hyped for that game and maybe played it 3 weeks after giving it up.

The "here's some shit" videogames are the gaming equivalent of what I call "Just drink your beer, man" movies. Movies riddled with plotholes, or that don't make sense, but due to their high entertainment value it's as if they were telling you "just drink your beer and don't question it". I think I came up with it while watching Dr. Strange and smoking hash.
The only thing I feel like would make this video work better with The Division... is by removing the infected, zombie-like runners. I'm thinkin' have infected humans that can wield melee weapons and even guns that they managed to scavenge... having more rage-like symptoms and, of course, not bullet sponges.

I'm still upset over this game. I was SO hyped about it, had been ever since the announcement in 2013. Played it for a month after release with my then-girlfriend. It was a good time, but after a while the lack of content and creativity ground away at our enjoyment of the game and eventually ended up breaking us up hahahaha kill me
But for real, this game had loads of potential. Shame.
You should check back these days. It's obviously not like the game hot boy Jakey described, but they added a lot of content with the 1.8 update.

there's so much potential with those high rise buildings. every room should be accessible with a working elevator for some floors and it doesn't work for others.
What i liked about The Division is that Ubisoft didn't give up on trying to fix the game. by the end of it's life cycle there's a lot to do and barely any bugs. All the gamebreaking bugs from Day 1 were patched out. They even nerfed enemy health so it no longer takes all of your ammo to kill one boss. At most it'll take about 2 magazines from an AR with low DPS if you're on Hard. The Expansions such as Survival and Underground were great add-ons that gave you more reasons to come back and play it because both of them offered a new experience each time you played with Survival having random elements thrown into each run like different weapons and armor. And Underground having procedural generated levels and random Hunter ambushes that kept you on your toes and tested your shooting and build skills. Plus the free content such as Incursions, an even larger DZ because they added a 9th area to the DZ, Resistance, Skirmish, and Legendary Missions kept me coming back to improve my builds, master them, and optimize everything with the resources i was given.
Those 3 silent hill notes are super spooky... Brrrr

No, it's a lot better. It's fun, has major mission variety, uses that verticallity depth, the enemies progress in smartness and variety rather than just more armor, overall it's extremely fun.

I live in canada and i will say that if you are constant running around in a blizzard you will not be as cold as you think you will be, work up a sweat you stay warm, stand still you get colder.

What I love about your content is that I keep seeing your older vids in my recommendations and they all slap like a groovy ass bass. All your supply save point system would do is discourage players from stopping a session whenever they feel comfortable, resulting in not only player frustration from more casual gamers who don’t have time for long sessions where they can gather enough resources for that expenditure to be worth it, it would also result in massive amounts of burnout and most likely a very steep and fast player base drop.
I was watching this dude's videos and I figured out that it would be hilarious if jakey made a video the normal way he does it but he edits himself to be spinning the whole time
