Seattle has never torn down a stadium without irreversible structural issues, Climate pledge hadn't held a big 4 sports game in 13 years before the Kraken showed up even though the stadium was built in 1960. I was surprised when the REAL Yankee Stadium (The House That Ruth Built) was demolished for the pretender that exists today. It's up there with the demolition of Penn Station in the 1960's to build Madison Square Garden as travesties to historic architecture. Twenty-five years ago, I considered Yankee Stadium there with Fenway Park and Wrigley Field as all-time icons. Maybe there were factors I didn't know about that made keeping up the old stadium impossible or impracticable but it was a loss to baseball nonetheless. I don't think we'll ever see a stadium that saw as many World Series (37) or titles (26) as Yankee Stadium. The new stadium has just 1 back in the year it opened (2009). You are gone but not forgotten.

Kauffman Stadium SHOULDN'T be endangered but is because the asshole owner wants a downtown stadium with an entertainment district built around it that he will own as well, all on the taxpayer dime of course. The Chiefs and Royals stadium issue is combined and Jackson county Missouri resident will vote on whether to extend the current 3/8 cent sales tax to pay for Arrowhead's renovation and Kauffman's replacement. If it fails to pass one of the biggest reasons is John Sherman's insistence he get a new ballpark downtown instead of renovating a perfectly good Kauffman stadium.

The ones I'd take out of tweener are mainly T-Mobile Park which definitely isn't going anywhere in the next 2 decades. Minute Maid Park, Miller Park, Great American Ballpark, Loan Depot Park, Angel Stadium, and I have no idea why you hate Chase Field so much? Chase Field is extremely beautiful, and was ahead of its time. The situations that I'm definitely looking at will be White Sox stadium which is clearly moving to downtown Chicago soon, Comerica Park which has a renovation situation, but could easily be replaced too, and Rogers Centre might get another huge renovation sooner than we think as Toronto could still be working on getting the Olympics there in the 2030s. One thing that I disagree with. Renovations extend the life of ballparks. Had the extensive renevations to the original Yankee Stadium not happened in the '70s, the park probably would've been replaced and demolished sometime between 1980 and 1990, instead of 2009. Fenway and Wrigley have had a number of renovations each, and they're going to stick around for a long time to come. So pointing out all the renovations that many of these parks have had in his "tweener" or "endangered" groupings are is funny, since that's what's going to make them stick around a few decades longer.

I have not gone back and reread the story, so I am going by memory here. Anyway, it is my understanding that when the University of Kentucky built Kentucky Proud Park that it was designed and built with sustainability in mind. A large percentage of materials used were recycled materials. A large percentage of materials were sourced from within a certain radius. I believe that it was designed to minimize things like water use and electric power use. Etc.
We should be discussing the same things about MLB stadiums. Keeping, renovating or replacing stadiums should be done with sustainability in mind. We don't hear anything about that in the above video. It is all about aesthetics, attendance, age, history, reputation, ownership situation, etc.
After revenue and player and fan safety the deciding consideration should be sustainability. I say that any stadium that is in safe condition should be renovated or repurposed, not replaced, and the renovation should be done to make everything more ecologically friendly. For example, create more shaded areas and play more games during the day. If seating capacity is going to be reduced, while you are at it replace the remaining chair seats that are made of plastic or whatever it is with seats made from bamboo. Etc.

Don't eat Rob Manfred's stupid pills when it comes to the state of Miller Park...sorry, the Pabst Palace...oops, American Family Field. There isn't a bad seat in the house, the facilities were in good shape as of the last game I attended there (in the middle of last year), and the tailgating experience is still second to none.
Mark Attanasio is a cheapskate owner a tier or two above abjectly awful people like John Fisher, John Angelos, and Bob Nutting, and I suspect he's asked Rob Manfred to declare the stadium to be obsolete because he wants a shiny new stadium with more luxury boxes, an even more team-friendly lease deal, and a nearby baseball district - and if that process ends with the team moving to California or Texas or somewhere else with more taxpayer money than they know what to do with, I'm sure that's quite fine by him. That would be the only reason the stadium might be at risk of no longer hosting MLB ball...a greedy owner upset at the poor local TV revenue situation, nothing inherently wrong with the facility itself.

We sat like 10 rows back beside the visitors dugout and if we sat looking forward in our seats we were looking at a space 10 feet behind the second base bag. The person in front of us had to sit literally sideways to not crook their neck to watch the pitcher. So many stadiums angled the seats BEFORE Busch was designed that this is just inexcusable.

I laugh at most of the assertions of OBSOLETE you claim... I look differently at a stadium... it's obsolete for 1 of 2 reasons... 1. The field itself is unplayable... (see Astrodome)... 2. The stadium is unsafe for fans.... The Brewers park is showing some issues on this... but not as bad as MLB and the Brewers claim... I think MLB and the Teams are their own worst enemies... These Stadium Districts they want are actually killing them... why? They are trying to squeeze every last time from the fans nightly. Problem: They are not leaving the fans with enough money for 81 home dates.. leading to empty ball parks.. They want fans to consider the game an all-day event... for the NFL with 8/9 home dates/year and 1 game/week... that's great... for MLB.. 81 home date... The "event" gets seriously watered down by the end of April. Then, making the stadiums smaller... only gives the appearance of a sellout.. and the teams an excuse to raise ticket prices because they are fewer.. except... the more they tarp seats/take them out... more and more fans are staying home.. they are being priced out. I reckon that soon, Cities will start to see that MLB is it's owner worst enemy and stop building the baseball cathedrals... Baseball was at it's peak when most towns had their own teams and MLB was not a big draw on TV.. Well, cities will start to realize.. MLB needs them MORE than they need MLB.. and something tells me Oakland is going to become the first of many who realize this. And the bigger the city... the less the THREAT to move will phase them...
