This is my #1 all-time favorite song ever. My husband, when we began dating, wanted to impress me. He knew this was my favorite song & he learned to play in on pedal steel guitar. This was my late teen/early 20s years. I had such a crush on Steve (R.I.P.) back then. I was fortunate to meet them a few years ago. They stayed in the hotel I worked that was near the concert venue. I had been called to help with room checkouts because we were in the process of a full checkout/full check in and I hadn't been there 10 min when they came around the corner to turn in their keys (got to touch Joe's hand..ack! lol). Anyway, while I closed out their rooms, Phil asked me was I going to be at the concert that night. Lobby full of people, NOBODY recognized them, and I didn't give a f*ck. I said HELL YEA! Hehehehe! Awesome band to see live, even all these years later!!

The days after as some of the worse. On a downward spiral for 2 years before i met my wife. The tour of course was extra special with Rick Allen making his comeback on the drums after his horrible car accident, the place just went nuts when he came out and for his drum solo. Tesla was the opener for them on this tour in Phoenix and they were also fantastic and it was the start of a lifelong relationship with Def Leppard. Need to check out the track "Song and Emotion" from Tesla, the tribute track to Steve Clark, after he passed away in 1991.

I had the great fortune to be a teenager at this time in the 80s. I listened to all kinds of rock music. We had a teenage nightclub locally that catered to kids ages 13 - 20 -- and two of the largest sets there were the metalheads and the hip hop kids. The DJ played music all night -- the heads would headbang to our stuff and the hip hop kids would dance to theirs. No fights, no problems ever. We secretly loved one another's music -- DEF LEP was one of the hip hop kids' favorites. In fact, many of us still know each other and talk on FB all the time and we are in our late 40s and early 50s now. This particular song was one of the favorite slow dance jams for us heads and everyone else back at TPs (that was the club's name).

I was playing in a rock back during this time. Def Leppard was probably my favorite rock sound in the 80s. They had amazing pop tunes that were killer rock anthems. The next guys to come close was Nirvana. Pop-rock with killer guitars, bass, drums, vocals, BUT with a tune you can always sing along with!

Ive been to their concert, and when Hysteria track was about to end, they ended it with "Heroes" by David Bowie, and thats another reason why Hysteria is such a great song! And right in the feels man, this is me and my Hubbys song, but were separated now due to all this crazyness going on now...I cant wait to get closer to him!! (Def Lep, was our first concert together and also our first concert ever)
And now that you mentioned the spiritual connection, I think its a bit like that when you meet someone you just click immediately, a God sent miracle!

I would say that this song is more about finding that special person that ticks all your boxes, and how doing so feels supernatural. Like a miracle has occured. Sometimes when expressing feelings like that to someone it can easily come off as just another chat up line, and he's trying everything he can think of to convey his sincerity. I would say that the words magic, and miracle are being used as metaphors for how he feels when this person is near.
