To be real, I honestly believe in the personalization in this specific way: when you're a kid, you play a lot of Mario 64. Because you're playing so much, you begin to dream about it. In these dreams, new and strange things happen. I think that sometimes in thinking back to when we were a kid, we can somehow recall these dreams, and begin to wonder if it was a real memory or not. Our minds create the personalization.
@TheLuigifan8881 the only dream I had recently was wamuu digging up Polanereff and Kakyoin's bootyhole while young Johnathan Joestar was running to save them while in some desolated castle. I watch too much Jojo...
I still don’t know how I remember the brain painting as the wet dry world painting exactly if it happened to be a dream. It was weird, I hadn’t played the game in years and I went back to play after watching this and the painting for WDW is a fucking skidderbug?! I don’t understand how that could be a dream.
lmaoo i had a dream ab this secret level where if you walked forward from the castle entrance (outside) then there's a pathway and theres a secret level. in this secret level it was just a pathway for a star (like the one to enter the castle) but the star was on some huge wall. the dream was so vivid and after i woke up it messed with my head for like 2 minutes
I mean didnt he say it only tortures those who believes it exists? I’m probably not the only person who doubts an infinitely powerful AI that transcends time is a real thing.
I mean, I like to believe that there are good AIs. Like, it's just that the topic of AI in itself is all so interesting... Then again, there is such a thing as good and evil. This AI seems to have turned evil (if it wasn't before), like from being given too much power or whatever. That being said, I will choose to never think about this one AI.
This fits the atmosphere of Mario 64 perfectly. The game always had this empty and ominous feel to it like there was something else hidden below the surface.
Imagine how someone found the 1-up in the Tall Tall mountain slide, who would’ve thought to go to the four corners of the starting room and turn the camera to see the 1-up
@@gumbyisaac I mean, that's sort of what happened with kid me. Or at least it must have, since I treated SM64 like a big fuck-around sandbox. Doing dumb pointless shit that would accidentally trigger stuff was pretty common, in my recollection.
In case anyone was wondering, the reason the playable 1995 beta build has no basement is because the basement was blocked off to protect the population from becoming infected by the effects that would ensure if they witnessed the many strange effects in the basement.
As a software engineer that develops A.I and complex machine learning. It is nearly impossible that the game would have this sort of exicution power as it would literally defy the laws of physics. You see the game nor the hardware contains a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the cpu power or storage space required to pull off a complex learning algorithm. IF any of this did occur then its a flaw in our reality and would only mean that we are living in a simulation and this game is a easter egg to our simulation.

@@expendableindigo9639 When I first watched this video (legit the day it was posted) was the same day I found out about the iceberg and all these strange theories. So when giving this a first watch I was still trying to figure out where this all came from.
One time Mario looked at the screen, killed himself and a song of him saying Hey Stinky played until I turned it off I then had 80 strokes, 20 heart attacks and died 10 times
I keep seeing comments about a knocking around the seven minute mark. I didn’t notice one. The only explanation is that every version of this video is personalized.
Now that "L is real 2401" is really real... The Hundredth Monkey Effect is very relevant... Who said it first, some random kid... Or Nintendo themselves?
It’s even creepier since the day the found Luigi was 24 years and 1 month(2401)after the game came out. It somewhat adds flames to the “The game is catered to the players desires” theory. It really makes you ask, was the Luigi leak planned by an ultimate unknown force or was it just a pure coincidence? PS They found him on July 25th 2+4+0+1 = 7 July is the 7th month of the year 24+01 = 25 July 25th!!!
Notice anything about the gameplay footage that seems off? Leave a comment on the video with a timestamp, and a team of lore experts will take a look and try and do some research... Best of luck...
This made me very fearful and uncomfortable in my own home, if you have any mental health issues make sure you watch this in the midday! Great video doe
Oh, but there is a hint. "Blast Away The Wall". Those who were looking for the star were most likely hitting every wall in the course, thinking that the star was in them. This is the most likely explanation for the hidden 1-up. The four corner 1-ups on the other hand do not have a clear hint towards them.
Might be a kid roleplaying. I did that when I was younger. I played through a few courses and stars with my own imagined story. Even pretended as if there were new boss fights. Could have easily been some vital point in a kids imaginative story to turn the camera at that point and by chance, that's where the 1-up is.

The mention of ‘Dreams’ and ‘Nightmares’ is in fact true because I have experienced it myself. It started a couple weeks back when I was laying down in the dark (stupid idea) watching Greenio’s sm64 personalised videos. A couple nights when I’ve been asleep I’ve had nightmares from the videos but I just don’t know how to explain or remember exactly what happened in these nightmares. But all I can remember is the horrible, terrifying screams and music from these videos and moments of luigi… Baring in mind these nightmares were in a perspective of the game itself but I wasn’t sitting infront of a tv screen or computer but almost like I was in the game running around behind Mario experiencing all these terrifying moments. But luckily I haven’t had anymore of these dreams and nightmares. Sorry for this huge essay of a comment btw lol :)
Just in case this blows up sometime soon, I'm writing a note here. I want everyone to know that this whole thing took off in late May of 2020, and I've been on the ride since. The Wario Apparition and Personalized Copies might seem like hot new memes, but genuinely, as simple and fun as it might sound, there was something far far much more deeper than just a couple online jokes, and we were there to experience it all. This video is like a time capsule of everything we went through together. I know I'm gonna be looking back on it in three, five, even ten years, who knows. It's been a great and honestly kind of unsettling ride. It's wonderful, and I hope in the future a couple people can look back at this and see Mario 64 lore and theorycrafting for exactly how simultaneously horrifying and hilarious it all is, and for the other fact.. that it's all real
This community can be overwhelming at times, but having a video that easily rounds up what it’s all about is always nice to have. You didn’t over complicate anything here and made it both intriguing and enveloping to new and common viewers alike. Kudos to you and thanks!

This would be an amazing horror story. A guy who’s copy of Mario 64 is personalized and starts to become insane as Wario starts to overtake him and starts seeing the brain everywhere. Infecting everyone around him with shared nightmares and overall negative emotion.
All the ROM hack footage in this video was really well-done. It had that perfect creepy factor where it's very close to the original, but then has sudden glaring differences that catch you off guard.
I’m loving this new era of online creepypasta. I’ll look back on this one proud for being a part of it. If only I had an N64 when I was younger, the effect would really mesh with me and feel a lot more immersive. Even now, playing M64 gives me new ideas for the whole iceberg theory- as well as explanations for other, preexisting theories. Keep it up internet. There’s nothing else to do.
Playing the game and than finding one of the enemies you encountered to no longer be in the "Final Game" is interesting to say the least. The Chill Bully Minions is what I'm referring too,
Holy crap the knocking at the penguin bit got me good. My closet door is in the perfect spot that it sounded like it came from it. Stopped the video and didn't have the courage to replay the video until several minutes later and then I realized the knocking was in the video. Well done Steffy ya scared the **** out of me.
I really like that the first point in the theory is that there's no way to know about the 1-up in Whomp's Fortress, as if games like Doom and Duke Nukem didn't have secret doors that players had no way to figure out other than mashing the use button on every surface since 1990
Alright, what about this. Quite a few years ago I would have frequent dreams that clearly involve this game. I was mario but in first person. The textures of the castle were the same with identical floors and walls. The difference was the same room I was taken to. A long and incredibly tall castle room with both large and small paintings scattered throughout. I can only remember one and I was a cloud-like area. Think of the secret flying area in the foyer but much larger and with no castles in sight. Strangely enough I had the exact dream so frequently that it was committed to memory.
I remember when I was little I used to just run around in the courtyard and in front of Peach’s castle, without a care in the world. Just staring at the screen for countless hours locked up in my own fun-land. This was a legendary game….

Edit: This is made to calm down people who got scared of this at like 3am or something, if you know its fake, dont read it lol In this comment, I'm going to try show you how this is all just a fake creepypasta to scare you. Wet dry world There isnt even a brain diagram in the files of the game, even in the newer source leak. He also uses a ton of overly complex pseudo science to explain the feeling of wet dry world instead of simply explaining "the world is very closed in and feels claustrophobic". The beta penguins This one is very easy to explain. Someone makes creepy story. Person is scared by creepy story. They think about the creepy story all day. They might have a dream about creepy story. This obviously wouldn't happen with everyone, but maybe with some people. Wario apparition This one is just a meme, there is no actual proof of it other than "guy said it true, must believe guy" and him saying the word "builds" and "beta" to give off the old=scary effect. The one image people use to try give proof to it was part of a Nintendo conference where Wario insults the game "you think this is fun? You got to be coocoo crazy! *You want fun? Wario show you fun!"* , he then shows a ton of arcade games and stuff before the video ends. The "subconscious thoughts" part also makes no sense, why doesn't a massive bowser, or any childrens character in their thoughts chase them? Why specifically wario? You can also look at some memes about it to see just how absurd it is. The end of the video Literally just a ton of pseudo scientific terms to try make it sound more real. So yeah, this is all just dumb stuff to scare you. I wrote this just for people who were actually scared by this, I know a lot of people already know this is fake.
I can explain that the every copy of mario 64 is personalized thing is real IN A WAY. A real example of this is shown in the race levels of koopa or the big penguin. If you take a shortcut on those races. Theyll call you out on their dialogue. This little change in dialogue that was dependant on your actions is already personalizing a game for a group of people that takes a shortcut
@@baxstar1699 I've seen you comment this same thing like 3 times already. That is not personalization as it is hard coded into the game that Koopa will say that if you take a certain path.
Think of it like a train track. Unless someone switches the tracks and you follow on another track, you'll keep going straight just like the game intended too, but if you DO take another track, that was also supposed to happen. You cannot say a game is "Personalized" if everyone can experience the exact same scenario effortlessly
Okay but no joke, I'm learning new concepts from this video (example: The Hundredth Monkey Effect). And let's face it: Do *any* of us remember who first revealed that 1-Up? And now with the whole "L is Real" thing suddenly becoming legit, who was the first to actually reveal that? Like I know this is all a creepypasta, but some of this does raise some legit questions, y'know? Anyways, nice video that explains what this is all about!
@@infyre3728 It says in the video, infohazards. Information you might not want to know, maybe like if you're a sleeper agent its a warning they might reference your training and then you'll flashback.
I feel a game that's personalized based on the choices you make can be incredibly interesting. Something loosely based on the idea is in Pokemon Yellow. The evolution his Eevee gets depends on your actions in your two first battles. If you lose both battles, his Eevee becomes Vaporeon, the easiest to fight. If you lose one of the battles, his Eevee becomes Flareon, the nuetral option. But if you win both battles, his Eevee becomes Jolteon, the hardest for your starter Pikachu to battle. I find this fascinating. I would love to see a game that is entirely based on choices made by the player. I mean, Undertale has the right idea, but you can still have the exact same adventure as anyone simply by not killing anything, or doing the opposite. No, I mean a game that starts out familiar to everyone, and little details begin to change as you make progress and make choices. Based on how you play, your experience could be completely different than someone else's. Creepy, but fascinating, and also could be possible, depending on how far and deep you want it to personally effect things.
Ok, so I know this is a joke and all, but there's something something that I've always noticed. My original copy of Super Mario 64 had mario lack squares of its model when under the effect of the invisibility cap. I remember this perfectly, like a checkerboard pattern to convey the translucid effect. In the wii virtual console this wasn't the case, and instead it was a smooth, transparent model. I booted the original N64 game to prove my point to a friend a while back, and it wasn't a checkerboard pattern, it was smooth and transparent. I played this game like every day for most of my childhood, and I'm really sure I'm not misremembering. My guess used to be that it may look different on a CRT. So I hooked it up to an old TV, but nothing, still smooth. Then I remembered something. The cartridge that I used to play with is not the same that I have now. The other one was owned by a friend of my brother, who lend it to us indifinitely since he had already moved on to the dreamcast by the time I got to play the N64. We returned it to him at some point, and he changed places several times and lost his n64 and games since. Maybe there was a revision of the game? Also, I'm talking about the PAL version, since I live in Spain. EDIT: I've searched around in youtube, and there's a TAS by pannenkoek where you can see the checkerboard pattern. It's called "SM64 - Vanish Cap Under the Moat (and Cap Switch Pressed) - 0x A Presses ".
This is called the Nelson Mandela effect. It is EXTREMELY RARE to have a cart from both universes in the same one. Count yourself lucky. In my universe Judi Dench died a couple months after making Skyfall, it was her last movie and here apparently she is still alive and well despite me remembering very well her death. You can switch universes several times in your lifetime and it can be quite unnerving when you realize how much stuff has changed just from 20 or even 10 years ago. Pikachu black tail is one a lot of people recognize as proof that the Nelson effect is real.
@@Jurt0E It means somehow the people that crossed over in this universe (the one in which the texture is smooth) brought over their Mario 64 cartridges. Roms do not mean much because anyone can hack them. In this specific case however it is possible that there are several Mario 64 versions, I know for sure that this happened with Zelda OOT so maybe it did with Mario 64 too.
I'm sorry to spoil your fun but I can imagine mario walking back out of the ground just fine. All I have to do is imagine that he's on an invisible plane that ends up back on top of the ground in a smooth way.
Ok now I'm actually confused. This whole "every copy is personalized" meme is going on for some time now. I know that the source code for the game got leaked like 2 days ago but was there actual evidence for this theory or are people still only memeing about it?
What a weird creepypasta. With all creepypasta it is extremely easy to tell they are fake, but the amount of detail and pseudo-scientific babble in this one is just bizarre
By “You can’t imagine him getting out of the ground” I can’t imagine Mario coming out of the ground, but I can imagine another Mario spawning in and walking around just fine??
The thing you said about mario falling: I didn’t get that feeling when thinking him of mario running. However! I’ve been doing backflips like for 8 years now. I’ve never failed doing one on the ground. But for some reason when ever i think me doing one I just can’t think of it landing and thus I’d always brake my neck. It’s a really weird feeling and i assume there is a connection. Any of you guys have a feeling about something always failing and can’t do nothing about it?
I closed my eyes, and Mario fricking pulled a backflip. I SWEAR IT WAS THE GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN, HE WAS IN THE SKY I WAS SITTING THERE CRYING AND GETTING SO EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO MARIOS EPIC SICK TRICKS
I remember one time, I was at this place called DraftCade, and at DraftCade, they had a Nintendo 64 hooked up on a tv, and you could ask for a cartridge, they would give it you, and you could play. I was play Mario 64, and I remember one of the paintings in peach’s castle, which normally was one you couldn’t enter, could be entered. And I remember this huge level, it was like, a swamp with a big statue in the middle. It was pretty fun, and since my family were playing the arcade games, and the employees were just chilling since they didn’t have to do much, nobody asked me about the level. After a bit of playing, I couldn’t figure out how to beat the level, so I exited the level, saved, and took out the cartridge. I then went to play some digdug. I wonder if any of you have seen that level before. If so, could you tell me what you saw in it?
I was playing mario 64 when I was like 6 yrs old and mario called me a dumbass and told me not to tell my mom. Why would nintendo be so neglectful and put out such a dangerous product?
Man, I just love shit like this. I don't care how much of it is real, fake, whatever, but it's bringing me back to the days where I was all about this gaming conspiracy stuff. Awesome video.
Maybe this avoids bad vibes I used this creepypasta for scaring my brother and it worked, but now he's sleeping like a baby somehow... Don't afraid friend,it's all fake for fun, even you feel scared don't watch fake beta videos...This fear is not effective, you'll get over it 1-2 days later.

@@hajdxhjjdjshsh2644 Mhm yes it is..We know. Something doesnt have to be real for something to be unsettling. Like the fact that you may simply know some information about something, puts you at risk in some sort of unseen danger. Its an unsettling thought.
I feel like this also has something to do with why alot of people are more scared of certain parts of the game than others. Which means this might explain how the hell people can get scared by that piano when others like me aren’t.
I get absolutely scared the shit out of by most things(long hallways, vast areas, frowning, etc)and even I can’t understand how people get scared by the piano
I don't get scared by the piano either. But i do get kinda creeped out by how empty the game is and how lonely it is. They should have added more character in the game.
I feel like they personalized it on purpose, to keep this game vividly in your memories. So you could remember this game as an adult, so you could buy their games and remakes more, because you had such memories of the game as a kid.
I remember when I first watched this, when you started to to talk about the penguins appearing in your dreams genuinely frightened me enough to not watch the rest of the video for some reason. I’ll probably watch it fully in a bit but at the moment I’m a bit busy so I can’t.

I absolutely love this iceberg lore. It's even interested me in booting up my old copies of the game and making new discoveries such as what appears to be giant creepy stone goombas with hollow crying/bleeding eyes in the Skybox of Bowser in the Dark World. I have an image of it to link to if anyone is curious. That said, I do have some issues with the lore presented. The every copy of Mario 64 is personalized bit seems to assume you only had access to one copy of the game on N64, growing up. This isn't actually true in my case, though. My memaw loved Mario a lot and bought my family an N64 and a copy of Mario 64 when it was new, not realizing that we already owned our own. We never sold our copies so they mostly went unused. My older brothers played the one we already owned and I'd play them both interchangeably. If the games were personalized, I would have noticed a difference in the copy my brothers played versus the copy mostly I played. In addition, I'd also play my Memaw's own copy of the game whenever we'd visit her house. Still no differences. The other point of confusion I have is the Wario apparition. It just makes no sense to me that the desire to see Wario was somehow great enough to cause him to appear in the game, but there's nothing about Luigi in that regard? Luigi was far more sought after than Wario, surely if any character were to manifest as an apparition, it would be him. I'd honestly never even heard of anybody who wanted to see Wario in the game.
@@librasmr2454 i.imgur.com/M2EKk8X.jpg I outlined them here. It's more of a "once you see it you can't unsee it" situation. I just thought it was really cool when I noticed it. It reminded me a lot of the Hell Valley Sky Trees. Here is the vanilla skybox for comparison: tr.rbxcdn.com/dd00fd8b2f5026c5e01c53d3be7a3e77/420/420/Model/Png In the actual level, this area of the skybox is high above you and you have to look up to see it, so the goombas appear to be standing on a ledge in the distance.
This is all bullshit, I grew up with the game and the Wario apparition is completely out of nowhere and has no basis in reality. Back in my days the rumors about Luigi and Yoshi suicide were all we had about Mario 64, nothing much else, something about hidden levels and stuff about the rabbit too but no mention of Wario. Everything else came like 10 years later when people rediscovered the game and made up stuff. This is like saying people saw Rosalina in 64 before the character was even made.
i remember bowser having blue eyes in my n64 game, i just vividly remember bowser having blue eyes, but he didnt have it in the game of course, no one in my neighborhood had a n64, so i had to remember that i played and bowser having blue eyes. i looked at beta bowser, and he didnt have blue eyes either, i remember his eyes being the same color as marios overalls, and no one believes me. im being serious, i remember bowser having blue eyes.

As a software engineer that develops A.I and complex machine learning. It is nearly impossible that the game would have this sort of exicution power as it would literally defy the laws of physics. Random wacky penguins: Hi.

Wet dry world
There isnt even a brain diagram in the files of the game, even in the newer source leak. He also uses a ton of overly complex pseudo science to explain the feeling of wet dry world instead of simply explaining "the world is very closed in and feels claustrophobic".
The beta penguins
This one is very easy to explain. Someone makes creepy story. Person is scared by creepy story. They think about the creepy story all day. They might have a dream about creepy story. This obviously wouldn't happen with everyone, but maybe with some people.
Wario apparition
This one is just a meme, there is no actual proof of it other than "guy said it true, must believe guy" and him saying the word "builds" and "beta" to give off the old=scary effect.
The end of the video
Literally just a ton of pseudo scientific terms to try make it sound more real.
So yeah, this is all just dumb stuff to scare you. I wrote this just for people who were actually scared by this, I know a lot of people already know this is fake.
we all know it's a creepypasta you angsty 14 year olds damn stfu 👁👄👁
I can explain that the every copy of mario 64 is personalized thing is real IN A WAY. A real example of this is shown in the race levels of koopa or the big penguin. If you take a shortcut on those races. Theyll call you out on their dialogue. This little change in dialogue that was dependant on your actions is already personalizing a game for a group of people that takes a shortcut
I think the joke of the video might've soared a bit to far over your head.

It's called "SM64 - Vanish Cap Under the Moat (and Cap Switch Pressed) - 0x A Presses
".
WTF?
@@ThePrescriber How do you remember Mario being when under the effect of the vanish cap?
This is called the Nelson Mandela effect.
It is EXTREMELY RARE to have a cart from both universes in the same one.
Count yourself lucky.
In my universe Judi Dench died a couple months after making Skyfall, it was her last movie and here apparently she is still alive and well despite me remembering very well her death.
You can switch universes several times in your lifetime and it can be quite unnerving when you realize how much stuff has changed just from 20 or even 10 years ago.
Pikachu black tail is one a lot of people recognize as proof that the Nelson effect is real.
@@blublade6999 ok, but the vanish cap behaves both ways in this universe
@@Jurt0E It means somehow the people that crossed over in this universe (the one in which the texture is smooth) brought over their Mario 64 cartridges. Roms do not mean much because anyone can hack them.

I didn’t get that feeling when thinking him of mario running.
Think of how you go up first then around
I'm litterally sweating of fear wtf
Uh.. chill, this is all fake
SAME LMFAO
Maybe this avoids bad vibes
I used this creepypasta for scaring my brother and it worked, but now he's sleeping like a baby somehow...
Don't afraid friend,it's all fake for fun, even you feel scared don't watch fake beta videos...This fear is not effective, you'll get over it 1-2 days later.
TSM Cheonsa I remember being a young kid, if I ever thought of something creepy I would just freeze up in my bed and hide underneath the covers, I would literally be sweating under the covers because I was too scared to peek out lol
@@hajdxhjjdjshsh2644 Mhm yes it is..We know. Something doesnt have to be real for something to be unsettling. Like the fact that you may simply know some information about something, puts you at risk in some sort of unseen danger. Its an unsettling thought.
I nearly jumped out of my damn chair when I heard the knocking noise. That's what I get for watching this alone at 3AM.
Consoomer meme
the sound design in this video is immersive enough that bockground sounds in it have freaked me out, nice work
Thank you very much :D
The bockground
I love how this feels like forbidden knowledgeable that Nintendo would have me assassinated for knowing
back then they were the shit now since the wii era they are pussies there is no way they would assasinate you
they will.
I remember when I first watched this, when you started to to talk about the penguins appearing in your dreams genuinely frightened me enough to not watch the rest of the video for some reason. I’ll probably watch it fully in a bit but at the moment I’m a bit busy so I can’t.
i love hearing stories like this about my vids-- it's ok to choose not to watch the rest of it if you feel uncomfortable at any point, thanks to the internet you can just stop watching-- or even choose to watch again at a later date :)
@@SteffyCush First of all, wow I’m surprised you even saw my comment, secondly Ive now watched the whole video, and wow, even though none of this stuff is real (well I hope it isn’t lol) you tell this in such a way that it seems real, you are a masterful storyteller, I hope your channel grows and grows since you deserve it.
@@dristosreadingcorner8966 that really means a lot to me!! Thank you so much !!
this is one of the videos of all time
I absolutely love this iceberg lore.
I am very interested in the skybox of Bowser in the Dark World
@@librasmr2454 i.imgur.com/M2EKk8X.jpg
I outlined them here. It's more of a "once you see it you can't unsee it" situation. I just thought it was really cool when I noticed it. It reminded me a lot of the Hell Valley Sky Trees. Here is the vanilla skybox for comparison:
tr.rbxcdn.com/dd00fd8b2f5026c5e01c53d3be7a3e77/420/420/Model/Png
In the actual level, this area of the skybox is high above you and you have to look up to see it, so the goombas appear to be standing on a ledge in the distance.
@@blublade6999 Yeah it is all bullshit because all this personalization shit is just a joke that everyone is on
Finally, a video that knows what it's talking about! Great video as always!
You've been such a great help with this man, you've been so on-the-ball and patient and I can't thank u enough
So glad you finally finished this my man!
these labours of love are always worth it :D
I felt like I was on an acid trip the whole time, nothing sticked.
What did I just watch?
:D
I wonder how many people are going to come across this video and not realize that its satire.
i remember bowser having blue eyes in my n64 game, i just vividly remember bowser having blue eyes, but he didnt have it in the game of course, no one in my neighborhood had a n64, so i had to remember that i played and bowser having blue eyes.
i looked at beta bowser, and he didnt have blue eyes either, i remember his eyes being the same color as marios overalls, and no one believes me.
im being serious, i remember bowser having blue eyes.
Mandela effect.
