I volunteer at my church and have done for 8 or 9 years, setting up the Communion and also measuring and filling up the containers for the coffee for the Sunday svc. They've always very kindly given me a Starbucks card as a thank you Christmas gift but this year they gave me an Aldi gift card!❤ I'm so grateful for this!
I have found that the charity shops are overloaded with beautiful square fashion scarves that are not so in fashion at the moment and some of them would make beautiful fabric for wrapping gifts.
Thanks Jane. I agree with all your suggestions... except for me personally - I absolutely love getting cards in through the letterbox ... then opening & reading them & placing in various spots around the sittingroom.... 🎄
I stopped sending cards awhile back as I was worried about the environmental impact and I was receiving cards that were clearly being sent ‘because it’s what you do’ with just a to and from in, no meaning, glittery cards that has to go in general waste, it upset me so much. Started using don’t send me a card, with donations to charities instead. This did reduce the rubbish cards we were getting sent 🙌💚 But, I really missed writing out my cards. I would always write a a message in my cards to my friends and family, so I searched for recyclable cards and this year I’ve done that but also bought via local artists. Beautiful cards, each tailored to the person I’m sending them to, but can be recycled after the season has passed. I’m just hoping the cards I receive are also recyclable 🤞 if not I’ll have to get crafty with them!
We always do the low waste, no waste thing. Gift cards and baking is what everyone is getting this year. My daughter who has her birthday in early January, will also get a canvas shopping bag. It will have a number of sauce mixes to turn veggies, grains, beans, pulses and meat into healthy meals. Since she wants to eat healthier, and they can be a tad dear here(in Canada), it will help her grocery budget too! Low waste, usable wrapping and healthy eating!
I think there should be a ban on production of novelty plastic Christmas stuff. Work secret Santas are the worst for it. People think it’s funny to buy the novelty tat. All the rubbish we’ve been gifted over the years that has no other purpose has made me actually quite sad. I’d openly say to people ‘please no gift’ I also think Secret Santa should be opt in, not mandatory. Luckily in our family we’ve stopped the Christmas gifting, we gift throughout the year, meaningful things when see something they like or need etc. Or the best gifts, sharing a moment, a meal or theatre trip 🥰 something that stays with you forever 💝.

We hardly drink anymore and won’t drink much wine. I did buy a grey goose Vodka dupe from Aldi but now I think why, as we probably won’t drink it 😂. I love mince pies 🤩. I bought a lovely £18 box of chocolates BUT we won’t buy anymore, so it evens itself out 😊. One year I bought two novelty mugs from Ann Summers, they made me laugh, and I gave one to a male friend as a joke, but there is NO WAY he would have used it. I’ve still go the other one as I daren’t give it to anyone it’s so rude, also I couldn’t donate it to a charity shop, so the joke was on me!!!
Were not buying christmas pudding short bread biscuits no ginger bread only one home made chocolate small cake and custard for Christmas this year there is no point
