This is why we love this woman so much. Sasha you are perfection in so many ways. This was beautifully interpretative and executed. Simply magnificent...
Amazingly beautiful, artistic, graceful, athletic, performance. Sasha will always be my favorite skater of all time. She is a ballerina on ice, with or without skates.
Agreed! If she trips or misses a triple-triple combination, it matters not. She still makes me want to jump out of my seat and soar. I noticed a couple of Balanchine moves in the choreography. Perfect.
She don't need to perform as a skater forever. In fact, she could gueststar in Cirque Du Soleil with her ballerina/acrobatic performance. This young woman is multi-talented.
My skating coach took me to this for my 11th birthday because she knows I absolutley love Saha Cohen and it was probably the most memorable thing I'll ever have from my childhood when I am all grown up. When I'm 30 I'll probably still remember going to stars on ice with my coach watching Sasha Cohen skate.
WOW! The strength, agility, flexibility, trust and the beauty of motion and dance...Sasha had it all. Absolutely dreamy routine! I don't think there was anyone who could upstage Sasha in her day. I don't think, to this day, there has been a more beautiful spiral sequence than hers. Bravo!
I actually agree with you. I don't think anyone ever doubted Sasha's TECHINICAL talent, BUT a very good portion of being a legendary athlete is how you perform when you need to. THAT itself is a skill, a talent. And a much needed one. What Im not sure of, is if that skill can be learned or if its just something you're born with. Are you familiar with Shannon Miller? She'd be a great role model for you even though its not your sport. She was so freaking tough in her head!
So... as much as I'd really prefer to just watch her skate, because she's, in my opinion, the prettiest skater in the world, I have to admit this was really cool, too. Very different. Had to be fun to practice, too- wish I could do some of those lifts!!!
Sasha Cohen's parents were gymnasts, when she was young she studied both skating and gymnastics. At about 5 i believe not sure she decided to focus on skating. (hope this clearifies and makes sense) her family is Romanian and Russian.
I know those guys are used to doing alot of lifts, but I'd be way too terrified to do that! But I loved some of those spins & lifts, I don't recall seeing any pairs skaters do anything quite like them!
Shannon Miller had a special way (much like Kwan) of completely zoning out. She could totally isolate herself into a zone of complete and total focus. She pulled out some amazing performances when everythign in the world was on her shoulders. You are obviously too young to remember her when she was an elite gymnast, but you should research her career and watch her unbelievable pressure filled performances here on youtube.
Congratulations on learning the art of competition and performing. Just remember that being able to land those tough elements in competition when the heat is on, is what actually counts. Its what separates the real athletes from the wanabes. Nobody cares about athletes that have great practices or rehearsals. Its about digging in and accessing your inner strength and inner warrior to put up the best performance under tought pressure. this is why i admire Kwan and gymnast shannon miller
I read her autobio- when she was little, she was a gymnast as she had too much energy. HOwever, even though she loved it, she wasn't concentrated enough, and her mums friend recommended skating. Sasha loved it, and chose it over gymnastics.
I went to the one in Dallas, Texas in February 2008. Any video of that? That'd be cool. It was a special occasion (my first and only time I went to an event like this), so I showered and wore my favorite clothes and light jacket.
Most skaters train in dance as well to help motion, balance and flexibility. Some younger skaters make take gymnastics as another interest but I find ballet most helpful.
What would have been more elegant if she has taken aerial ballet on ice and to make it her signature move. That would be absolutely spine tingling breathtaking, as in an ice show.
There's that thing in Kwan's eyes at the start of her performances that jus screams FOCUSED!!!! When Kwan was at that point and in that space, a huge earthquake couldnt get her out. I still believe that is why she won title after title. Well, that and her amazing technique of course. But amazing technique will never be enough. In any sport. Its too bad Sasha never sought the help of a sports psychologist. Cohen was so fragile, headcase almost :/ A damn shame really.
Only time will tell if you have what it takes to perform your best under pressure. It sounds like you are still in the starting stages of performing in general. Nerves at this stage are normal and typical. But hopefully you will have it in you to take those nerves and use it as a springboard for complete and total greatness, like Kwan and Miller. THAT is what truly made those 2 athletes legendary.
It's likely that she has had dance (specifically ballet) and/or some gymnastic training for the flexibility and movements ice skating requires. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all skaters have some dance and/or gymnastic training to go along with their skating lessons.
But check out Shannon Miller's career and watch some of her performances. she was the real deal. i think you will find her inspirational. she took pressure and turned it into a gold mine. she also was constantly dealing with being the one ignored by the media. there was alway some other gymnast propped up by the media and hyped up, and they almost always choked and cracked. but there was Miller, delivering and delivering! but she was ignored by the media even after winning titles.
I think we agree again! I have always felt that it really is just something you're born with. Only because I watched way too many dancers try and obtain that skill, only to fail. I actually did quite well under pressure which is why i eventually got a company contract. of course i was techincally well trained, but audition pressure and performance pressure in general never got to me. Sasha was in her head constantly. You can actually see it in a lot of her performances.
If anybody is still wondering the song is Enchantment by Darlene Koldenhoven

Her flexibility is astonishing. All that work in the gym and training!
I was privileged to have seen this performed live. It was amazing.👏❤

This is one of the most mesmerising things I've ever seen and the music is perfection.
She is so gracefull! I could watch her skating and dancing for ages, her spins and spirals are amazing!
I have seen plenty of beauty in this outstanding sport/art called figure skating... but this choreography simply took my breath away
My favorite routine on ice ever!

She is also (if I read correctly) been doing yoga for years, so I'm sure that aided in her flexibility as well.
Фигуристка от бога.Получаешь огромное наслаждение от её катания.
Gorgeous routine.
OMG that was Unique and beautiful:):)

._. *sigh* you're just amazing... I crown you queen of figure skating lol ^.^
That's Yuna Kim. Though I admit this choreography is incredibly unique and amazing.
I love Yuna Kim too although I'd have to disagree
^
Quality over quantity... Sasha Cohen lacked consistency but when she got things right she shined.
Judges always change the rules therefore titles are meaningless
Wow.......💗
Beautifull

Relevance to the vid at hand, plz?
I never realised just how flexible she was.
WOW! I wish I was flexible like her. Or just plain flexible lol.
Does anyone know the name of the song they used?

What is this song called. I know its enchantment but when I search it up it won't come. Who composes this piece
Who are the other two male skaters? I know one is Pelletier but I can't remember who the other two are.
