I was barely 18.....I drove 400+ miles from the SF Bay Area with some friends the day before. We spent the night in the gravelly dirt parking lot with 100,000 other die hard fans....we partied pretty good that night.....the next morning we commandeered a school bus for the 1 mile trip to the gate.....18 hours later VH took the stage....after an afternoon of Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, Scorpions, Ozzy Osborne, I can't remember them all....at Midnight Van Halen finally took the stage....the rest is on video. It was over the top bigger than life outrageous ridiculous incredible and I still cannot believe what I saw. It was was truly epic! Good times......
Live Prime Van Halen was better than oxygen for me, UNTOUCHABLE . You knew how Dave was live, so no surprises there, and Mikey, Alex and Eddie we ALWAYS ON THEIR GAME. I was lucky enuff to see this lineup 3 times including this show. The Mighty VAN HALEN
You cannot watch this without getting a huge smile on your face! Just pure high energy rock and roll from Van Halen at their absolute peak. Dave jumping off the drum riser, Ed ripping...they were one of a kind.
Great video Raw energy Dave fronting and Eddie tearing it up about as close youll see on a live video with good audio and visuals of the band. Always enamoured with Eddies talent and showmanship wont see another in my lifetime like him. Sad by his passing but happy to have the Mark he made on music and we have Wolfie now.
The Van Halen US festival show is wrongly thought of in the mainstream as a bad show cuz the boys were f'd up. While it is true the band is feeling good, it is a good show and the band is on point. The Dave "I forgot the f'n words" is something Dave said at EVERY show during 'Romeo Delight' on the Diver Down tour in '82-83.
The king of 10 fingers and 6 strings, Mr Edward Van Halen boys and boys or whatever you are this year, we were always men or women of Rock, nothing in between!!!
...Van Halen IS the original line up....in saying that , I've zero issues with Sammy .....just two different entities.....rest well Ed...and thank you 🌹
this is from 83, I think back and realize how fortunate I was to grow up listening to VH and see them in their prime in 1984, they brought the house down in Pittsburgh PA. I was 14 and enamored with the music of the most innovative band prior to Pantera.
I made the mistake of seeing VH in 1983.......I was 15 yrs old......I had been playing drums in the school band since I was 10.......I had just gotten my first kit and was in my first rock band.......I was a budding rock star (he said bud, hehehe, that too)......BUT IT WAS MY FIRST CONCERT!!!!.......I BECAME A JUNKIE CHASING THAT FIRST AND BEST BUT UNATTAINABLE HIGH........a few subsequent VH shows have come danger-close. Even later in life with better means resulting in better(even GREAT) seats, VIP packages, backstage tours, sound checks, even meet & greets where I got to BS with Eddie and "talk shop" with my first true hero and one of my earliest hardcore drumming influences (he casually mentioned his recent, and first, visit to the Ludwig factory and how cool it was to "work" with their design guys......lo and behold, within the next couple of years, his limited run signature snare was introduced!!). I dunno, timing feels about right, I allow myself to believe that he shared with little old me that he was getting a sig snare? (A guy can dream) I guess my point is that I'm somewhat concerned that having 'THE MIGHTY VAN-FUCKING-HALEN' as my first concert in some ways may have booby-trapped every concert I've seen, and there have been quite a few over the 40+ years since. It definitely changed/shaped my life. Damn, seeing it in type kinda makes me feel really, really shallow........and I never did achieve anything close to "rock star" status. Damn But those motherfuckers killed it!!!!!! I'd wager that they changed countless lives in addition to mine.......there's no way I'm the only human with good taste in music, rhythm in my heart, and a flair for spotting the obvious. Rest In Peace, Edward........and thanks to all who made any of it possible
Terrific performance of this song. But it's a shame one of the cameras didn't also cover Michael and Alex in closeups/midshots, as they are vital to the unique sound and soul of this band.
@@randalsavage790 strongly disagree! Disco was a relatively short period of time. And you only heard it if you were listening to shitty pop stations, or watching American Bandstand, or Dance Fever. Blech. But the rock and roll... My God! The Stones records that came out in the 70's... Zeppelin, Aerosmith... I could go on for days.

You need to watch these every day to fight daily depression. It works for many of us.
YESSS I TOTALLY AGREE
No doubt but when will they release a new album?
Joseph Michael DiCarlo shit, I’m just hoping Eddie’s healthy.

These guys were so hammered LOL

Cheers to the greatest rock band ever....period!!...
The best ever !! The mighty VAN HALEN!
I need to get a outfit just like Eddie is wearing. Love it. Love you Eddie.
My favorite part is Dave switches right to left hand in a nanosecond and catches that rose mid flight I mean wow! Magical!
The Mighty Van Halen! Enough said. 🎸
If there were smartphones those days.... what great footage there would be.....VH all the way.
I was there that night I will never forget it!!!!
Van Halen was blazing a new trail through rock music back then !!!
Thank you Steve Wozniak.
THE GREATEST KICKASS ROCK BAND EVER!!!
They were so wasted!! LOL please take me back to those days!!!

Van Halen at the US Fest 83 is a time capsule to the 1980s
The Van Halen US festival show is wrongly thought of in the mainstream as a bad show cuz the boys were f'd up. While it is true the band is feeling good, it is a good show and the band is on point. The Dave "I forgot the f'n words" is something Dave said at EVERY show during 'Romeo Delight' on the Diver Down tour in '82-83.
Yes he did always say , i fucked up the words on Romeo delight,
Michael; You get it Michael! Mr. Keller...not so much.
@David Vanbrunt I am sure you will tell me you were there. Save it.✋ I don't believe you and if you read that then that person wasn't there either.
@David Vanbrunt Cool story bruh. I don't believe you. But good luck with it.👌 Toodle loo👋
@David Vanbrunt I believe that you were there, but scorpions dusting off vanhalen, fuck no,not on their best day and vanhalens worst
Remember being there for that like it was yesterday
This is a Boogie Woogie, straight up!
I feel so blessed to have witnessed and grown up with VH and the 80s greatness ☝️
THE BEST BAND IN THIS WORLD: VAN HALEN IS!
I'm a guitarist and Ed's been my hero forever, but hey, how about some votes for Alex as MVP!
so then I wonder why you left Mikey out . the band does need his vocals and bass . as he adds a dimension that is valuable .
Easily the most underrated drummer of his era. Overshadowed by his brilliant brother. But I’d give him my vote.
Alex Van Halen is not fully understood or appreciated until you've seen him live, then you will know just how bad ass he truly is!
😢rest in long peace big guy😢
The king of 10 fingers and 6 strings, Mr Edward Van Halen boys and boys or whatever you are this year, we were always men or women of Rock, nothing in between!!!
Like a "walk in the park!" Love it!
Saw them on that Fair Warning tour at the Hollywood Sportatorium!! The best show I ever saw!
After watching the 3 videos from "FAIR WARNING" on MTV, I decided I wanted to be a rock star.
...Van Halen IS the original line up....in saying that , I've zero issues with Sammy .....just two different entities.....rest well Ed...and thank you 🌹
Eddie made them both sound good! 😎
two different great bands.
Unless you grew up in that era its hard to understand just how awsome was the Mighty Van Halen!!
Best band ever!!!
RIP Mr. Edward Van Halen
RIP to the king. VH AT ITS BEST!!!
This song always had , I felt, a southern rock sound to it.
The King!!! Definitely!
this is from 83, I think back and realize how fortunate I was to grow up listening to VH and see them in their prime in 1984, they brought the house down in Pittsburgh PA. I was 14 and enamored with the music of the most innovative band prior to Pantera.
With a retired gynecologist on drums!! The MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!
They were great

Oakland version. Unbeatable. Tight as hell. Better than lp
Never got to see them with dave :( I would of loved this....fair warning was highly underrated .
What I wouldn't give for a real Van Halen live album!
I WAS THERE!!
Terrific performance of this song. But it's a shame one of the cameras didn't also cover Michael and Alex in closeups/midshots, as they are vital to the unique sound and soul of this band.

You should all read Running With The Devil By Noel Monk their Manager especially about this Day and the time leading up to it.
Ever watch that Video David did With Mark Goodman from MTV. WTF is Dave talking about. Cocaine is a Helluva drug

Say what you will about Dave but he was the man! Perfect compliment for Ed at the time.
👍😉🇺🇸❤THE GREAT OLE DAYS❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The nineteen seventies, the decade of rock!
Ummmm.... This was '83.
But I feel ya.
The 70's were the decade of disco dude. As much as I didn't want it to be. Unfortunately disco did happen.
