In the beginning, MTV didn't have a lot of music videos in their rotation. You would have to suffer through a lot of poorly made videos to get to a good one. I remember seeing this as a 10-yr old and having it blow my mind. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I would wait for the spaceship launch at the beginning of every hour to see what three bands were "coming up".
My friends and I would pretend we were David, Eddie, Alex and Michael while at practice. "I got myself a brand new oakland scarf right here" became an inside joke at school. This video, along with "unchained," and "hear about it later" were played incessantly until the Van Halen "Pretty Woman" world premiere.
Van Halen was my first musical love. Still get goosebumps watching. Back when there was magic.

Michael Anthony is ripping bass lines all over this song.. he's a low key shredder.. but never gets credit for it. Of course his high harmonies were crucial, but his bass playing was superb because he needed to let the showmanship of the other 3 BUSY musicians shine through before him... Eddie, Alex and DLR.. Loved this show! I was there in the Oakland Coliseum in June '81! Ticket was around $12 bucks! Like the song they covered "We All Had A Real Good Time"! But honestly this was overdubbed and reproduced, they didn't sound as polished as the video make us believe. Those who have seen Van Halen especially during this time can agree but still kicked ass,!!!
