I started praying the rosary every day for the last three years.
It doesn't make everything better, but it gives me peace.
I also use scriptural rosary to help me with praying the rosary.
If you are struggling I'd suggest Many Hail Mary's at a time on UA-cam. They pray it daily. There are others on UA-cam channels that offer them too.
    Mother Mary pray for us!

I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to be concentrating on the words or the Mysteries, but I thought I should be trying hard to do one of them. Which one?! It never occurred to me that resting/letting Mary's prayer carry me was an option.
    Thanks, Father Mike!

Thanks for this video. I've been watching a lot of you recently because you and Ascension Presents have been hitting concerns that I have been having recently as someone who is trying to go through RCIA but has daily concerns because I don't like going through things without knowing the "why's" beforehand. Control issues? Possibly. We have a wonderful priest in our parish, but I have yet to talk to him and rely on the class and YT videos by priests for answers. Please keep putting out great information and helping us in our journey.

I really like Fr Mike (I am challenging here because I respect him and not because I think I'm better than him - I'm not) but think he should get out of the relative craziness of the USA for (if God wills but only if God wills it - He will either respond to this by making you feel good or bad about it) for a bit (but keep up his channel and build up his subscribers and obviously he can do fill-in priest work for priests on holiday / sick, something like that). For a year. And then come back - refreshed and with an even bigger perspective.
(Don't forget, Bishop Fulton Sheen and Bishop Barron both spent time in Europe, helping to give a bigger perspective in particular when it comes to evangelising).
    1. Spend some time in Europe - beauty / culture. Absorbing the beauty and culture of Catholic Europe (how beauty affects our soul and such a powerful weapon in evangelisation). I mean I live 10 minutes walk from a beautiful medieval church (once Catholic) where Jane Austen worshipped. And 30 minutes from beautiful Salisbury Cathedral built by Catholics. And 45 minutes from Oxford built by Catholics and where CS Lewis and Tolkien lived (and which Waugh wrote about in Brideshead Revisited).
    2. Spend some time in Europe - saints. Spend some time where some of the great saints lived (and be inspired by them and their particular approach to God and writings etc). Such as Assisi (St Francis), Avila (St Theresa of Avila), Liseux (St Therese), Rouen (St Joan of Arc) - the list is endless. And develop how St Francis saw the world. And St Theresa of Avila and St John of the Cross, St Philip Neri (on his great devotion to The Holy Spirit - and the vital need of this - and the need for humour and joy in Catholic life).
    3. Spend some time in Europe - reading in general. Go to Poland and study St John Paul on Theology of the Body (sooo important in today's world where people are desperate to grow stronger in understanding what marriage is all about and how to achieve happiness in it). And part of this, is to study The Song of Songs (it was huge for St John Paul II - and for so many Catholic saints). For me, Kreeft's book on The Song of Songs is the best religious book I've ever read after the Bible and the Catholic Catechism. Also, spend some time on the need to understand the vital importance of psychology in Catholicism (the OT - and the new- is huge on psychology but the Church neglected this until modern times. Don't forget how psychology is huge in ancient Greek literature and which Carl Jung would have studied - and don't forget St Paul was a Greek scholar! So he too would have understood well the psychology - and poetic nature - of religion, not forgetting he was a Jewish scholar too and so would have appreciated well the psychology of the Old Testament - and of the New).
    4. Spend some time in a developing Catholic country (In Africa or South America or Asia). Although you might be giving, the people of these countries also give back in terms of joy, simplicity of devotion, spontaneity, and so on. And also do a bit of adventurous travel for a bit too to experience a bit of Transfiguration-like travel. But integrate it with your mission overall in being away from the USA.
And then return to the USA after about a year (if God wills) ramping up even more the mission to evangelise. With more ammo (benign ammo) and energy and feeling more inspired than ever before.

For this year, I am given a one year work contract that has a 90min commute on the bus>train>bus. It’s allowed me to think ok, instead of UA-cam Netflix, I just rest in the rosary. Yes.

Check the Living Rosary! You sign up and are assigned to pray a DECADE of the rosary every day for the rest of your life. There are 18 million people participating! That is a lot of Rosaries being said each day! I got 20 others in the church to sign up with me! I look forward to praying my decade each day as I ponder the others praying the other decades "with" me. (No, we don't meet together. No, we don't set a certain time to pray. If you don't have a Rosary available, or do not know the prayer structure at the time, you can internally say 50 Our Fathers - 50 Hail Marys - 50 Hail Josephs and this is very pleasing to God and His Holy Family. He just loves attention from us. He's the same as a Father who wants so dearly to hear from His children, the same exactly. He is Our Father, our Creator. And He loves us beyond belief. Please speak to Him regularly, and prayer is the best way. He loves the Our Father.

Father Mike. Thank you for this. You are the reason I returned to the Catholic church. I am going to daily mass now, and I started the rosary about six months ago. It has been very stressful at some times because of my lack of focus issues I have had all my life. I am 63, and it is getting worse. Trying to focus on the mystery during the Hail Mary was causing me to forget the Hail Mary right in the middle of it. A lady at church gave me a how to pray the rosary card. I have to look at it, and it helps me focus. I have to have the prayers in front of me as I am unable to memorize them. I usually do it after I get home from church. I tried doing it in the church for a while, but there was too much distraction. Just so glad I am able to do it better now. God bless.❤

Lastly, one of the main reasons why one should try hard to focus on proper prayer and devotion to God is the sheer JOY and BEAUTY and PEACE and ECSTASY and BLISS of it! (And even when you're suffering terribly, there is God's wonderful CONSOLATION and ENCOURAGEMENT and SUPPORT in general - as well as general sense of GUIDANCE and being EMPOWERED by God and sense of God trying to bring us HOME to Him, please God).
Anyway, even if people don't believe me for whatever reason, about the JOY of focusing on prayer and devotion to God etc, The Catholic Church supports 100% what I say (in terms of The Catholic Magisterium / Catechism). So it's not just about joy etc why we should focus clearly first and foremost on God but also because it is a moral requirement.
    God bless us

@@rainastor4789 At times in the past, I was terrified of focusing on God (even thinking about Him). This was a trick of the devil. Now TRYING to pray and focus on God isn' isn't just a duty for me, but an utter JOY (like star-gazing, having a chat with my best friend whilst travelling in some far-flung corner of the world, reading a great book by my favourite author, listening to Bach, sitting with my family by a warm fire telling jokes - whatever, I'm slightly idealising my life here ... But you get the picture. Prayer to God makes me feel SAFE, EXCITED, ALIVE, all WARM and COSY, INSPIRED, FEELING LIKE I'M ON AN ADVENTURE - as well as a HEROIC MISSION but with God inside me and with me on that journey! (Please God / thank God).
And as God is my witness I am certainly NOT trying to knock devotion to The Rosary and even more so NOT trying to knock devotion to Mary - but I am challenging things like over-focusing on Mary (including things like over-focus on apparition too - not just the Rosary).

@@rainastor4789 Lastly, I really developed my prayer to God, I think, a lot, during Covid when I was 'stuck' in a house in London for a year on my own. Boy o boy was it BLISS! It was like God was taking me away from the craziness of the world for a year. I'd say my prayers in the morning and that I'd be on a wave of bliss for the rest of the day (although I would say formal prayers at other times of the day, too - not just in the morning). I'd go for a walk and God would light up a bee for me so that it looked like this incredibly-beautiful, and well-crafted jewel flying about - the houses around where I lived and the sky turned into a kind of Raphael-like painting. I'd feel a bit like in that Simon-and-Garfunkel song, 'Hey lamppost, what you knowing?' Little humorous / comic things kept happening. It was bliss. In all that time, I only watch 6 hours of TV (a series). TV just got in the way of what I was experiencing with God. I was really connecting with God who made our world like in The Canticle of the Sun. Just beautiful and joyful. So for me, it's not just a moral obligation to pray to God but a sheer JOY. And we MUST do formal prayer. But this then bleeds into all kinds of other devotions to God. 1. Just feeling his joyful presence and just enjoying being with Him like two friends enjoying being with each other even if they're not talking but in the same presence of. That kind of thing. 2. Not even praying but being aware of His presence and just being grateful to Him about. 3. Contemplating Him and why He created us and His plan for us. Etc.

    1. Christ says the best way to pray is to pray the Lord's Prayer. So we need to be OBEDIENT to God here.
    2. The Catholic Catechism goes into the Lord's Prayer in great detail but only a passing reference to the Rosary.
    3. Prayer and devotion to God is a moral obligation. Praying the Rosary is not.
    4. We were created by God - not by Mary
    5. We were created for God - not for Mary
    6. God is infinitely closer to us than Mary in the very technical sense of The Holy Spirit inside us (please God / thank God) from Baptism and sanctifying grace.
    7. God is God. Mary is not. It is idolatry to over-focus on anyone or anything over God.
    8. Devotion to God goes all the way back to Bible. Devotion to the Rosary was more-a-less a medieval introduction.
    9. In Catholicism we need to focus on objective truth (i.e. in The Catholic Magisterium) as opposed to feelings (popular Catholic piety such as over-focusing on the Rosary).
    10. The Our Father can be used for any situation / purpose. And can be said on the fly. It is of infinite depth.
    11. There are countless beautiful prayers to God. Not just the Our Father. But also the need to pray to God informally.
    12. That prayer to God isn't just about a formula of words. But should be leading up to a conversation. A two-way, loving dialogue.
    13. Prayer should include a lot of listening - not just speaking.
    14. We need to be careful of looking at too many Biblical passages at one go. Focus on quality over quantity.
    15. The Rosary was initiated by priests and their needs. The needs of married people are different. They need to ensure the meet their basic prayer needs by making sure they focus clearly on God. And only the Rosary as an extra. Also, the priests partly initiated the Rosary to have a female figure in their lives. But a husband has that in his wife (and daughters).
    16. Real beautiful feminine energy ultimately comes from God. God created Mary. Her beautiful feminine energy comes from God.
    17. By focusing on God first and foremost as we should for infinite reasons, we can then allow God to shine a light on Mary for us. Mary doesn't shine a light on herself. God does. And so we see her beauty profoundly more when we focus on God.
    18. Mary wants us to focus way more on God than her. So we need to be obedient to Mary too.
    19. As people say we are in crisis so the greater need to devotion to God like the disciples (and Mary, first and foremost) at Pentecost.
    20. There is so much abuse of devotion to Mary. I know after growing up in 'Catholic' Ireland in the 1970's / 1980's where Catholicism has now relatively collapsed. If people had focused on prayer and devotion to God first, Catholicism would be profoundly stronger in Ireland now.
    21. Prayer to God is also about transforming us body, mind ands soul. Only God can affect our essence.
    22. We were created to be spouses of God (please God). Not of Mary.
    23. We are children of The Father ('Father' does not equal mother - as in Mary our mother - here). Also, God is ultimately our motherly (and fatherly) figure as in all motherly love ultimately comes from God).
    24. Men get their masculine energy form God only. Women get their feminine energy, to a degree, from Mary but ultimately from God.
    25. God shows us profoundly more what humility and love are. The humility and love of The Father to give us His Son. The humility and love of Christ on Earth. The Humility and love of The Holy Spirit to dwell inside us (please God / thank God). We have to return that humility and love by focusing on prayer and devotion to God. That God is Our Treasure. We want to focus on Him always not just out of duty or holy fear or even gratitude - vital as these all are - but above all, just out of the sheer joy and love of.
    26. God says we are to: 'love God and neighbour.'
    27. God created the universe and everything beautiful in it and remembering this is key such as in St Francis' of Assisi' Canticle of the Sun.
    28. God is at the heart of the Catholic Sacraments which are at the heart of our faith
    29. When St Theresa of Avila - perhaps greatest saint in last 1,000 years along with St Francis of Assisi - her mysticism was very much focused on God. Her ecstasy of the soul was about union with God.
    30. God says He wants to know us (please God). This key to Catholicism (Mary knowing is an extra. But God knowing us is fundamental).
    Mary pray for us
    God bless us

The Rosary was designed for the laity, by Mary through the Dominicans. It's portable replacement for the Liturgy of the Hours, which is why it had five decades in it. I have a copy of the hinge hours, but it would have been a pricey book back in the day. The priests all have their prayers they are supposed to be saying and for them the Rosary should be extra.
That said, I do agree that Marion devotion can go overboard in modern Catholic culture. Mary is the sign post to Christ, but sometimes people get caught up at the how pretty the sign post is.

I copy out the entire Bible by hand in my prayers, it takes a lot of time each day, AND I pray the rosary. The assumption you are making that people who pray it just don't "know the scripture" is a huge assumption. Are you sure YOU are the one who is correct?. Tell me what your walk with God is like and what speaks to you? How do you pray? Are you so close to God that you can be certain other people are "doing it wrong?" When I pray the rosary I never consider myself praying TO Mary, but rather a sense of praying WITH Mary. We are both mothers. We both love her Son.

Most Protestants do not know Scriptures as well as they think they do. Job was ordered to pray on behalf of his friends, because God no longer was listening to their prayers. There are other spots too where we can find intercession. It's just Protestant pastors go looking for a few passages they take out of context and call it "case closed".
