    From Boston, MA USA! I had 3 Bajan grandparents. They've cursed me with Anglophilia! One Thanksgiving Day, before we sat down to dinner, my Grandfather said 12 yr. old me should have a small glass of wine. Then all the adults stood, raised their glasses, and my Grandfather said "God save the Queen." This was in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn!
    The hymn "Jerusalem" is glorious. I think it should be the anthem. God save the king❣️🇧🇧🇬🇧

      Great Britain is such a quaint island in general. You could be down south by Lands End or up Jorth by John O' Groats and you'll find the same small villages, rueal roads, ancient castles and homes littered across the countryside. I reckon this may be a huge reaosn for conservatism in rural areas. A lot of the outright SNP or Labour areas here are well built up and secluded from the traditional countryside. Funnily some of Scotlands most reliable Conservative voting constituencies are those near the border that lack big cities and oush for things like the reopening of the borders railway and preservation of the old textile buildings from centuries gone by. More people need to return to the countrysides, they are far more manageable if competent leadership by area is anything to go by.

      This is England's Anthem, the reason it can't be the national anthem as this includes Great Britain not just England and so countries like Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland use the same national anthem at sporting events and such. I agree though this is better than the national anthem.

    I am not from the UK, but an Italian-American by proud ancestry and nationality. It has nonetheless long been clear to me that the self-sacrificing Christ-Inspired fight for human dignity and civility for the world as a whole has heroically cut its way through England and the British Isles over many centuries as through no other land on earth, drawing both awe to and derision upon its inhabitants and those affected by them as to Christ himself, Who had clearly set the Ultimate stage upon the Cross and off again for all people everywhere, sending Jerusalem straight to the UK and beyond. The first time I heard this song it produced an intensity of feeling in me of naturally appropriated familiarity that brought tears of joy to my eyes by its conviction to the most noble cause of The Savior, as it has ever since in my repeated hearings of this profound hymn.

In 2018 the Anglican Church of Canada admitted that based on current trends it will cease to exist by 2040. Today Nigeria has more Anglicans than England and the USA combined. This precious stone set in a silver sea

    I think that the reason this is so great isn't just the music - it's the words. It's talking about how great England is, but also about how we need to keep building and bettering so that it becomes the New Jerusalem (Heaven) on earth. Not about conquest or fame or power, but making life better for everyone. And that's not only hopeful, that's inspiring and a great thing for England (and everywhere) to strive for.

I even see the Irish as part of our family 1) because i have Irish family members and 2) because they're part of our little group of islands, same with the smaller islands like the Isle of man. Funnily enough i actually find the Scottish accent attractive on a women. I probably have one of the worst English accents ....... Manc, its not as bad as Scouse though lol.

    Thank you for the lyrics. I never could find this song, having heard it first in the movie "Chariots of Fire." For some reason, I thought it was by Elgar, and I had no idea Blake's words are the lyrics. I'm familiar with Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance," being an American. For some reason, in the U.S.A. many high school bands played "Pomp and Circumstance at graduation." But this hymn, for some reason, really gets to me. I just watched a documentary about Churchill and the British standing alone against Hitler, so I have a great admiration for the British. As someone in the documentary said, if it hadn't been for the British, we'd probably all be under the Nazi swastika now. An American Anglophile

    • @britbazza3568
      @britbazza3568 4 роки тому +3

      You are correct. Great Britain stood alone against the might of the German army and Luftwaffe for four years as they marched across Europe without any resistance. If it hadn't been for Churchill and Britain the whole world would have been under Nazism or Communism with absolutely no freedom what so ever.
      People say especially in the USA and other parts of the world Inc Britain that Brexit was a stupid thing to vote for. The thing is Brexit isn't about trade or money. Brexit is about retaining freedom of the British people. Brexit is about honouring British men and women along with people from Empire and other nations who fought in that war and others since and either died or were maimed for our freedoms to be secure.
      This is because the largest economy in the EU is Germany so what the Germans couldn't take in two world wars they could take by using politics and deception to take financial control over the European Continent. So in reality Brexit is a whole lot bigger than trade. Brexit is about freedom!
      Brexiteers have actually saved Britain and Europe but this time it's been done through the ballot box and not on the battlefields of Europe it also hasn't dragged other nations into the battle and no lives have been lost this time no families have had to bury their sons or daughters. So in my mind it's a win win situation! Yes there will be problems.but we're British we're used to hardship and will overcome it as we always do. Its called the bulldog spirit of the bulldog nation!
      By the UK voting to leave the EU other member states will.also vote to leave when they see us make a success not leaving. Look at the problems the EU is having over the Covid19 vaccine program as a starting point! They are failing miserably as the UK has surpassed 15 million vaccinations within just over one month the eu hasn't even started to vaccinate it's people so tried to hijack UK supplies by closing their borders to the UK for legitimately paid for vaccines to pass through to the UK
