What's interesting to note is that Sarah Jane refers to all the previous companions who travelled with the Doctor in the present tense (ie: still living) except Harry Sullivan whom she speaks of in the past tense indicating that he has already passed away.......
The references: Tegan (1981-1984) Travelled with the 4th and 5th doctors Ben and Polly (1966-1967) travelled with the 1st and 2nd doctor Harry (1974-1975) travelled wit the 4th doctor and sarah jane Dorothy I believe is Ace (1987-1989) travelled with the 7th doctor Barbara and Ian (1963-1965) Travelled with the 1st doctor, they are the originals
Matt the preview we got today confirmed what Sarah Jane said. Also, I feel like you should have mentioned that Ben and Polly were the first companions to witness The Doctor regenerate. In fact, I think they were the first humans to witness one.
1:14 Glad Ben & Polly get a mention. Cuz when they said goodbye to the Second Doctor and Jamie at the end of "The Faceless Ones", Ben hinted they might see the Doctor again. They never did in Doctor Who, but don't know if they ever did in other media like novelisations or Big Finish audio dramas etc.
When I first got into doctor who 6 ago I went back watched all the classics, then torchwood, and then the Sarah Jane adventures. I was almost crying when she said Ian and Barbara Chesterton I had always thought they would be a cute couple and I remember saying oh my gosh they got married. It was nice to hear about some of the very first companions and where they went in life. Plus I remember laughing when she said Dorothy (ace) had made a charity called a charitable earth as that is an acronym for ace
Let's not forget The companions in the future and past, either Susan-helping to rebuild earth after the dalek invasion in 2154 Vicki- becoming a legendary figure in Greek mythology Steven - acting as mediator between two races on an alien world. Jamie and Zoe -returned to their respective time periods, forgetting their adventures with the doctor only to encounter him later in his sixth incarnation. Nyssa - reunited and in a relationship with Tegan Peri -married to an alien king with a striking resemblance to Brian blessed Mel - jetting around the universe with a charismatic conman
My personal theory is that their jouney home in the SIDRAT changed them. SPOILERS Since it was the Daleks who made the knockoff TARDIS, it would’ve been created for Dalek needs, which means they wouldn’t have worried about radiation, since they feed off of it. So maybe travelling through the time vortex unprotected from all external influences, like the TARDIS does, caused their bodies to mutate so they never aged? That is my theory, at least xD
Kevin McDougall Oh, that’s true :/ She travelled in the SIDRAT while the Daleks were occupying it, right? To account for that in my theory, perhaps the Daleks absorbed all the radiation so none got to Vicki, or, since they were the ones to have invented the SIDRAT, they actovated some security measures that weren’t necessary in the TARDIS, and so, the Doctor wouldn’t know to activate it when Barbara and Ian used it? Until when, or if, we get an official-like explanation for the Chestertons’ aging issue, I’m going with this, lol xD
I heard the commonly held theory was that, as the TARDIS’s first human beings, the TARDIS didn’t quite know what to do with them and inadvertently prolonged their lifespan between An Unearthly Child and The Rescue. As Vicki joined later and as Susan is a time lady, this sdoesn’t affect them.
In the volume two of Big Finish"s First Doctor adventures they gave a hint of what may have been the cause. In one of the stories Ian and Barbara were mortally wounded to the point they were dying. They were cured by applying to their wounds the genetic material of a species of sentient humanoid amoeba-like creatures that are biologically inmortal. After analyzing a blood sample The Doctor remarked that they would become either "Really really healthy" or never die at all. But that it was too soon to tell the possible effects they would experience in the future.
That was only an early concept that had been tossed around for season 27 before the first show got cancelled. From what I've read they never had the chance to draw out detailed stuff before the cancelation.
And they all came to her funeral. They all helped the Doctor in different ways, but they knew in their hearts that she was the best of them all.

@Kevin McDougall fair point, so new head canon, aces full name is dorothy gale mcshane
Also consider: Dorothy runs a company called A Charitable Earth.
A.C.E.
God damm I haven't been born to know that 😂
Ian and Barbara Chesterton....I may need a minute *screams out of happiness*
This still makes me smile I like to think that Sarah Jane would have had Graham's role in power of the doctor as the one to start the support group
Are you kidding? She would have been leading the group, I'm still disappointed they didn't get Anneke Wills and John Levene for that scene!

"Hang on, wait a minute, glasses, where did I leave my glasses? What? Oh, Lord. Head. Naturally. Mmm hmm. Bye!"
Ah, Jo hasn't changed a jot...
Good, wouldn't have her any other way.
The Doctor would be so proud :).
He always said this world is protected.

No mention of Martha or Mickey, who Sarah Jane met?
Wait, didn't Ace go to Gallifrey U.
