    I saw this episode too young and haven’t touched it for years (mainly because I forgot it existed) but I forgot how well they handled Jo. Realising the doctor visited people and not her and was now travelling with a married couple would’ve been two massive hits to her, but she never let it embitter her. She became selfless and remained that way. The doctor’s explanation of ‘I could never find you, you were too busy’ did strike a weird note with me, but you can piece together (no exposition, chinball!) that she had a great life post-doctor even if he did rattle off her achievements. Underrated companion.

    To be fair, this was only a section of the Shansheeth, since at the end of the episode, Mr Smith says that the others called and gave their apologise

    I’m surprised you haven’t done a more comprehensive Sarah Jane Adventures review series, since it manages to handle mature themes in a better way than Torchwood most of the time without coming across too adult for CBBC. Change, loss, negative relationships, the show’s writing and the performances showed that like Doctor Who just because it was seen as being for kids didn’t mean it talked down to the audience and provided things for older viewers to appreciate. Having storylines be across two twenty-odd minute episodes nicely feels like the Classic Doctor Who, and gives storylines more time to breath than if each storyline was only one episode.

    I quite like that this episode retconned 10's farewell tour to him going to see every companion before he died. It retroactively makes sense after Moffat decided 11 was the last Doctor in the cycle, plus I think it makes the TARDIS-destroying regeneration work better too.

    I personally don't think that the Doctor going back to see all of his companions that he saw over his 10 incarnations was weird at all. Imo, it makes more sense given from the events and lore from the Time Lord regenerations as well as knowing what's to happen in Time of the Doctor. To the Doctor, this is his last and final regeneration (basically one step closer to actual death) to where his next one (the 11th Doctor) was the incarnation to end it all. After this, there would be no regenerations or attempt to cheat death. So it makes sense that he'd go and see every one of his companions and not just the ones he had as the 10th Doctor cuz as far as he knows, he'll never get the chance to see them or say goodbye again so it was now or never

    On the memory weave, it's interesting to noted that they had to be not only straped down with head clamps but almost hypnotised in order to bring the memory of the key to life. Hypnosis has been known to draw out memories that we otherwise would never be able to recall, including details. Add that to the power of the machine being used it makes sense that the way to defeat it was to distract them with their other memories.

    Zoe Herriot. Her future isn't there anymore.
    Somewhere in Three's longterm assistance of Earth's technological development, he changed history without realizing it. And created a future in which he can never see her again. That is the reason he hates goodbyes. Because they mean admitting that his actions have removed his friends from history without realizing it. Better to pretend that they're all still out there.
    Which is the reason I despise the curtain call farewell tour to everyone everywhere by Ten. Because it catered to fan nostalgia at the expense of the character himself.

Sarah Jane's first and pretty much only reaction to the Doctor's death is complete denial, which is obviously an unhealthy response to a death. But in the end it turns out she was obviously correct and justified to be in denial. They weren't going to actually kill the doctor off-screen in a spin off show, and I'm not saying they should have. It just unintentionally gives off this strange little message that validates the unhealthy reacition of denial towards the death of a loved one

    Ok, when you realize how far advanced Timelord sience is ahead of humanity... like I'm reminded of this fact... You ever see the Doctor make a key? It's like a key is made simply by thought ... So it's not to far that another race could make a key .. especail if it was from a companion .. plus that a Tardis is a huge amount of energy ... And thoughts / ideas or mind energy are massive .. A quoet A Tardis is as expacive as the mind it self...

    I know you find it tough to review SJA so how about to top it like a mini trilogy, you review the first episode Invasion of the Bane?

  • @safiremorningstar
    @safiremorningstar 2 роки тому

    First of all it wasn’t actually canceled not the way you make it sound SJA went off the air because the person who was is lead the person who played Sarah Jane died suddenly and for that reason and that reason alone the show ended in fact during corona they actually doing a funeral friend Sarah Jane in which members of Doctor Who in the Seratine chronicles adventures said their goodbyes including her son and Sanjay are now a proper couple and they’re saying their goodbyes together I think they even have a kid if I remember correctly and he can’t guarantee that I do. So don’t say canceled went off the air because it’s lead character died know me actress I should say the character also down because well that’s the web about it and couldn’t have something replacer.

    For me this is the weaker doctor story in sja. Mostly because it feels less like SJA like the doctor is the one driving it rather than the actual sja characters. In 10s episode it felt more like the doctor popping and giving the kids a hand whereas this felt like he popped in took over and the kids never got a look in.
