Kenny Rogers had a bigger role than they give him credit for. He and Lionel Ritchie were good friends. Lionel lived in Kenny's guest house for a long time. There was a big sign on the studio door that said "Check your egos at the door". Kenny is one you should look into.

Quincy Jones (who conducted this track...) told everyone participating to leave their ego at the door - and so they did.
I highly doubt we'll ever see the like, ever again.
The late, great Ray Charles is the one at the piano.
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie co-wrote this piece - Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian produced it.
The message of this song is as relevant today, as it was at the time it was recorded, back in late January, 1985.

Great, great reaction as usual friend! This was such a beautiful compilation of so many extremely talented performers who got together for ONE night under the direction of Quincy Jones with Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. It was a favorite of mine especially while enjoying the video for a long time. To see all these artists leave their egos at the door as they were instructed to do by the director Quincy Jones and work for hours into the night to combine so many different styles of voice, character and genres of performers was absolutely inspiring. Of course my favorite of the group was the Voice...Steve Perry who I wish had been given more to sing, but in the end it was all perfectly worked out. There is a video that was made during the taping and production of how the song and video came together and it’s actually quite interesting to see how it all came together. I thought about that when you mentioned what it must have been like for each performer when it was their turn if they forgot their lyrics. Trust me, in the video, The Making of We Are The World, they show how many times and takes and re-do’s and changes were made to get to the masterful outcome. Even and especially down to Ray Charles when it came to his parts. Watching him play, sing and dance in front of the piano was something to witness. There was also some comedy when it came to Cyndi Lauper’s part because of all of her jewelry and the noises that were being picked up on the recording when she was jumping around. I agree with you and only wish that we still had those type of amazing artists around that would be willing and able to give it a go again for relief for other great causes that are so desperately needed in our world today. Always love watching the music fill you with emotion and take you to a new place with each reaction. I would absolutely LOVE to see your reaction to a solo by Steve Perry that is absolutely gorgeous and perfectly crystal clear. Steve’s voice is hauntingly beautiful and powerful while telling a beautiful message the way most Journey songs do. The song is called “Missing You.” It’s from a solo album called For The Love of Strange Medicine. You can search for the live version on UA-cam which is astounding and there is also an official video in which Steve is in the video. Enjoy friend and thanks for the great reaction♥️

Another song What More Can I GIve. It was recorded after 9/11.She was not normally released due to MJ's problems with Sony. But it is a great song with Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Ciline Dion, Ricky Martin, Usher, Nick Carter, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Santana, Gloria Estefan, Shakira...

Stevie Wonder was the one who signed the beginning graphic with his fingerprint. Makes sense, since he's been blind for practically forever.

Nothing more to say, nothing more to add to your emotional, fantastic and heartfelt reaction, HAP🤩. It was on point and hopefully today's artists have heard your call to start something similar. Put your egos aside and just create something wonderful that will last for eons and eons to joy future generations and to carry this important message across🤩😊.
    Thank you HAP️🥰🙋🏻‍♀️

You need to watch the making of this song. This was an hours long process. They worked through the night until the sun came up. It was recorded in a bunch of pieces.

now more than ever we should be united and feel connected. So many legends in one room, it's a shame we've lost many of those great voices. Everyone in that room was known and loved worldwide. Music now just seems to be missing something. To me, it doesn't have the same passion and impacts it did back then.

A perfect song for a perfect goal! All the great artists coming together not to compete will each other by join in unison for wonderful cause. What was wonderful they all stayed true to their style of performing and that made it all the more special. Will there ever be something close to this with our newer artist? That's yet to be seen. Hopefully the artists of today would stop competing with each other and genuinely come together. For many worthwhile reasons. Fantastic reaction,Hap 💜🎵💜🎵 a most fitting song for this time of year or anytime. Great request Debra, S.

With the Ethiopian famine in '84-'85 artists got together to raise funds to help. Thus this song from the US. Canada also did it with their artistsa singing "Tears Are Not Enough" and in Britain they did it with "Do They Know It's Christmas". A concert was perfomed in Philadelphia and London with the greatest bands and was simulcast with one third of the world watching it live during which I was in Canada taking donations over the phone. That was the humanity of the day.

That was Al Jarreau at the beginning i totally forgot he was in this! The lineups don't get any better than these people freaking legends!! and they all did it for free not to mention this was recorded right after an awards show so these people were literally up all night to do this! No "superstar" these days would do that.

The man standing by Harry Belafonte is comic actor Dan Ackroyd. Dan was one of the early SNL cast members. And an awesome musician as well. He was half of SNL music/comedy duo the Blues Brothers with John Belushi. And in the middle of it all is 60's voice of his generation and counter-culture icon, Bob Dylan. FYI - his son Jakob Dylan fronted 90's singing sensation group The Wallflowers. Michael Jackson wrote this song and it was produced by Quincy Jones. Like others in the day, I counted down the days to watch it's debut on MTV or VH1. I don't remember which one. The pairing of Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen was genius. Their voices contrasted beautifully.

Stevie Wonder did the thumbprint. There's a making of this music video on UA-cam that shows him doing it. Everyone was excited to see each other and were giving others their autographs and hugs. The picture with the autographs became a poster. Even superstars can be fans of other artists. It's in the UA-cam making of this video. Helping each other out when needed. A sign outside the door saying Leave your egos at the door. And they did.

I’m just gonna add in these comment that though MJ, Quincy and Lionel get all the props (and rightly)….the one person most responsible for this never gets mentioned. The oldest person in the room, Harry Belafonte. He came up with the idea, he and his partner approached others who said no to it. MJ and Quincy were just the first to agree to take it on.,
