Fun fact: The face Amity made when she saw Luz destroying the tunnel of love is the same face she made when Grom riped her note. She was literally seeing her worse fear becoming a reality.
That is a fear that I think Amity wouldn't have been able to dismiss from the events of grom. When Luz offered to go to grom with Amity asked "You'd do that for me?" Luz replied "That's what friends do." Leaving the question at the root of the fear unanswered.
Imagine you have a crush on someone, you make a romantic move, only to immediate regret it afterwards. Then, the next time you meet, you end up on an incredibly schmaltzy, but endearing, love ride. You begin to think there might be something there only for your crush to frantically destroy all of those romantic decorations calling the whole thing a mistake. There's a fear of simply getting rejected by your crush and then there's THAT. Thank goodness for Hooty's subsequent meltdown or Lumity might've never happened.
When this episode aired, I swore I could sense a disturbance in the force. Like thousands of voices yelling out "YEAH, HOOTY!", to immediately be followed up with "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Fun bit of trivia: the tether connecting Eda to the Owl beast is reference to the concept of the red string of fate that can connect two people. She’s stuck with her curse, but it doesn’t have to be a horror.
This whole episode can be summed up with the phrase: task failed successfully. Good job Hooty. King doesn’t fall into any of the normal categories of demons, but that means he’s unique. Eda got a sleek new harpy form, and she finally made a peace with her curse. And last but not least our two lovebirds are officially dating
He even saved the letter for an opportune time. If they had found it now and went to the Titian Trappers early Luz wouldn't have made the connection between the Grand Huntsman and the Collector, plus they might not have been able to escape from them with how less-developed Luz was in combat at the time. Plus there was less chance of word getting out about King being a Titian, because if word leaked... hoo boy, Belos would have been all over them.
I know Hollow Mind is considered the highest rated episode...but this, to me, is the perfect episode. The arcs, the animation but especially the writing. And all in a Hooty episode.
i love how, after helping Amity up, holding each other hands feels so right to them that they don't notice or stop until she get's surprised by Eda's new look. Good job, Dana, with that subtlety.
This episode is SO great, the whole time you’re thinking it's a Hooty centric episode and then BAM!!!! It hits you with the official Lumity canon moment. Dana Terrace is a fuckin' genuis.
11:15 I don't think this is an animation error. I believe her wrist is supposed to be at the bottom of the screen because she has her elbows bent like she has her fists raised up.
I think it's an error caused by them looking at their own frame & thinking the same thing you think. Because I thought it too but it makes no sense to me when I actually look at it. For the part of her hand at the bottom of the screen to be where her wrist is, her knuckles would need to be angled super differently. Based on what we can see in the frame, if her wrist is down there, it's paper thin. The fingers on that hand are angled almost exactly the same as the hand in the background & yet nothing else about the two hands lines up with each other if we assume the foreground hand is angled in a way that would let her wrist be offscreen. And even then, that would mean her fingers are on the right side of her hand instead of the top.
The thing to realize is the part where the owl beast is captured and turned into a scroll is not Eda's dream, it's the owl beast's. Hooty got *so* close to being helpful...so close...

I don't know i you've seen or know about Amphibia, but it's another Disney show that takes place in the same universe as The Owl House. Anyway, the voice actors did a crossover script reading episode that takes place before this episode. You can find it here on UA-cam. Fans also did fan-art visuals for it, so you actually have something to watch while listening, It's only 10 minutes, but it's worth checking out. So is Amphibia in general.
High school biology, I was fine *trying* to dissect the frog... but my ADHD clumsy hands were only really good at stuff like video games and typing, where the result is *consistent* most of the time. Tried to cut gently, end up leaking out fluids, etc. My lab partner for that part was an aaaaaaaabsolute brat because she always pushed herself hard but struggled, while I picked things up easily for the most part, and e generally had nothing in common, so I really just wanted to get it done and over with, but I will say this: She asked if she could try and took over with patience... and had *the* *hands* *of* *a* *surgeon* . It was then we both realized that we both had things we weren't good at, and things we were good at, and she stopped being upset with me on stuff that was just how I was wired being different. I never had been making fun of her for where she was having issues, and I didn't argue about who should dissect, because I literally didn't care one way or the other, just that she had asked me to because she didn't want to make a mess. I messed up, and she saw it really wasn't a big deal. Of course, after that unit in the class, we didn't really interact much afterward, but it was the point where she stopped being bratty to me both in and outside of the class. Never had an issue with her the rest of my time in high school. People are imperfect, and that's fine. Everyone is imperfect in their own way. I think, like Amity, my lab partner was feeling pressure from parents on grades and other things, and literally thought everyone was looking for any opportunity to show her up, or to put her down. It took someone else doing something so poorly *and* *not* *having* *an* *ego* *about* *it* for her to realize that, yeah, let someone else do what they're good at, and figure out what you're good at with your own pace. Don't even remember her name, but seeing how much she loosened up after that unit, as well as other things going on that year... finally made it so I could let up about other things myself, even if not about academics. It just took me time to learn the same lesson she learned from a different perspective, applied in a different context, but the same issue of stress and denying the care of the predicted consequences of failure. in my case, near the end of sophomore year, I stopped someone bullying a friend to the point of contemplating suicide. All I did was a single punch to the head bully's nose, and a promise to do it again if I heard anything more about bullying any of my friends. I never stood up for myself, but I did for my friend then, and made sure not to let the bully know which one I was worried about the most. I fully expected to be beat up by the bully or his friends when I would least expect it, or to be expelled, or sued by his rich parents. Dozens of people witnessed it. No one did a damn thing. That friend moved away that summer, and had already moved around for most of their life, but things at least did let up for the end of that school year. I lost track of them until earlier this year, but I at least saw they were still alive, which was the only thing I worried about all these years. That the bullying that happened before I met them, and up till I stopped that one bully, would just continue somewhere else, where no one would stand up for them. I don't know anyone ever bullied them elsewhere, or if someone else stood up for them, but I'm just glad that whatever happened later in their life, they still were living one. That I did step in and take the risk of whatever consequences happened. Those two situations shaped my final two years of high school, as well as everything after. Everyone is imperfect in their own way. Be true to yourself, and help others be their true, authentic selves as well. Remove the ego, accept help, and offer it freely. Stand up for those that need it, and stand up for yourself when you do as well. And as quoted from Galaxy Quest, "Never give up, never surrender."

This was around the time there was a chance that no season 3 was going to be released, so the writers using Hooty as was to "force" plot development in the 3 main characters was brilliant, it fit with what hooty would do and it probably shrink the plot needed for at least 3 episodes into 1, probably even more episodes if things where left to develope on their own. You'll notice soon some story development being done in some side stories, some even off screen.
3:00 I did! 3:50 I didn't have to do a frog. I had to do a cow eyeball. I also had to do wit with a cast and half my left hand immobilized, which made things rather more awkward. 26:00 Yeah, it'll be a bit more before King finds out who and what he really is.
This episode is so genius! The fact that they squeezed 3 separate stories tied together with the 4th, Hootie’s story, advanced the plot in every aspect, and then gave us a big plot point at the end and halted it immediately. And they did it in 20 minutes. The one thing I can compare this to in story efficiency is the Tales from Ba Sing Se from Avatar. But that wasn’t nearly as plot relevant for most stories. Genius effing episode.
Yknow, you wouldnt think "Hooty vignette episode" would have massive character development for all 3 members of the main cast and make for one of the most important episodes of the whole show, but here we are.
I’m pretty sure the “him” when talking to Raine was actually Eda saying “them” and it’s just a typo with the captions because Raine is said to be they them
So a rough guess at the timeline comes to it being about I'd say 10 days minimum since Luz and Amity last saw each other. Episode 5 was likely a Saturday as there was school the day before and everyone was out elsewhere in 5 the race was on the weekend so the race was either the next Saturday or sunday being 7 and 8 days after respectively and Eda looks like she's operating on 3 days without sleep. So Amity ment it when she said fairwell forever and would have likely continued avoiding Luz if Hooty didn't kidnap her
The beauty of this episode is that it got almost everyone (myself included) thinking that it was gonna be filler just by the title. If that was the mindset Dana was expecting just to 180 us, that is a pro writer move 😂 My ONLY nitpick with this episode, apart from Hooty eating King’s letter - I don’t think Luz or Amity ever thanked Hooty for helping them, even if his methods were… his methods 😅. Maybe it was mentioned later and I just forgot, but Hooty deserves all the praise.-
In theory, it's about the only type of dissection I find interesting but I could never actually do it. Good thing I was never told to. None of my classes ever did dissections.
In the spirit of the show, even in his own episode about helping the others and being genuinely positive, they still had to make you mad at Hooty at the end lmao
It's part of the reason why Hootie's one of the few well written examples of the butt monkey trope. Because even though he's often treated unfairly, you can see why & even get mad at him yourself while watching.
Fun fact about 22:05 the sparkle colors in the background of the shots of amity and luz are different colors representing their sexuality. Amity is the lesbian flag color scheme and Luz is the bisexual flag color scheme.
Because of the title, when this was originally airing, a lot of us assumed this was gonna be a fluff episode with Hooty. MAYBE a little backstory if we were lucky. WE WERE NOT READY
when it comes to dissecting in school, here there was exactly one time i remember us doing it. i was a fish, don't remember what species but i remember it being small, it was in preschool, we weren't the first class in line to do it that day, and they hadn't bought enough fishes for all kids so when it was our turn we just got one single fish we were supposed to look at. nothing came out of that
I've been watching these with my girlfriend since I've also never seen it and I was so upset with Hooty, especially when everything else was getting resolved. It was a problem lol.
Knowing she finished the whole series, one of the things that still bugs me is the origin of the Owl Beast, was that the Collector or one of their siblings, why were they trying to seal the Owl Beast in a possession scroll, and are there more of them out there. and Since it was a physical creature originally what does that mean with the curse split with Lilith? There are fan theories, like its a different kind of Titan, or the Owl beasts were the guardians of young titans, but nothing confirmed, just a big mystery. Honestly feel had season 3 not needed to be condensed we might have had a side episode going more in depth on that.
I have the mental idea that this episode was made after the creator was informed she wouldn't get a full third season, so she decided to kick the show into high gear by developing all three of the main characters at the same time using the fourth as the vehicle.
Actually, they didn't find out until after the first half of the season was written (which is why the second half feels so rushed in comparison). We were always going to get this episode regardless of the cut.
I blame Eda & Co., whom forced him to promise not to be helpful....aannd that's what he did. Though, maybe-possibly, the fumble could've helped in the long-run . lol
13:52 that is a subtitle mistake. If you listen Eda says “stop pushing them away” not “him away” that kind of thing happens a few times in this show. But no Raine is They/them only.
I love that Hooty is mostly depicted as being as smart as a sentient owl should be. If housepets could talk, Most would be like hooty exactly. huh. thinking on it, hooty acts EXACTLY like housepet. Wait. House. Pet. IS THAT THE JOKE?
The only things in school i had to disect wre owl pellets and a cow eyeball (it had a catteract, i was jealous at my lab partner that day because we did rock paper scissors and he won so he got to keep the removed catteract (after it was sterilized of course)
Yeah, there's Reason One I'm not the biggest fan of Raine. Don't get me wrong, they were right to break it off with Eda, she wasn't talking and letting them in, even if it was understandable why she didn't want to do so. What wasn't right was saying you're joining the Coven *in the same breath.* This wasn't too long after the petrifications stopped, not to mention they **knew** going into the relationship that Eda had no interest in being anything other than a Wild Witch. At best, they intended to carry on a touch and go relationship with Eda while a Coven Witch, at worst they thought they could convince her to change her beliefs and join a Coven. They can't claim ignorance to the Coven's practices either, like I said the petrifications were still fresh in people's minds, not to mention they were seeing a ***Wild Witch*** at the time, which means hearing about how Wild Witches are treated by the Covens. Forgive me if I overstep, but this feels a little like like leaving your Jewish girlfriend and joining the Reich right afterward to me. Even if the two events are unconnected to each other, something's screwy there.
Completely unrelated to anything other than 3:40 we dissected sheep lungs and hearts in high school. The teacher even gave us the opportunity to breathe into a tube and inflate the lungs.
Thank god when we did frog dissecting in biology I didn't fail for not participating, whole class was given the choice to do it or not. Had classmates do horrendous stuff tho like giving the frogs "haircuts"...it's exactly as messed up as you imagine it being honestly I wish we dissected owl pellets I woulda had fun with that xd

26:00 Yeah, it'll be a bit more before King finds out who and what he really is.
that he was actually a subtitle error, which happens alot because goddammit.
Hooty this entire episode: TASK FAILED SUCCESSFULLY.
So since hooty has a mother, his creation would have been like the handkerchief chain magic trick. thank gud he probably came out of an egg.
personally, the “stop pushing them away“. i understand it as a stop pushing everyone away.
also the big guy who left the letter is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson hes been in a lot of stuff
the ending of this episode never fails, everyone is always like "YES HOOTY" and followed by the IMMEDIATE " HOOTY NOOOOOOO", its like crack to me
Stoooop the fresh prince clip and watching it to cry is so real because I do that every like other month
I love that the owl pellet dissection story is soon followed up by Alicia wanting to dissect hooty to get king's letter back lmao
i still remember... the 180 that we made on the idea of a Hooty episode...
and then back to the status quo... oh Hooty...
Each of the plotlines in this episode could rightfully end with the Final Fantasy fanfare.
So Amity ment it when she said fairwell forever and would have likely continued avoiding Luz if Hooty didn't kidnap her
21:19 I laugh so goddamn hard everytime someone uses the word “dingdong” 🤣😂
Finally, the [[Quintessential Owl House Episode]]
25:29 the look on your face… PRICELESS. 😁
The confession scene in the official Taiwanese dub is so funny for other reasons.😂
6:02 DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER!!!
The beauty of this episode is that it got almost everyone (myself included) thinking that it was gonna be filler just by the title. If that was the mindset Dana was expecting just to 180 us, that is a pro writer move 😂
My ONLY nitpick with this episode, apart from Hooty eating King’s letter - I don’t think Luz or Amity ever thanked Hooty for helping them, even if his methods were… his methods 😅. Maybe it was mentioned later and I just forgot, but Hooty deserves all the praise.-
CUTENESS OVERLOAD!!! I seriously can't handle this much cuteness BUT I LOVE IT. Lumity makes me want to squeeze something
2:55 i actually liked doing that at school. We even got to put the little mouse skeletons together
Also, he did promise that he will never help them again. He is just keeping his promise
13:52 that was a subtitle error, if you listen to Eda she says 'them'
when it comes to dissecting in school, here there was exactly one time i remember us doing it. i was a fish, don't remember what species but i remember it being small, it was in preschool, we weren't the first class in line to do it that day, and they hadn't bought enough fishes for all kids so when it was our turn we just got one single fish we were supposed to look at. nothing came out of that
24:27 i love how this reduced you to a bubbling mess
The He part refeering to raine was a subtitle fuck up. Ignore it.
4:44: I never noticed but one of the traits says "Pocket Monster" XD
11:23: Oh wow! I don't know why I didn't realize that! What the Hell!? XD
@gamerbear84 Ohhh. Ok. But I swear the arm looks dettatched and the hand is rotated floating in the air.
Three epic storylines for the price of one. All kneel to the cotton candy haired goddess!!
Knock knock knockin' on Hooty's door can be summed up in four words: YES YES YES NO
I really like how the setup for this ep is like a filler episode, but ends up being the extreme opposite. It's a really funny subtle meta joke.
YES! SHE FINALLY MADE IT TO THIS EPISODE! 🤗
Not Hooty fumbling right at the finish line!
I blame Eda & Co., whom forced him to promise not to be helpful....aannd that's what he did. Though, maybe-possibly, the fumble could've helped in the long-run . lol
Yeah, knowing what we know now, he was doing King a favor there.
Hooty he is sometimes the best...and sometimes he is the f*ckin' worst. Goddammit Hooty
13:52 that is a subtitle mistake. If you listen Eda says “stop pushing them away” not “him away” that kind of thing happens a few times in this show. But no Raine is They/them only.
I could never do the frog dissection because one I felt guilty and two it smelled horrible 🤢
One of the most wholesome episodes in anything ever. Also common hooty w
This is one reason why Hooty is perhaps my favorite character
This episode was the moment the LGBTQ fans won. It had all lead up to the official reveal of one of the most adorable lesbian couples in media.
"aaaaw daddy issues awwww"
- Alicia, finding daddy issues adorable since 2024 apparently 💀😭😭
Yep knew she'd love this episode 😁
Hooty is really that pet you own that just be eating the most random ish lol
I love that Hooty is mostly depicted as being as smart as a sentient owl should be.
If housepets could talk, Most would be like hooty exactly.
huh. thinking on it, hooty acts EXACTLY like housepet.
Wait. House. Pet.
IS THAT THE JOKE?
The only things in school i had to disect wre owl pellets and a cow eyeball (it had a catteract, i was jealous at my lab partner that day because we did rock paper scissors and he won so he got to keep the removed catteract (after it was sterilized of course)
23:32 I had that exact same reaction. 😂🤣❤️💜
11:40 i wacht this scen 4 time and this is the ferst time that i notice this
Alicia at the end: Oh no
Me after every time she said it: OH YEAH XD
also LOVE this episode it's AMAZING
17:16 right?? That freakin house demon is creepy as all sin! 🤣😂
I hate that they canceled this show there's so much that feels like it was supposed to be done
0:45 god I love Cissy Jones’s voice in this. Sleek, smooth, and sexy. And the lady can sing! 🤘🏻🎶 I love you Lily!! 🤘🏻🥰🖤💚
This episode had me in Shock when it dropped 😳🥳
I’ve been waiting for this episode, cause everybody lost their mind with this one
I’ve never thought I’d hear “gaybies”
Completely unrelated to anything other than 3:40 we dissected sheep lungs and hearts in high school. The teacher even gave us the opportunity to breathe into a tube and inflate the lungs.
Thank god when we did frog dissecting in biology I didn't fail for not participating, whole class was given the choice to do it or not. Had classmates do horrendous stuff tho like giving the frogs "haircuts"...it's exactly as messed up as you imagine it being honestly I wish we dissected owl pellets I woulda had fun with that xd
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again;
We got all of this...from a HOOTY EPISODE?!?
This is the episode we’ve been waiting for
