    Your video gave me the courage to reinstall my alpine windows after a local shop botched the job. Repeatedly chanting ‘patience’, got them all in. Set no time records but your instructions were easy to follow for a first-timer. Did the second alpine in under 15 min. Thank you!

      Job done. Cheers Mike.I didn’t have anyone to help me lift the roof rack off so wedged a load of fence panels under it. Lifted it enough to get all the way round the seal. I used a right angle pick to fit the new seal, not ideal but did the job fine. Unfortunately the filler had perished too much on one side so as a bodge( which worked very well surprisingly) I cut a section out of the old seal which had a very similar profile to the filler. Plenty of WD40, 3 brews and 4 hours later all was in and solid. Cheers again.

    Hi, just spent a full day (less a few coffee breaks) fitting one Alpine window to my mate’s Series 3 station wagon, which also has a safari roof. Like your experience with the roof rack this was awkward. But the real problem was the size of the window to the roof aperture. The glass seemed really small and wouldn’t stay in the seal groove while fitting the retainer. Even though no new parts other than the seal and retainer were involved. In the end we prevented the lower edge of glass from sitting in the seal groove by placing a ruler between them. This fully engaged the upper glass edge into the seal while we fitted the retainer. Once we were had 50% of the retainer fitted we removed the ruler and were able to fit the rest of the retainer. Using this method, with lots of WD40, it took about 30 minutes. with the retainer in place the window sizing seems good and secure, the seal seems to spread significantly with the retainer in place. We found the special tool with roller just popped the glass out, and just used an old screwdriver to bush the retainer into place. Glad it’s finished. Thanks for all the good advice, and great video content.

      It's not easy and the ones I did were factory cut, but the glass was still tight
      Well done - least you didn't cut the seal like I did on one or two

    So I followed your video today to put in the alpine windows, and after I got it seated in the surround seal, it wasn't stable and kept wanting to pop out. Did I not cut down the outer seal enough so it's being pushed out? I'm always concerned of cutting the seal too short and leaving a gap. Any advice as after an hour of trying to get it in, I got super frustrated! Thank you!

    Doing this on my series 2a, orderes from britpart it said to fit series but it seems like the selal is not thick enough, when i fit it first i csnt just nudge the window inside since it just falls through, the window is too small to get to the lip on the other side. Any ideas? Is the seal wrong or am I doing something wrong?

      The glass has had the same dimensions since the Series 1, however there is 5 mm glass and 4mm glass - I think you can only get seal for 5 mm now - maybe the hole is not cut right?

      @@BritannicaRestorations Thanks for the reply. The hole is original as far as I know and I'm not sure for glass thickness. Spent whole day today and managed to fit it but there is gapfrom seal to aluminum. • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  5 років тому

      If you got the template from Masai, marking out will be easy, but cutting is tricky as you only have one shot. A grinder with a thin slitting disk is good and by taking small chunks out you can do the rounded ends - but cut the hole smaller as you can file or grind it out, but you cannot put metal back on
      For me I have a metal template I run round with the plasma - but I do a few
