- Pantoprazole Weird Side Effects (Skin, Infections, Nutrient Deficiencies) & Why They Occur
Pantoprazole (also known as Protonix, and Pantoloc) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medication used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; acid reflux) via inhibition of acidification of the stomach. Pantoprazole, like other PPIs through their ability to reduce stomach acid, can cause a wide variety of side effects, including nutrient deficiencies, gastrointestinal infections and increased risk of medical conditions like osteoporosis. Some side effects can be more atypical or “weird”, which we will discuss in this lesson.

Our prescribers should either verbally tell us these things, i.e. "informed consent," and/or send this link with the patients before they make their decisions to choose these treatments. Thank you're so much for making a very easy to understand teaching on this!
Thanks for side effects of these meds.
Hi Doc! Critical Care Old Nurse here! I’m just thinking about the Respiratory Risks, Upper Respiratory Infections and Pneumonia. Do you think that the medicine can definitely cause these? Or, that perhaps, a GERD patient already HAS regurgitation that happens silently, perhaps at night- thus, leading to a predisposition of URI and Pneumonia? That’s just my general hypothesis and curious to know yours. Thanks so much! Great video!
I take this medicine thanks for the info
Thank you doctor. Very informative.
Sir please give a detailed leacture on SSRIs
thank you .i too take the pps but now i can link your reasonimg to my difficultys as i have been taking for three years now .i will stop from tomorrow .thanks it is very helpful as doctors simply prescribe this medicine withoit even basic warming about any medicines they gove .
Thank you so much for this info !
I've been taking omeprazole for 6 years, and it's causing chronic iron deficiency anemia due to the low stomach acid. Stomach acid helps with iron absorption.
@bird.passion That's interesting. I'm 53 now, but from the age of 22, I was put on 20mg of Omeprazole daily due to a Something hernia. My doctor did warn me back then, though, that only take them. When really necessary because new studies had just come out (back then) that it caused stomach problems, etc, later on in life, especially how young I was. I have really tried to only have one. When really needed but I can feel that my stomach needs to be checked again because I wake up throwing up now.
long-term PPI administration can lead to gastric atrophy.
Thanks for the lecture
Whoa! That all good news then .. not. I’m about to restart taking this stuff prior to a second gastroscopy procedure next month… none of these side effects were explained to me at all. Hence I researched it here and elsewhere. Cheers for the info
I take pantoprazol great!
I've been taking them for 30 years and have stomach problems
great
what about omeprozole
Is it known by any other names?
Protonix is the brand name
Edit: Protonix is the most common brand name in the US. It can go by several different brand names as well.
Pantoloc too.
Somac.
I have a lot of the side effects with this pill. I have been on since 2007 from my heart transplant. They never took me off of it. I have kidney issues , bowel , pain in chest at times, I get pains in my lower abdomen. Along with other ones. I heard I could replace this with apple cider vinegar. Is that true? I am also on anti rejection medication for the transplant. I think I will call my transplant team and see if I should still be on it.
I think you should get off this drug. There are many other things you can do/take that won't destroy your gut.
@ thank you. After watching the video. I stopped taking it. I’m filling up my pill case I’m not putting that in the cubes for this week. Thank you God bless all who are concerned. Love you all.
@@debrakane5279 Praise God! Good for you. God Bless you as well❣
I think you have to come off it slowly, speak to a pharmacist.
@@ldjt6184 so far I feel ok. No acid reflux or issues from stopping it. I will keep in touch. I know the Lord is with me . I’ll get through anything with Him.
Also I do have low magnesium and calcium. I’m on both extra absorption or fast. I’m on so many pills. I don’t think I need half of them. I take 10 to 13 in the morning and 8 at night.
How bout take baking soda- sodium bicarbonate a clean brand not metals.
Hello JJ Medicine, I am going to be really cheeky here but is there any way to change the video spelling to British English. I love them and some of the videos would be great for my students but they need to use British English particularly in practice.
I've taken Omeprazole for many years, because i suffer with GERD,and Gastritis, knot heartburn! I know your knot supposed,to be on them long term.
But in my case,i also suffer with Chronic Pancreatitis caused by CF! Edit to add:I've never suffered from any of the mentioned,i do suffer Oedema bilaterally in lower legs,I've never actually been told why, this is though,so now you've got me wondering,if this could be why Plz could you say if possible Thank-you!

Thank you very much. This medication played a HUGE role in the eventual death of my mother. DO NOT TAKE.
Thank you
@@HiNinqi
How long did she take it?
@@rolmodel12. Approximately 2 months.
Sorry to hear about your mother's passing. What was it about the medication that affected her negatively?
