I rode both the Street Triple R and the 790 Duke. I got down the street on the triple and had a huge grin on my face, it was a blast.
But when I went and rode the Duke, I had that same ear to ear grin before leaving the parking lot.
Everyone has a different taste and you won't know what fits you until you get out there and try them. I bashed the 790 since it's release because of it's looks, but after riding it, it's actually one of my favorite bikes I've had the chance to ride. ✌️

Looks is subjective, you like the triumph, but I think it looks terrible. The KTM bikes are great looking, super sharp lines and angles. Beautiful geometry with a great presence. Plus the orange and black combo is stunning.

@@alexv5581 I put a 1000 dollar deposit on mine after viewing KTM's promo vid. Chose the black/gray colour scheme and waited six months for mine to arrive. Also purchased the optional Akrapovic silencer because I thought the stock system was an aesthetic mess. One year later it is in the shop having a coolant leak remedied under warranty; I love this machine. It is far and away the most exciting street bike I have ever ridden and punches way above its weight compared to other supposedly comparable machines. It's a bargain as well. just try getting more bang for your buck.

Not sure if I am happy seeing this. I went to the same dealer looking for testing this bike out, basically told that if I am not 100% buying then I should go to a demo days weeks later instead of letting me trying the bike out. Mind you I wasn't just some random people who walked in, I was in my leathers while arriving on my 17 Tuono.

Benson Wang mountain motorsports is probably the worst dealership chain in existence. Every time I’ve been they’ve generally always been shady or unprofessional in some way. From denying me the ability to test ride a bike that I’ve literally told them I’ll buy right now if i enjoy the test ride to them charging an insane amount of “dealer fees” on top of the one bike I’ve purchased from them (lol I’ll never do that again).
My advice, avoid these mother fuckers like the plague unless they’re the only people who have something you’re looking for, lol but chances are they won’t have it either because they hardly have shit in stock.

I just bought the 790. MT 09 wasn't ever really in competition for me. 790 was much more fun to ride. I fit on KTM way better (I'm tall so legroom is key), it looks and sounds way better (personal view, I prefer twins) and build and finish is much nicer. Down to details like light up switches. One potential downside - we'll see what's reliability like. Bias disclaimer, I'm from Europe, so maybe local brand loyalty might be a factor.

owning one from june, i can tell you that it chews sportsbikes on mountain roads, and you know europe roads, it pretty much also destroys supersport (600 and even 1000) on the track, not in straightlines, but on the corners is just a freaking amazing bike, it also gets up to 60 mpg wich is just insane, did a few 9 hour all mountain road (and a bit oh highway) trip and you can keep going, best bike of the year hands down

I had a 2016 Suzuki GSX s1000f and it was lightweight, however, it had 145 horsepower. So, every time I rode it, it felt like holding a lit stick of dynamite.

    Nice video Chase :D
I live in Germany and currently ride a 2017 KTM Duke 125 (same frame wheels and everything as on the 390 that you mentioned and love except a little less power) and I'm also rocking some Highsider bar- end mirrors and a nice tail tidy to make the bike more beautiful. The dash setup and the way the controls are placed are exactly the same as on the 790 and I must agree it is hard to reach that indicator switch I agree man. I am also considering the 790 for my bigger licence and I can't wait to get one this September. Don't worry about the orange. If you don't like that there's actually a black version of the 790 and it looks absolutely gorgeous man! I enjoyed the video keep it up man. Very informative :D

I've had this bike for a year ,it's brilliant all rounder and fun fun fun .The only warning is that you are having so much fun that you tend to be speeding far too often .yes the rear brake leave was the first thing I adjusted and upgrade the pads to gain more feel .Standard tyres was shot by 1800 miles ,now using Pirelli angel gt2 which is a good upgrade and should achieve 6000 miles plus . I have gel inserts in the seats that's made it oh so much better and allowing comfortable touring days out .launch mode is great fun and the menu is easy and intuitive ,mirrors work great ,small screen allows 100 mph cruising in comfort .This has become the only bike I need .R&G heated grips work superb and cost 25% of the cost of the factory grips .

I bought this bike last August after my 900 Tracer was stolen (FJ-09 for you across the pond) And being so much lighter than the FJ and not having a screen it feels so much faster. The throttle response is pretty aggressive but you get used to it. I don't have the stock exhaust, I have the Akra. This bike is small which works for me, I'm 5"8 but it also means traffic doesn't matter because it can slide between gaps other bikes may struggle. I had a 790 demonstrator for a day last summer and it's a super fun bike with far more power than you'd ever believe an 800cc twin could make, it's ultra flickable and has a great electronics package but the looks just put me off it completely, I know looks are subjective but the 790 is completely different to the really nice prototype.

except its 949cc and ktm is 799cc i think the duke is more of a middle class. I tested em both and the ktm due to ergonomics is the one i bought. Also a 4 vs 2 cillinder engine is a big difference. the 2 give more of a agressive feel. It makes me ride the bike like a hooligan :p

Just as you said in your video it’s nice to have something that’s more unique I’m pondering on this bike or the 790 Adventure R but gotta say the bikes angles and lines of the 790 look so sharp! I just got a 2018 Street Triple RS and had test ridden the 790 Duke as well - the engine on the 790 is awesome (but so is the Street Triple) in the end I found the 790 to be one of the most uncomfortable bikes I have ever ridden so the Triumph won out, even if the lower down power and torque of the 790 is more readily available for street riding than the Street Triple. Yes the Triumph has more but you have to be wringing its neck to really notice the difference.

  • @SweDownhill

Haven't tried the 790 Duke, but I do own a Street Triple RS myself, and I love it. It's easy to ride, performs like a beast, it looks great, and the display is both responsive and customizable, these are just a few of all the pros.. The lack of downward quickshifting is one of the cons however, but that doesn't disturb me.

If I were in the market for a "Naked Bike" or any bike, these are the things I would be looking at. Also insurance cost. I like the auto bliper but would I want to pay that much for it? Nope! I have a Duke 390 right now and I am planning on getting a 790 here soon to upgrade. I was looking at the street triple r as another option. For me the looks and electronics make me like the Duke more. The suspension on it is really damn good too. Adjustable suspension I think is just one of those things that people want just because with no real reason to have it. I don't have a desire to track my bike, if I did I think I would lean towards the triumph. For the kind of riding I do though the ktm fits better. Also there are a LOT of fz09s and street triples where I live so the cool factor of having something a little different is 👌

I will go for the duke as my next bike. Compared with the MT/FZ-09 and the street triple. The main advantages over the other bikes in my personal view are mostly the "Supermoto" feel and also the electronics pack. I´m really into high tech stuff especially when it improves security and comfort.
I rode a WR250x for the past years, and the super light feeling and the freedom in the seating position mean a lot to me. The MT feels to heavy and sluggish for me coming from a 130kg bike and the street triple is too sporty in its position. Had a ninja for a little while, and sporty isn´t my thing.
Like you said, it´s strange to have non adjustable suspension on it. Probably a cost thing. But it seems to be really good anyway. I absolutely agree that adjustability is a big thing, even the WR has it, but I might be ok with it not being a thing on the duke.

@@Zalonka Sorry you feel that way but that's your opinion. With the additional technology on the XSR900 it may be a bit heavier but is very enjoyable to ride. And NO, I would not consider KTM a major manufacturer when you look at # of units sold worldwide compared to HD, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. I never said they were poor bikes, never ridden one so can't speak for that, but I've never seen one on a showroom floor or on the street either. Except this has all the bells and whistles you'd die for on your first bike.. like double the power and rider.modes that make.sense ! It's just perfect for the streets and mountain riding ( coming from Victoria BC ) my 3 complaints were the stock tires the turn signal and the front fender cover plate seems like an afterthought.... With premium rubber this bike really does become much easier to ride agressivly.
