Melee's presence in EVO is nothing but detrimental to what EVO wants to be. Usually you gamers are against making decisions for profit, but when it comes to your favorite games, profit is king? The melee community has been known to be toxic and it works in nobody's favor to be supporting a 15+ year old game instead of the latest installment that's already being played. Most melee pros are adapting to Ultimate anyway. UNIST over feels.
As a Melee fan, I was pretty salty at first when I heard melee was dropped. But I realized that other communities really wanted their games to have the chance to be on the main stage. And they deserve it. And its not like melee was the only game getting dropped. But looking through the comments, I was pretty disappointed with how many people were just hating other communities and their game. Melee is a wonderful game, on the outside its easy to understand with all characters having equally sized small movesets (compared to other fighting games). But on the inside the game has a large amount of depth with amazing mechanics that require precise inputs preformed at breakneck speeds that I have fallen in love with. Its very different from most other fighting games and that's ok. If you don't like Melee, that's ok, we have our preferences. I'm just not happy with all of the hate Melee and its community are getting. I also don't like how the melee players are reacting to this. We are spitting out a lot of hate, but we are getting a lot of hate ourselves so its not like I don't understand. So in the end, Ill still be watching evo. I like Smash Ult, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter. And Ill watch some of the new stuff, maybe Ill like it. Melee is a great game and so is everything else at evo (U too MvC, DOA, and Guilty Gear). K I'ma go take a shower now, smell ya later.

My friend is even more of a hard core fan and yet he is afraid to talk about melee now because of how the community is. Also to be honest I saw it more as a counter attack to the melee community since UNIST have one of the friendliest communities out there , but even they are starting to bash on melee. which is kinda saying something. IF you ask anyone who doesn't have a bias response who actually communicated with the community I can guarantee that they will say something similar as well or the exact same thing and even more. I honestly do think that UNIST deserve a year at the spot light. The UNIST community is quite similar to Melee when it comes to love and devotion to the game no matter what. Unlike melee though, They sadly never had the luxury that melee had. and seeing how the melee community been treating it; it is really sad to see. The UNIST had to face this before too when they got added to BB Xtag if i recall when the RWBY fanbase was bashing on the game because they were "taking up the rosters" .

I still wonder why people are upset over Melee not appearing. I mean, the scene for that game has become rather stagnant. You see the same faces and characters over and over, especially since it's a harder fighting scene to get into. Let alone we are also talking about Ultimate, a game that is Fresh, New, And Full of Potential. In addition, a new game means we can see veteran Smash Players and New Players on the scene, which makes things a lot more interesting. Then again, this is the thoughts of a simple observation, perhaps I am missing something. Then again, it's not like Melee players will have to, get this, play a new game. Also, no, I'm not making BO jokes, it's been overdone
I actually really like seeing the same players (kinda). The competitive history of the game has a really great story and newer people are getting much better at the game. It makes upsets really interesting and eventful, because there is so much history behind it.
Guess it is more about how much money publishers pay to get their games in, top viewership of evo 2018 was dragonball, then melee, then sfv then a HUGE drop off of around 150,000 viewers to the other games, cant see why there's a lot of games getting a chance this early without even pulling the numbers but i'm still gonna watch and see whats good. Hope it can keep the interest going and boom off the opportunity EVO brings.

SC6 has clothes ripping and shit, but because of DOA's negative conatation it gets shafted... And big tournaments like EVO are not helping it get its due.
