I just watched the entire video and I gotta say: The storylines of the last couple years have been amazing. Amsa almost becoming number 1 in the world, the rise of Cody, Zain, Jmook, and the pantheon becoming the elder gods. I am so hecking hyped for Genesis 10 and Full Bloom(which is the first major I'll ever be attending)
seeing mang0 and hbox fall behind at Genesis this year was not so surprising. The competition is insanely fierce in this new era. Amsa, Cody, and Zain just seem miles ahead of everyone else
I think once the golden age ended and the dark ages started that’s when the rule set was modified. Genesis 2 got mute city banned and mongo jungle, and one of the roms (the one pp won) got rainbow cruise banned. Also thx for the complement bro
Man this is giving me so much nostalgia. My first tournament that I watched was Apex 2015, then I watched just about all of these live since then. This reminded me of so many crazy sets and of so many great players that you see in the background. I had almost forgotten about Ice until his simultaneous popoff with armada haha. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Some favorite moments: PPMD vs Armada, apex 2015. Remember the meme of armada (actually i think it was leffen from an earlier set) as fox with his hand covering his face and ppmd as marth sipping out a chalice? Classic ahah Leff winning GOML, i believe he had to play all 4 active gods in a row to win that, was crazy. Mango winning press start, mang got dq’d cuz he showed up late so he won that entire tournament through losers lol, look up the combo video “mango pressed start” classic Axe winning summit. I still remember after axe won summit and vectorman came in to congratulate him, makes me emotional every time lmao M2k winning summit and not believing it, hilarious Another mang moment, but when mango beat zain to win summit iirc no fox had beaten zain for like 2 years or some shit, the clips really won’t do the moment justice.
Ken, armada, mango, hbox and Zain were so dominant in their primes it was wild. Azen was also winning lots during that time it was insane how consistent he was.
What an incredible video!!! :O I'm gonna be watching this across a LOT of days, this is one of the most ambitious editing projects for this game that I've seen •∆• It would be fun to do some kind of ranking of the most and least hype tournament endings, too! Smash Summit 8 and Royal Flush would probably be the top, CEO Daytona would probably be the bottom.
I’m making a video similar to your idea with the rankings, so I’ll be sure to rank some tournaments! Great idea bro and I’m glad you’re enjoying the video!
there is a very clear moment in this video where the game and crowd audio is quiter (about 25 min in) and its never as loud again. i think it really detracts from the hype as the commentators after this point typically just talk over the game rather than having to shout and get loud
Maybe but I strictly used the tournaments listed on ssbwiki, and adding online majors is kind of tricky. Do I add them during 2021 as well? What about the beginning of LACS4 at the beginning 2022? Its hard to know when to draw the line.
This is just making me realize how much Axe and Plup have lost in grands
Fr, Sheik's are cursed to always be the silver surfer. People nowadays think it's a jmook thing but it happened to plup all the time too.
i like how there's a 5 year period where not only is every event won by a god, all but one have 2 gods in gfs LMAO
Insane time period
Hilarious seeing some of the stages in the grand finals of the early days, like Onett lmao
man you have no idea how cool this is
thank you for your hard work
This is so validating to hear bc this took fucking ages
thank you for your sacrifice @@MooMania4
This is a really valuable resource to keep track of history for this awesome video game
30:10 insane handshake to fist bump conversion from leffen great read
As I grew up, I moved on but this was beautiful to watch. I remember a lot of these.
u should make the years bigger in the thumbnail, good stuff!
Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I think 2022 was the best year to watch as a spectator in melee history.

very nice video to show every final stock in major tournaments
Seeing how much the game has evolved since the first tournament is wild
Really impressive work!!! Now do every single top 8 for every tournament ever, unedited in full 😁
Oh god… HAHA. Maybe one day.
This is an amazing video. Its crazy how long it took for the modern ruleset to be used.

Classic moments. Yeah for me apex 2015, summit 11 and evo 2016 grands were my favourite moments.
showing how dominant ken really was too.. damn!

it goes to show how long the story of melee is! all of these people deserve to be remembered!@@MooMania4
I can’t wait to watch through this and see the evolution of skill in the players. This is gonna be so great
What an incredible video!!! :O

40:22 hit this moment exactly
I have never seen Isai Samus before.
Or a chudat fox, or an Azen falcon.
Well done

Hmm. Weird that the audio started quitting. I’ll make sure to tell the audio to start instead of quitting. Thanks for the heads up
4:23 "Chillin is huggin Azen, it's looks real gay"
I am so glad this bullshit is done.
Old smash was something else lmaooo
should have had more online tourneys during the pandemic
Maybe but I strictly used the tournaments listed on ssbwiki, and adding online majors is kind of tricky. Do I add them during 2021 as well? What about the beginning of LACS4 at the beginning 2022? Its hard to know when to draw the line.
