@djcarlitosatl the waiting list is on the silver...the black was available at the camera stores we visited in London, including Fuji store at Covent Garden...here in South Africa the black one is also available...my wife has silver and I have black....we were on waiting list, which was not huge in South Africa...everywhere we we went, everyone looked at her camera and went " Wow, what an awesome camera" while not even giving mine a second glance...this is why I chose black, but my ego really wants silver🤣
Is it the instant satisfaction of clicking a ready-made photo that’s so visually appealing, which you can quickly share with friends, family, and on social media makes you enjoy that immediate experience. In contrast, taking raw shots and editing them later feels more delayed-where the satisfaction only comes at the end, not while you’re actually shooting.
I couldn't agree with you more. I got my x100vi and it really delivers on the promise of "digital film." On my trip to Italy, it was so nice to have this to slide in and out of my coat pocket and take hundreds of images ready to share with family and friends without any editing. It's literally been a joy to use. I disagree though -- I think people do need this camera; people like me. Professionals who fell out of love with the hobby they once had. If you don't want to pick up your camera to take pictures for the fun of it, if the tools you use don't inspire you to use them, it's time for a change. For me, the x100vi gave me a newfound joy for photography, and I couldn't be happier. You'll have to use it to understand it, if you haven't yet.
@@Gamalon7 fellow professional right here ✋🏼. Couldn’t agree more with you. I don’t even shoot raws. I eventually wanna test the Raw photos out on this thing for fun. Or do the jpeg+raw setting on the camera to get the best of both worlds. But realistically I know I’m not gonna edit the photos from this camera lol 🤣 so probably best to just stick with the Fuji film simulations. Classic Negative has been my favorite so far.
This is the reason I got the Ricoh GR IIIx and it’s reason I’m still using it a ton. Being able to spend a whole day with people and before even leaving them getting to share the photos in a state I’m happy with is great. It’s actually quick enough of a process that if I’ve got an extra minute I’ll take the shot on the camera and immediately post it as a story instead of using my phone.
Going out with no expectations is genuinely the best experience. I went out scouting for the aurora and I happened upon my favorite autumn image of all time. I didn't plan for it. It just happened. There are rainbows out there, we just gotta go find them.
Well done. I’ve been saying this for years. It is so nice to see someone wrap it up so well. I’m a pro. Carrying my R5 means it’s work. A different mind-set. My phone is great but it’s not my vision. The first one I had was the X100f. I liked it in theory but it never felt natural to use. It never got out of it’s way to let me photograph. I bought the 100v when it came out and it was just right. Loved it ever since and have preached what you’re message here is to anyone who would listen. For years I walked my dogs daily in a nature preserve near me. This camera became my ‘dog walking’ camera. Others could not believe I shot what I did with it and loved the canine landscape photos. Last night I sat outside handing out candy on Halloween and kept it in my lap and photographed kids as they filled their bags. My R5 would have been too much but the phone would not have given me something I was happy with. The 100v was the perfect mix of being a photographer but being about what I was shooting and being unencumbered. There will be some here who will hate on this camera, it’s ‘looks’ or it’s price or whatever. They just need to experience it and find the camera that offers them what this one offered me, a pleasure to use.
I sold my X100F in January to fund the purchase of a X100VI. Due to the ridiculously long lead time of the X100VI I bought another (as new) X100F and didn't realise just how much I missed that camera. So much so that I now have no plans to replace it with a VI. My first camera was an Olympus OM10 with a 50mm prime which I bought in 1984. That's all I needed then, and being in the military it traveled with me everywhere documenting life wherever life took me. In those days I dropped the film into a local lab and got the prints back 4-5 days later. I got what I got, much like the way I approach photography with my X100F now, like you, JPEGS straight out of the camera. Yes, I have other cameras but the X100 is just a joy to use. Glad that you're enjoying yours too!
I can relate so much! My work camera is also a Canon R5, a true workhorse and extremely reliable... BUT I always associate it with work and my Fuji XE4 is my travel companion, my everyday-in my bag-camera and it's so much joy to shoot with it... lovely photography and fun to watch video 🙌🏻
Hi Alex. For the exact reason - I am using Fujifilm for 3 years now. Different approach - I have a X-T50 with pancake 27mm f/2,8mm for the compact, X100V-like experience. No edits, SOOC - I am in love.
You really nailed the point of this camera, and were able to showcase some of the beautiful images that it can create. It’s not about the tech specs, but instead about the entire experience, this camera can deliver. I as well have a pro mirrorless set up, and the X100 is still my favorite grab and go set up. Subbed!
I had quite a similar experience when I picked up a used M11 recently. It makes photography enjoyable, playful and more challenging again. Especially if it‘s your day job. But I would even go as far and say I care more about the end result than the experience - that‘s what kept me from buying a „fun“ camera for quite a while. But to my surprise I found that when you enjoy the experience more that also results in better pictures. You experiment more, try new things and want to shoot longer. Couldn‘t be happier with this purchase.
I was just talking about photos straight out of cameras, as jpegs, with no need for editing. This camera and the shots you've shared are exact examples of how simple photography can be without getting bogged down in the infinite details of lenses, bodies, etc. I am no pro, but I enjoy the photography that I do and could never spend hours editing photos without it being my real job. I really have enjoyed this video, I like the back to the roots feeling.
If you manage to enjoy doing photography just as a hobby, you could also just enjoy editing as a hobby. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to of course, but for me it's a pleasure by itself

I ordered my X100VI in February and have been waiting months for it. Actually kind of forgot about it and figured it would show up one day. And that it did. Out of the blue without even a shipping notification it showed up Friday evening and just using it on Saturday was just a joy. Can't wait to shoot more. Now I just need to try a bunch of recipes to see what I like...there's too many! But that's a good thing.
If don’t need a hood, I highly recommend NiSi UV Filter w/ built in adapter ring. It’s the most low profile option - have both Fuji & Squarehood hoods & adapters but they increase footprint a bit too much. Find I carry it way more with low pro NiSi
The X100VI offers a great photography experience and I find it worth the price even if it is considered exaggerated or sold at a higher price than listed. a camera that brings great feeling that nothing else can replace.
Alex, Great video, thank you. You’ve expressed me feelings precisely. Having owned a lot of cameras as a professional photographer (now retired), like you, I go to the stage where I associated cameras with work, so did not want to take work with me, when I was not working. I purchased the original Fuji X100, and experienced a real epiphany in my photography. The enjoyment, for the experience came back. It was rather ‘healing’. I’ve now owned every version of the X00 series and am waiting for my, long ago ordered, X100VI.
My wife and I just spent almost a month in Italy and London…she took no pics with her R5 and I shot under 300 on mine.. We used our X100vis all the time and had fun…did we come back with the images I had come from the other side of the earth to get? No , but we had so much fun playing, using the recipes, shooting jpeg and being challenged with a single focal length….and realising , as you say, that very few “ perfect” images were hanging in galleries or printed in books… We climbed on the plane slightly jaded and returned re energised and excited… We found so many functions like multiple exposure and Toy camera by accident….as lifelong Canon shooters we had a learning curve.. The stabilisation is superb as is the AF…non spare battery, just a power bank….It was an amazing experience… and did I mention FUN… On a side note , everyone commented on my wife’s amazing, cool camera (she has silver) and no one noticed my all Black x100vi and did not acknowledge me or engage about the camera😅😅.

I preordered mine on the night before release lol. Was back and forth on pulling the trigger on it for a week and realized I didn’t want to risk it when it came to Fuji’s production problem (even though they said they fixed them) I went ahead and did it. Then the problems with shipping happened. And I thought. I’m just gonna be another one of those X100V preorders that never gets filled for 4 years. Thought about cancelling my order but decided to stick it out. Then, 10 months later (last week), 😂a miracle happened and I got the email from B&H that my order was ready to ship! Now that I have the camera in my hand and have been using it nonstop for a few days. It was definitely worth the wait.
Based. Or even cheaper, slap a 40mm 2.8 on a 6D. A small normal lens and a high end sensor.. it just works. Mess with the jpeg settings. I've used an x100 and while it's nice, I wouldn't pay the money for one. I even passed up an original one for only 200 bucks, twice, before people inflated it's price.
I see the X100 line as somewhat of the “iPad of cameras”. Yes, we have the phone in our pockets all the time. Yes, we have super fast computers on our desks and in our backpacks. But at the same time, the iPad is that “between” device - better that the phone and good enough for most things a computer can do - but it’s a different experience…. It’s not just a big phone. Same goes for the X100. In my case, I’ve got my iPhone and a Sony A1 camera. Do I bring my A1 all the time? No. Do I use my iPhone for PHOTOGRAPHY? Not really. The A1 is a BEAST, but compared to the X100, it’s more tedious in use - the straight out of camera jpeg quality and “vibe” from the X100 is that “between” device that makes people love it.
My x100v is my favorite camera to shoot with. It’s not the sharpest thing or the best in low light, but the experience is SO much better! And the film emulation is super inspiring. I often still use the raw file, but the jpegs give me a nice starting point. Though I love it when I nail it right in camera.
I had one on order and gave up after finding out it would be at least 8 months for delivery. Went with a Canon R5 instead. If it actually ever becomes available I’ll re-visit.
Very well said. As someone who loves the ethos of the X100 and has wanted one since the F and pre-ordered the VI, I ultimately had to cancel mine. I ended up buying a Nikon Zf and adapt manual focus lenses to it to get a slower and film like experience. However, I can still use native Z mount glass as a replacement for my DSLR.
The photographer philosopher strikes again and you are right, the X100 range is changing the culture of photography, it’s not the camera, it’s the experience. I am a Fuji shooter and if I could get one, I would. However, I feel just as enthusiastic about the Ricoh GRIII series. Cameras I would want to have with me all the time.
Got one a couple of weeks after launch. Came from a V, F, T and the OG. Most definitely the best one yet. Sold it 2 months ago, regretted it, ordered another one 3 days ago and it is being shipped to me today 🎉
This is a great video. I have only a small thing to point out-you can always change to electronic shutter (ES) or MS+ES to deal with scenes that are too bright when you’re taking stills. The ND filter really helps out in cases where you either want to use flash (another huge benefit of using this camera is the built-in flash) and require a slower shutter speed for sync, or you want to take panning video or stills and want to avoid rolling shutter.
My late dad shot Fuji pretty much exclusively. I didn’t really understand it until I got his X100 after he passed and figured it out. Holy cow. So yeah, needless to say… X100vi and a 50R. I’m stopping there.
The original X100 came out shortly after I picked up my Ricoh GR Digital III back in 2011. My Ricoh is still going strong, but since I recently started shooting actively again and am showing my work publicly for the first time ever, I decided it was time to upgrade to something with more than 10MP, especially since I shoot primarily street and primarily from the hip, so cropping is a regular part of my workflow. After going to a demo day for the X100VI earlier this year, I was tempted, but decided to keep shooting with my GR a while longer. That changed last Friday when I picked up an X-T50 - everything I love about the X100, but slightly smaller and more capable with interchangeable lenses.
Damn, I can't believe they haven't fixed the production issues for the X100 line. I remember when the X100V came out, 2 years in, they've sold out multiple times and supply was inconsistent, it was all over the place. Then, I was oblivious that there was a production issue for this camera and I was only looking up whichever version X100 is up to at the time, because I own a X100s and was just curious what's out there if I ever need to upgrade. But then, out of nowhere I ended up ordering the X100V! Right after the transaction online, I got an email from the shop, saying the camera is back-ordered, that it might take a week for it to be re-stocked. So I was like, that's fine, I can wait. A week later they got back to me saying the camera is ready to be picked up. Picked it up, played around with it, checked online just to see if I got a good deal from buying it and it was not available anywhere, even from the shop I got it from. Then I thought, that guy on the counter wasn't lying when he said "Mate, you're lucky, this camera you're getting was ordered for someone else but they ended up pulling out cos they've been waiting for months but we couldn't cancel the order from our supplier so, it's the lucky camera!" and he added, "you're not gonna see these in shelves for a while, that is if we're lucky to ever stock them again". I know I've already paid for it, but I swear, I thought he was selling the camera to me real hard. Haha! I'm glad I made that impulsive purchase. No regrets, love my X100V. 🧡
I took my best shots with my X100S which I sold couple of years ago. I still miss the camera and wish I had bought the X100VI yet. Will order one the next few days
Do you think it is a good choice for a first "professional camera and only camera". I really like it a lot but I am having doubts since it is not an interchangeable lens camera.
Just found your channel. Great take on the x100vi. Beautiful images and great presentation. I’m now a subscriber. I’ve got a v but still waiting for the vi. I absolutely love it. My first Fuji was an XPro3. I swear these cameras have sort of a mechanical “soul”. My wife, who is not into photography at all, immediately noticed a difference in my first XPro3 images..” What did you do? These are better.” Yep.
Only problem is I prefer 28mm lens equivalent to the 35. It might sound not much but it’s huge for street photography where layering is important. Hence I’m rocking x-t30 with 18mm lens as 28mm equivalent.
The wide conversion lens gets you to 28mm equivalent. Probably close to the xt30 with 18mm lens in size but you get to keep the leaf shutter and weather sealing.
@@jwanger142 I really don’t care for those two if I don’t get the focal length I prefer. Because it’s the latter that creates the look I’m after, not the former. This is purely from photographic perspective, but from gear perspective, yes, those two things are nice to have, just not essential for me. I still shoot in rain with my x-t30 because I keep it in my pocket and only take it out when I shoot. It’s fine and it doesn’t get wet.
Great video, but I feel like you were purposefully dumbing it down in some places resulting in some things that could be misleading - There’s an insinuation at the beginning that it’s confusing people go for the lower megapixels on the x100v compared to a modern smartphone - but I feel like it’s ignoring the sensor size differences entirely - You say you are shooting in auto but controlling the aperture. IMO aperture priority and auto are not the same thing and there’s plenty of pros that shoot in aperture priority. Fantastic SOOC shot examples in the video. I have an XT5 and I’m torn between making do with a pancake lens or saving/splurging for an x100vi
First of all, I want to thank you for this wonderful video. I’ve made my decision-the camera is exactly what I was looking for. The recipes you chose are fantastic. However, I have a small point of criticism: I would have loved it if you had displayed the corresponding recipes in the video, as I would like to recreate them myself.
This is valid criticism and totally welcomed. I was going to do this. But the reality is. I can’t remember which is which confidently, so I didn’t include it. Maybe what I could do is just include the recipes I used in this video, rather than trying to include it for each image. It was only 5 for the customs
I feel I’ve come to a realization that my passion in photography is capturing the moment. I love my Sony a7r3. But after some time it gets to the point where you get lazy to shoot most random things because you have that mindset where you need to transfer the photos and edit them and it takes time to edit the photos after picking the ones you like. That’s why I agree that this camera will help shape that part where you’ll regain that passion in photography.
Chasing the gear hoping it'll make the difference isn't a great idea. Try changing every jpeg setting you can, try manual fixed white balance, all that kinda stuff. Try a small 40mm like the f2.5.
My wife and I are going to India for a wedding, and adding on Japan & Europe before/after this December. As a professional sports photographer, I didn't want to take any massive bodies or lenses and will be picking this up before we leave. I'm really hoping it allows me to reconnect with daily shooting, and shooting for fun, exactly like what you said.
I have t he X100F (4 ) and found exactly the same thing as you. It goes everywhere with me , and I am perpetually surprised by how much I shoot with it, despite being a landscape photographer with a the high end kit. Its just fun, and can be used so discreetly.
I am one of those people who pre-ordered and is still waiting for my camera. Wanted to take it on my trip to Japan I took in September. Expected to receive it end of December. But when I do get it, oh boy, watch out!
some of photography today is about the experience, and some of it IS about the images the camera takes. Film has made a comeback for both of these reasons, much different from phone photography that a lot of people are used to, and produces much more unique images than phone + professional photography. X100 line bridges both of those desires. And like you said, for people who shoot for a living, it also allows you to not take it so "seriously".

Is it correct to say that shooting in RAW on this camera is missing the point of it? Should you just set it to JPEG and never look back? By comparison, something like the Leica Q3 is intended to achieve tactile sharp images, which would lead you to shooting in RAW. Whereas this camera seems more intended to get you stylistic, unique images.
I am a professional photographer that stopped shooting digitally entirely unless i was working because i was sick of carrying my pro gear with me. This camera has absolutely changed my relationship with my photography. It feels new and fun again. I even can use it as a secondary angle camera at work, it’s 40mp ffs
The original Fuji X100 was released 14 years ago in September 2010. Since then the basic formula has remained constant and updates have been iterative. I have owned some version of the X100 since 2012 and it remains a camera I cannot part with. The basic question that I cannot find an answer to is: why have the other camera manufacturers not released a "fun focussed" camera, instead of chasing specs?
Because it`s just subjective, my near perfect A7CII with GM 35 F1.4 lens is great fun and a perfect photography experience. I want perfection and that`s what i get.
@@brugj03 I am not disputing the near perfect comment. There are plenty of cameras that are technically superior to the X100V. None of them are on backlog. This suggests people are clamouring for the fun camera rather than technical perfection. It will not hurt Sony/Canon to release a fun camera in their already bloated line up.
@@changez77654 Being on backlog doesn`t make it more fun, it`s created. Sony is great fun with Zeiss, try that on your fuji with it`s terrible autofocus. Not me.

I just can't buy a camera with a fixed lens. I just switch to a smaller lens for every day carry, but for other events I like to leave my options open. Yes it does look nice, I think Fuji and Nikon are sexier than my Sony. 😁
Welcome to the world of the Fujfilm X100 series. Yes there are cameras with better image quality, yes there are better lenses, yes there are cameras with batter video, etc, whatever you want. But, this series is perfectly capable in a small package, light to take with you and you still get really nice pictures out of it. Sometimes all you want to do, is walk around and shoot some nice pictures right? No pressure!
Going through this again with my Sony gear. Selling it for either an X100vi or X-T5 + 18mm and 27mm combo. My A7Cr is a good tool, but not so much "fun" to use.
Love the casual shots. Reminds me of my parents old Kodak Instmatics. OK, I get having a camera you can hang around your neck and just shoot, with minimal effort. I also get the physical dials for teaching, and the small size.. I have thought about picking up a Sony a6700 with a small 24mm G lens for about $1700. It would not have the optical VF, it would be fewer megapixel, and I would have to make my own recipes. Otherwise I think it would be a similar experience. What am I missing?
I'm genuinely confused about your takeaway here. Are you saying this camera shoots images that are only as good as your smartphone, but it feels good in your hands? Point blank, aside from the feeling, what do you think about the image quality as opposed to what I can do with my S24 or iphone16?
Really nice video. Do you like the camera a lot so far? I thought about the Sony A7cii and geting a 40mm and also a 24mm so sony lens, but the camera you have is cheaper. For street is what Iam looking for. I have a canon r5, but it is kind of big and canon dont have a nice small lens maybe. So you like this camera best? Heard it has same lens as previous model so not sure if the sensor and lens resolves the megapixels effectively or not, how good the quality is? Weight looks nice for street compared to canon r5 with lens. Do you shoot jpg, heif or compressed raw? Is heif good or not supported much? Guess the fujifilm film simulations import into lightroom if shooting conpressed raw. Is it slow if shooting while using the simulation s? Do you shoot Velvia simulation, Portra 160 Portra 800, Lomo 400 or what do you like for street? Any things you dislike about the canera and would you buy it again if you didn’t have it?
Great video, I love my x100iv it gets me up off my a$$. I will also say it takes photos that would stand up to many “professional” cameras and images can be very professional.

@@AlexArmitage I do this type of photography with my Ricoh GR3x. When I show them to my friends, they ask the same question. Sometimes, I take the same shot using 3 or 4 different recipes, and I don't care to try to remember which ones are for each image.
what phones are you talking about taking better images? my phone at the same cost as the camera does surely not take images of the same quality lol. unless ofc MP is the only thing taken into concideration when talking about quality

My work camera is also a Canon R5, a true workhorse and extremely reliable... BUT I always associate it with work and my Fuji XE4 is my travel companion, my everyday-in my bag-camera and it's so much joy to shoot with it...

Hi Alex. For the exact reason - I am using Fujifilm for 3 years now. Different approach - I have a X-T50 with pancake 27mm f/2,8mm for the compact, X100V-like experience. No edits, SOOC - I am in love.
I have the x100s and the xT1 and I am a diehard Fuji fan girl. I love using the x100s. Most of my favorite images and memories are from using it.
Just got my x100vi - All those images look like something out of a movie, really cool man!
You really nailed the point of this camera, and were able to showcase some of the beautiful images that it can create. It’s not about the tech specs, but instead about the entire experience, this camera can deliver. I as well have a pro mirrorless set up, and the X100 is still my favorite grab and go set up. Subbed!
I had quite a similar experience when I picked up a used M11 recently. It makes photography enjoyable, playful and more challenging again. Especially if it‘s your day job.
But I would even go as far and say I care more about the end result than the experience - that‘s what kept me from buying a „fun“ camera for quite a while. But to my surprise I found that when you enjoy the experience more that also results in better pictures. You experiment more, try new things and want to shoot longer. Couldn‘t be happier with this purchase.
I was just talking about photos straight out of cameras, as jpegs, with no need for editing. This camera and the shots you've shared are exact examples of how simple photography can be without getting bogged down in the infinite details of lenses, bodies, etc. I am no pro, but I enjoy the photography that I do and could never spend hours editing photos without it being my real job. I really have enjoyed this video, I like the back to the roots feeling.
If you manage to enjoy doing photography just as a hobby, you could also just enjoy editing as a hobby. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to of course, but for me it's a pleasure by itself

I ordered my X100VI in February and have been waiting months for it. Actually kind of forgot about it and figured it would show up one day. And that it did. Out of the blue without even a shipping notification it showed up Friday evening and just using it on Saturday was just a joy. Can't wait to shoot more.
Now I just need to try a bunch of recipes to see what I like...there's too many! But that's a good thing.

If don’t need a hood, I highly recommend NiSi UV Filter w/ built in adapter ring. It’s the most low profile option - have both Fuji & Squarehood hoods & adapters but they increase footprint a bit too much. Find I carry it way more with low pro NiSi

The X100VI offers a great photography experience and I find it worth the price even if it is considered exaggerated or sold at a higher price than listed. a camera that brings great feeling that nothing else can replace.

Great video, thank you. You’ve expressed me feelings precisely. Having owned a lot of cameras as a professional photographer (now retired), like you, I go to the stage where I associated cameras with work, so did not want to take work with me, when I was not working.
I purchased the original Fuji X100, and experienced a real epiphany in my photography. The enjoyment, for the experience came back. It was rather ‘healing’. I’ve now owned every version of the X00 series and am waiting for my, long ago ordered, X100VI.

My wife and I just spent almost a month in Italy and London…she took no pics with her R5 and I shot under 300 on mine.. We used our X100vis all the time and had fun…did we come back with the images I had come from the other side of the earth to get?
No , but we had so much fun playing, using the recipes, shooting jpeg and being challenged with a single focal length….and realising , as you say, that very few “ perfect” images were hanging in galleries or printed in books…
We climbed on the plane slightly jaded and returned re energised and excited…
We found so many functions like multiple exposure and Toy camera by accident….as lifelong Canon shooters we had a learning curve..
The stabilisation is superb as is the AF…non spare battery, just a power bank….It was an amazing experience… and did I mention FUN…
On a side note , everyone commented on my wife’s amazing, cool camera (she has silver) and no one noticed my all Black x100vi and did not acknowledge me or engage about the camera😅😅.

I preordered mine on the night before release lol. Was back and forth on pulling the trigger on it for a week and realized I didn’t want to risk it when it came to Fuji’s production problem (even though they said they fixed them) I went ahead and did it. Then the problems with shipping happened. And I thought. I’m just gonna be another one of those X100V preorders that never gets filled for 4 years. Thought about cancelling my order but decided to stick it out. Then, 10 months later (last week), 😂a miracle happened and I got the email from B&H that my order was ready to ship! Now that I have the camera in my hand and have been using it nonstop for a few days. It was definitely worth the wait.

Or even cheaper, slap a 40mm 2.8 on a 6D. A small normal lens and a high end sensor.. it just works. Mess with the jpeg settings. I've used an x100 and while it's nice, I wouldn't pay the money for one. I even passed up an original one for only 200 bucks, twice, before people inflated it's price.
I see the X100 line as somewhat of the “iPad of cameras”. Yes, we have the phone in our pockets all the time. Yes, we have super fast computers on our desks and in our backpacks. But at the same time, the iPad is that “between” device - better that the phone and good enough for most things a computer can do - but it’s a different experience…. It’s not just a big phone. Same goes for the X100. In my case, I’ve got my iPhone and a Sony A1 camera. Do I bring my A1 all the time? No. Do I use my iPhone for PHOTOGRAPHY? Not really. The A1 is a BEAST, but compared to the X100, it’s more tedious in use - the straight out of camera jpeg quality and “vibe” from the X100 is that “between” device that makes people love it.
My x100v is my favorite camera to shoot with. It’s not the sharpest thing or the best in low light, but the experience is SO much better! And the film emulation is super inspiring. I often still use the raw file, but the jpegs give me a nice starting point. Though I love it when I nail it right in camera.

I had one on order and gave up after finding out it would be at least 8 months for delivery. Went with a Canon R5 instead. If it actually ever becomes available I’ll re-visit.
Very well said. As someone who loves the ethos of the X100 and has wanted one since the F and pre-ordered the VI, I ultimately had to cancel mine.
I ended up buying a Nikon Zf and adapt manual focus lenses to it to get a slower and film like experience. However, I can still use native Z mount glass as a replacement for my DSLR.
Makes total sense to me.
The photographer philosopher strikes again and you are right, the X100 range is changing the culture of photography, it’s not the camera, it’s the experience. I am a Fuji shooter and if I could get one, I would. However, I feel just as enthusiastic about the Ricoh GRIII series. Cameras I would want to have with me all the time.

Got one a couple of weeks after launch. Came from a V, F, T and the OG. Most definitely the best one yet. Sold it 2 months ago, regretted it, ordered another one 3 days ago and it is being shipped to me today 🎉

This is a great video. I have only a small thing to point out-you can always change to electronic shutter (ES) or MS+ES to deal with scenes that are too bright when you’re taking stills. The ND filter really helps out in cases where you either want to use flash (another huge benefit of using this camera is the built-in flash) and require a slower shutter speed for sync, or you want to take panning video or stills and want to avoid rolling shutter.
Didn’t even think about the ES having a much her speed! Good tip!

My late dad shot Fuji pretty much exclusively. I didn’t really understand it until I got his X100 after he passed and figured it out. Holy cow.
So yeah, needless to say… X100vi and a 50R. I’m stopping there.
The original X100 came out shortly after I picked up my Ricoh GR Digital III back in 2011. My Ricoh is still going strong, but since I recently started shooting actively again and am showing my work publicly for the first time ever, I decided it was time to upgrade to something with more than 10MP, especially since I shoot primarily street and primarily from the hip, so cropping is a regular part of my workflow. After going to a demo day for the X100VI earlier this year, I was tempted, but decided to keep shooting with my GR a while longer. That changed last Friday when I picked up an X-T50 - everything I love about the X100, but slightly smaller and more capable with interchangeable lenses.
Damn, I can't believe they haven't fixed the production issues for the X100 line. I remember when the X100V came out, 2 years in, they've sold out multiple times and supply was inconsistent, it was all over the place. Then, I was oblivious that there was a production issue for this camera and I was only looking up whichever version X100 is up to at the time, because I own a X100s and was just curious what's out there if I ever need to upgrade.
But then, out of nowhere I ended up ordering the X100V! Right after the transaction online, I got an email from the shop, saying the camera is back-ordered, that it might take a week for it to be re-stocked. So I was like, that's fine, I can wait. A week later they got back to me saying the camera is ready to be picked up. Picked it up, played around with it, checked online just to see if I got a good deal from buying it and it was not available anywhere, even from the shop I got it from. Then I thought, that guy on the counter wasn't lying when he said "Mate, you're lucky, this camera you're getting was ordered for someone else but they ended up pulling out cos they've been waiting for months but we couldn't cancel the order from our supplier so, it's the lucky camera!" and he added, "you're not gonna see these in shelves for a while, that is if we're lucky to ever stock them again". I know I've already paid for it, but I swear, I thought he was selling the camera to me real hard. Haha!
I'm glad I made that impulsive purchase. No regrets, love my X100V. 🧡

Only problem is I prefer 28mm lens equivalent to the 35. It might sound not much but it’s huge for street photography where layering is important. Hence I’m rocking x-t30 with 18mm lens as 28mm equivalent.

The wide conversion lens gets you to 28mm equivalent. Probably close to the xt30 with 18mm lens in size but you get to keep the leaf shutter and weather sealing.
@@jwanger142 I really don’t care for those two if I don’t get the focal length I prefer. Because it’s the latter that creates the look I’m after, not the former. This is purely from photographic perspective, but from gear perspective, yes, those two things are nice to have, just not essential for me. I still shoot in rain with my x-t30 because I keep it in my pocket and only take it out when I shoot. It’s fine and it doesn’t get wet.
I just put on the cheap and light wcl100ii wife converter that takes you to 28.5mm equivalent.

Great video, but I feel like you were purposefully dumbing it down in some places resulting in some things that could be misleading
- There’s an insinuation at the beginning that it’s confusing people go for the lower megapixels on the x100v compared to a modern smartphone - but I feel like it’s ignoring the sensor size differences entirely
- You say you are shooting in auto but controlling the aperture. IMO aperture priority and auto are not the same thing and there’s plenty of pros that shoot in aperture priority.
Fantastic SOOC shot examples in the video. I have an XT5 and I’m torn between making do with a pancake lens or saving/splurging for an x100vi
First of all, I want to thank you for this wonderful video. I’ve made my decision-the camera is exactly what I was looking for. The recipes you chose are fantastic. However, I have a small point of criticism: I would have loved it if you had displayed the corresponding recipes in the video, as I would like to recreate them myself.
This is valid criticism and totally welcomed. I was going to do this. But the reality is. I can’t remember which is which confidently, so I didn’t include it. Maybe what I could do is just include the recipes I used in this video, rather than trying to include it for each image. It was only 5 for the customs

I feel I’ve come to a realization that my passion in photography is capturing the moment. I love my Sony a7r3. But after some time it gets to the point where you get lazy to shoot most random things because you have that mindset where you need to transfer the photos and edit them and it takes time to edit the photos after picking the ones you like. That’s why I agree that this camera will help shape that part where you’ll regain that passion in photography.
Chasing the gear hoping it'll make the difference isn't a great idea. Try changing every jpeg setting you can, try manual fixed white balance, all that kinda stuff. Try a small 40mm like the f2.5.
My wife and I are going to India for a wedding, and adding on Japan & Europe before/after this December. As a professional sports photographer, I didn't want to take any massive bodies or lenses and will be picking this up before we leave. I'm really hoping it allows me to reconnect with daily shooting, and shooting for fun, exactly like what you said.

I have t he X100F (4 ) and found exactly the same thing as you. It goes everywhere with me , and I am perpetually surprised by how much I shoot with it, despite being a landscape photographer with a the high end kit. Its just fun, and can be used so discreetly.

some of photography today is about the experience, and some of it IS about the images the camera takes. Film has made a comeback for both of these reasons, much different from phone photography that a lot of people are used to, and produces much more unique images than phone + professional photography. X100 line bridges both of those desires. And like you said, for people who shoot for a living, it also allows you to not take it so "seriously".

Is it correct to say that shooting in RAW on this camera is missing the point of it? Should you just set it to JPEG and never look back? By comparison, something like the Leica Q3 is intended to achieve tactile sharp images, which would lead you to shooting in RAW. Whereas this camera seems more intended to get you stylistic, unique images.

I get the same feeling using my iPhone. Leave the Sony mirrorless at home along with the lenses. I’ve taken some of my favorites with it.
I am a professional photographer that stopped shooting digitally entirely unless i was working because i was sick of carrying my pro gear with me. This camera has absolutely changed my relationship with my photography. It feels new and fun again. I even can use it as a secondary angle camera at work, it’s 40mp ffs
The original Fuji X100 was released 14 years ago in September 2010. Since then the basic formula has remained constant and updates have been iterative. I have owned some version of the X100 since 2012 and it remains a camera I cannot part with. The basic question that I cannot find an answer to is: why have the other camera manufacturers not released a "fun focussed" camera, instead of chasing specs?
Because it`s just subjective, my near perfect A7CII with GM 35 F1.4 lens is great fun and a perfect photography experience.
I want perfection and that`s what i get.
@@brugj03 I am not disputing the near perfect comment. There are plenty of cameras that are technically superior to the X100V. None of them are on backlog. This suggests people are clamouring for the fun camera rather than technical perfection. It will not hurt Sony/Canon to release a fun camera in their already bloated line up.

Sony is great fun with Zeiss, try that on your fuji with it`s terrible autofocus.

I just can't buy a camera with a fixed lens. I just switch to a smaller lens for every day carry, but for other events I like to leave my options open. Yes it does look nice, I think Fuji and Nikon are sexier than my Sony. 😁

Welcome to the world of the Fujfilm X100 series.
Yes there are cameras with better image quality, yes there are better lenses, yes there are cameras with batter video, etc, whatever you want.
But, this series is perfectly capable in a small package, light to take with you and you still get really nice pictures out of it.
Sometimes all you want to do, is walk around and shoot some nice pictures right? No pressure!

Going through this again with my Sony gear. Selling it for either an X100vi or X-T5 + 18mm and 27mm combo. My A7Cr is a good tool, but not so much "fun" to use.
Love the casual shots. Reminds me of my parents old Kodak Instmatics. OK, I get having a camera you can hang around your neck and just shoot, with minimal effort. I also get the physical dials for teaching, and the small size.. I have thought about picking up a Sony a6700 with a small 24mm G lens for about $1700. It would not have the optical VF, it would be fewer megapixel, and I would have to make my own recipes. Otherwise I think it would be a similar experience. What am I missing?
It might be similar! I can't comment. If you can get those looks directly out of the camera then by all means it's a great option.

For street is what Iam looking for. I have a canon r5, but it is kind of big and canon dont have a nice small lens maybe. So you like this camera best? Heard it has same lens as previous model so not sure if the sensor and lens resolves the megapixels effectively or not, how good the quality is? Weight looks nice for street compared to canon r5 with lens. Do you shoot jpg, heif or compressed raw? Is heif good or not supported much? Guess the fujifilm film simulations import into lightroom if shooting conpressed raw. Is it slow if shooting while using the simulation s? Do you shoot Velvia simulation, Portra 160
Portra 800, Lomo 400 or what do you like for street? Any things you dislike about the canera and would you buy it again if you didn’t have it?

@@AlexArmitage I do this type of photography with my Ricoh GR3x. When I show them to my friends, they ask the same question. Sometimes, I take the same shot using 3 or 4 different recipes, and I don't care to try to remember which ones are for each image.
