Seems you were right! If you look at the leaderboard at the end, you can see 6th place, kelvin kiptum who split off the main 4 a bit over 2/3 distance, he now holds the marathon record by a solid margin, first sub 2:01 if I recall correctly.
@@ilect1690 yeah, a 66 second 400m is pretty damn good for any average person who doesn't train it, so to think that this guy kept that pace for the equivalent of 52 laps is nuts
Improvements in shoe technology might be controversial, but I'm honestly excited to see what these runners can do in this new era. World records are being obliterated and we're seeing things that we never thought were possible just a few years ago. I mean, Kiplimo crushing the previous world record by 25 seconds at age 20 is just crazy (and he didn't even win the race!). I believe this is great for the fans and I can't wait to witness a sub 2h marathon.
4 runners at sub-58 is just unreal.. congratulations to all of them! when looking at the list of top-contestants it shows how the high altitude training and determination of the Kenyans pays off.. very well deserved!
This what should happen all the time actually! African runners have been over racing to make money, if they could run 2 big races in year like americans tend to do, you would see amazing stuff! I know runners who ran 12-15 races a year! Do you really think they can perform a their best? Yes there is doping in some runners like in any other sport, but still don't think that all that you are seeing is impossible!
Here’s why: everybody was peaking for 2020 because of the olympics. But now, instead of going to the olympics and doing championship style racing in order to win a medal, they get to race for time with way less pressure, but still in peak fitness.
Not surprising because the lack of a proper season essentially turns these “races” into time trials, which tend to lead to better times than outright racing.
They were peaking for 2020 Olympics and fresh from not racing all year. It may be a few years before we see this again. If they put a lot of $ incentive on breaking a WR that would help
Kandie makes somewhat sense to break the record. Kiplimo also makes sense to break the record. But Kipruto for his first Half Marathon to go under the previous WR is insane!!!!
Come on now! A good 10k guy will always run well for half marathon! It's a no brainer...Rhonex to me is better runner than Kamworor and he is the 10k world record holder (26:24)...27:25 pace is not that hard for him! It makes perfectly sense for him to run under 58.
@@patpatson9201 I respect your opinion and you do make good points. Rhonex is also one of the best athletes. The thing is that a 10k on the roads and a half marathon are completely different events that require completely different training to run. From my experience in the half, around the 18k most people who have never ran the distance would want to quit because they have never handled the sheer length of the distance.
